Poison for Controllers and Corruptors

This set has been requested for proliferation for a great while and we thought now would be a great time to release it. This set is very much like the Mastermind version, however Noxious Gas (a pet targeted AoE debuff power) was replaced by Venomous Gas. This new power is a PBAoE toggle that significantly weakens enemies in close proximity to the user.
Psychic Blast is supposed to be the Defender version, which is generally regarded as superior to the Blaster version. In addition, the /Poison set is getting some buffs; the Heal will be stronger, Weaken and Envenom are getting half strength "splash" AoEs, and the /Poison version of Poison Trap will use a Hold instead of a Sleep. Looks like I'll be making some new Corruptors in Issue 21...

Hoping Corr Psy Blast at least has Aim somewhere in there.
Pretty sure the Defender version lacks that.

The new Poison Trap looks pretty interesting, will have to test with IO shenanigans to be sure...

Correct; they took out Psychic Scream in the Blaster version to fit it in though.

I'm pretty excited about the idea of making a Psychic Blast/Kinetics corrupter. I have no idea of whether that combination will work, but kinetics + barely resisted damage can't be bad.

I also might have to make some kind of ranged ninja corrupter with poison now.

I am very, very excited about getting /Poison. I have always loved that powerset but have never really enjoyed playing a Mastermind. Just not the right AT for me.

I can't wait, it sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. I'm trying to plan a new Fire/Poison Corr (probably, may go with Ice) and a new War Mace scrapper.

Point of contention, "barely resisted" isn't exactly correct. It may or may not be uncommonly resisted, but when it is it is generally HEAVILY so.

I would much rather have psi dart and aim. Another ****** 1.67 animation and a narrow low damage cone sucks.

/Poison should be interesting, although Cold Domination and Radiation set a very high bar for debuff specialist.

They are going to improve /Poison with a little slash effects in weaken and envenom at least.

I think /Poison would be a fun "theme" set. Too bad they haven't designed Poison Blast to go with it. :P


What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

True enough, but I am working on the costume design for my rad/poison already.

Psychic Scream is not an especially wide cone at 30 degrees, but it has a range of 60 which is pretty extraordinary for a cone attack. The damage is decent and the debuff awesome (though it won't be as good as defenders get: -62.5% recharge for 10 seconds). Psychic Scream has better damage than Fistful of Arrows, Buckshot, Tenebrous Tentacles, Empty Clips, Energy Torrent, and Howl. Nightfall does slightly better damage, but has a narrower cone. Electron Haze and Frost Breath do more damage, but to a smaller area and for more endurance and longer recharge (and Electron Haze has KB). I'll give you that Flamethrower outclasses the rest of the cones, though.

Also, Psychic Scream is important if you're interested in AoE damage in a blast set. Psionic Tornado is a lot of fun, but not as good an attack as Psychic Scream. The only other AoE in the set, Psychic Wail, is a nuke with all that entails.

My frustration with Psychic Blast on blasters is due to the lack of AoE potential.

Defender Psi Blast is also longer base range than Blaster. If you then add Cardiac Alpha, you can hit from 120ft away without any additional slotting, 72 ft on the cone. You also get an immobilize built right into the blast set, which is pretty nice for a few primaries.

Psi-nado is a slowish cast, but extremely effective control for an AoE blast power.

IMO this is one of more exciting prolifs this round.

4 single target blasts: 1 high chance sleep, 1 high chance immob and 1 with fairly reliable knockback.
2 ranged AoEs: 1 long cone, 1 targeted with a 20' radius and decent chance for knockup; both do significant -recharge (-80% between them).
1 guaranteed stun.
1 snipe.
1 nuke.

With the long cast times (2.67/2.37s) on the AoEs and the DoT nature of psinado you wouldn't win any awards for spike damage even with aim. You are however getting a very nice mix of damage, control and mitigation.

My only concern is that as a primary you will be forced to take either both the initial blasts or the snipe.

The only thing they need to rename is Poison Trap under /poison.

Poison Trap under /Trap and Poison Trap under /Poison are different. Similar but different.

I can count the number of psi primary blasters I have teamed with in 2011 on one finger. This finger, in fact. It's the same finger that PvP nerf herders gave blasters when psi got ported to us.
