Brutes and Stealth.

I have a SS/WP Brute with Stealth + a Stealth IO in CJ for ease of mission completion, and even though those two combined should be enough to be undetected by enemies, sometimes mobs will still manage to see me (mobs like Carnival, that I don't recall have any perception buffs). RttC is not turned on (I always turn it off when I turn on Stealth).

Is something going on that I'm forgetting? I vaguely recall that maybe Fury is the issue? Does the check for Fury pulse and somehow aggro enemies, or is it something else and fury isn't an issue for this?

My only other thought is that it might be the Rage crash (and/or activation) that causes stealth to suppress, but I thought I recalled it happening even when that wasn't the case.

Anyone know anything about this?

I have noticed an unusual amount of critters seeing through stealth too. I use Super Speed and a proc in Sprint. Combat Jumping is better slotted with a LOTG. The Stealth Power isn't needed if you have Super Speed and Hasten, unless you use Stealth for the defense bonus.

Well, it is possible that you have stealth suppressed from attacking something earlier in the mission. That's all i can think of. But there are quite a few things that see thru stealth, like drones, it is likely carnies are one of them.

The part of Fury that checks to see whether mobs are Minons, LT's or AV's to decide how much Fury bonus is applied is what does it.

That part of Fury is autohit, 10ft sphere on a 10 second pulse that is set to notify all mobs hit by it.

Thats why some missions you can Super speed/stealth proc it all the way to the end and not get seen period and other times it can seem that 1/4 spawns see you. Just bad luck with the pulse of that Fury check.

I think that using Invis takes care of this since it puts you into the only effecting self status. I have turned on invis with Blazing Aura running and left to make the baby a bottle without having anything agro onto me even with patrols wandering right in front of me

Did not know that. Thanks.

plus, if you stray too close to an enemy, you can sometimes be spotted as well.

This is not accurate. Obtaining enough stealth bonus (usually a stealth power and a stealth proc) can make it so no critters (minion up to boss) can see you without a perception buff. The OP was using enough stealth to not be noticed, but apparently Fury is what caused mobs to be notified of the OP's presence. My Defender and Scrapper have absolutely no issues standing in the middle of a spawn of critters, as long as none of them have perception buffs.

The problem with Fury notifying mobs is the reason I try to fit Invisibility into my Brute builds when I can.

Thanks, Joe! I know I've heard about this before, but it seems hard to find out and double-check anywhere since it's such a non-issue for most Brutes. Kind of strange that it's set to do that kind of thing, but I don't imagine most brutes minding.

Best bet seems to try and go around or above mobs instead of through them if I can, in that case. Not enough power choices left in my build for Invisibility and Stealth, but I'll keep it in mind for future builds if I really want to avoid that.

I think it may vary depending on the mob types. That's why I included qualifiers.

Wha? Why?

What ever happened to Brute Stealth ... you know, run to the glowy ignoring mobs, kill anything that dared follow you that far, and leave?

Heck, my shielder stealths missions, stealth by softcap. turn off aao and haul taters, anything dumb enough to follow gets a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTpQOZcNASw

Still, the thing about fury is interesting on its own.

There is no variation between enemy groups. Certain enemies have perception buffs which see through stealth. Most enemy groups have between 0 or 1 critter type that you will find with a perception buff. The rest of the critters only follow normal LT and boss modifiers. A couple enemy groups have perception buffs on every one of them, like Rularuu and Praetorian Resistance.

How does this work with Energy Aura's Energy Cloak?

Energy cloak doesn't suppress, ever. However, it's not enough by itself to stop an enemy at melee range from seeing you, just ranged enemies. So unless you're augmenting it with Super Speed or Stealth IOs, it won't matter.

I suspect that it wouldn't prevent Fury from drawing attention though.
