Playing Protector Style
I love when this happens. What gets me though are the little differences when I play my alts on another server. When they run Kahn they'll fight invincible reichsman until the mission ends. On mothership raids they'll take out the pylons in the reverse order from how we do it on protector. For BAF they'll drag NS and Siege to the reinforcement spawn point every time, whether they're going for the badge or not. It really does feel like I'm playing in the bizzaro universe sometimes.
I've had that happen over on Champion. I didn't find other players there, I had people I played with comment on my playstyle. I actually talked to other players during TFs and made sure everyone knew of potential pitfalls. Then they mentioned that they didn't reconize my @Global. I said that am usually on Protector and they were like, "Oh, that explains your teaming." Seriously when they heard I was from Protector, they were unsurprised I was a cool teammate. That's good to hear.
In defense of some other servers, I've always had a good time on Victory as well. They've got a Protector feel to them.
I kinda like Triumph as well. Despite the fact that Sentai Sage plays there.
>_>
<_<
I guess I live on the quiet servers for a lot of these same reasons.
Just my opinion you understand, but the few times I've played on the "big" servers I've had to deal with a whole different mentality. There is a tendancy to "min/maxing", "building the correct team", "build discrimination", and all of those things that make me cringe.
Don't get me wrong, I have found some great players on every server, but I tend to find more here in the virtual suburbs. As long as that doesn't change, I'll stay out here in the wilds.

I love my Protector friends, but I've taken to playing on other servers lately because there's simply more people there.
And I readily admit while I might not be a min/maxer, I appreciate the sentiment. Some people want to get in, get it done, get out. That's fun for them, and they pay their 15 the same way I do. When I have limited time to play, that's what I like. Plus, I like the challenge of beating a time.
But my friends are the best. It doesn't matter what they're playing because they're so good that they could play an unslotted mind/forcefield troller and STILL rock the house on it.
I haven't had much need to play on other servers, lately.
I've got a bunch of characters stored on Virtue and have had good experiences there. I've also had good experiences in Champion and Triumph, but there's a certain "quiet" to those servers that's a little worrying. It feels lonely there, like I'm not really a part of the proceedings unless I have some sort of group of friends to team with, whereas I can usually have random conversations and polite team invites here without even participating in a channel.
Folks are willing to take a chance here, and usually have a pretty high tolerance for their fellow players for mistakes. Other server populations usually don't seem too eager to take that gamble, for whatever reason.

Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.
There are other servers?! O.O
WHATCHOOTALKINBOUTKYO?!?!?
While I admit to playing on other servers (Tanker Tuesday rotates servers, I inherited a Fire/Rad group on Freedom, etc), Protector is still "Home".
When I am on other servers....it seems that most times I find someone who I play well with ......that has teaming mentality.....are generally kind and thoughtful......are good with just talking and joking........after talking for a bit.....I find out that they call Protector their home server. Just wondering if other people have had the same experience as me. |
Protector used to represent getting things done. Accomplishing things that were impressive given the size of the server population. Competing with Freedom in cross server events. The phrase "lol Protector" circulated because people from this little tiny server were kicking *** and taking names. That was when being from Protector meant something.
I know a ton of people from Protector over on Freedom. They don't consider Protector their home, just where they started out. Protector has polite, knowledgeable players that team well--just like every other server. Beyond that the only thing distinctive about the server is the fiction on the forums.

I feel like virtue is a good choice, especially on incarnate trials everyone always seems to know where they need to be and what to do. I've actually had some pretty horrible experiences on Protector in that sense.
I thought this was more of our style of play.
I like the quiet servers, for the most part people on these servers seem to get along and team together well, Every server has its sour apples. I also like know a lot of people online and know thier play style. I only play on Protector now i tried a few others but they seem more like 10yr olds and like to harrass and provoke others. I really like it here and dont see me moving anytime soon. So thank you guys for the great "family" like players
No. And I don't consider what you're describing to be "Protector Style." It's more like the MMO equivalent of Cheers-"the little server where everybody knows your name."

Maybe you expected everyone to feel the same way you do?

I have found that all servers are definitely not the same. Sure there are nice people on each one....but certain servers have their own "feel" to them.
I do not know what a hugglepounce is either.
Not a hugglepounce what ever that is, but dang, man. |

Nope. I was asking if others have experienced what I have. Certainly not expecting everyone at all. That being said. Your post still sounds bitter.....just saying. Does it sound bitter? I dunno--how is that relevant?

Personally, in my 7 years playing, I've been on Protector since I logged in but also have tried other servers.
Some I'm still present on, others I've crossed out. It all depends on whether or not the server caters to your personal play style and personality, I think.
And I don't want to sound callous (but it will probably come out like that), but it's always been hard for me to empathize with players who would complain that Protector's community was too small, or not as inclusive when it comes to activity they can partake in, and then strike off to another server instead of finding solutions.
I mean, I understand those who want to have better opportunities for teaming and engaging in the activities they enjoy (say, RPing or PVP), but to then take the time to come back on the Protector boards to complain about Protector's shortcomings is much less comprehensible.
To me, that's like getting into a baseball game, deciding it's not working out for you, and leaving with the equipment you had shared with the rest. Then, while playing on the next field over, coming back to the first game explaining you've left because of a lack of players and equipment. A circular argument, or vicious circle of sorts. The logic escapes me.
Anyhow, I'm not pointing fingers or placing blame. that's just the way things have evolved on Protector in the last years. And yet when I log in, I have to turn teams and people down because the offers are coming in unsolicited. The activity may not be the same as 5 years ago, but it's picked up since Going Rogue came along and I predict COH Freedom will also bring in more players.
Protector has done great things, and is still doing so. Some of our ideas have impacted other servers and continue to do so. Is it better than other servers?
I doubt it. It's just different, and some love it while others don't. Some find a spot in it easily and quickly, others can't seem to ever fit in. Players change, moods change, expectations change. Just the way it is I guess.
I just really dig Protector's flavor, even when - as SuperFlu said - I occasionally find it on other servers.

Yikes. You sound so callous Stalemate. j/k
Ok I didn't want to "start something". I was just asking if anyone has had the same experience as I. I suppose the "Protector WAS great, now it's plain vanilla" seemed like a shot at the server and took me back some. Perhaps I was reading it wrong.

Why? Simply because I was surfing the forums and read that post and had an opinion on it. Don't straw man me over my lack of unconditional fervor for Protector.

Protector has always been my home but I take "vacation" on mostly Virtue often nowadays.
