Protector is scheduled to be invaded tonight. I plan on being there; hope to see plenty of y'all too. I'll be on as Gaslight, ready to burn those Praetorians off our dimension. See you then.

I'm debating on whether or not to bust out Hyperstrike or work one of my lowbies up.

I'll still be at work.

Well, I'm done with Anniversary events if this kind of thing is any indicator.

When powers with a 1 second activation time and a 4 second recharge take 3-5 seconds to activate and 20-30 to recharge, it goes from being "annoying" to being "not fun in any sense of the word" and not worth the time.

If the game client can't be streamlined for this sort of thing any better there's no reason to have the events in the future.

I got crashed out five times and that was my limit.

As a friend said: Good idea, incorrect hardware for the implementation.

yeah I couldn't stay connected either

It was ok at first but the power activation lag got annoying.

There was lag, there were crashes, there was some fun.

Thanks to the Dev(s)/Admin(s)/GM(s)

I did not have fun at at this event, though I do thank the devs for putting it on.

The lag was dreadful, and after I mapserved for the third time in 5 minutes, I logged off.

I suggest something less "apocalyptic" for next time.

After being a Rikti monkey for five minutes, and unable to activate any powers for about ten minutes after that, I hopped from PI to Atlas to Steel to see if the lag was anywhere better anywhere else...nope.

I came back right at the end of things just in time to see Emperor Cole in PI, and I'm kinda glad I didn't stay for the whole frustratingly laggy experience.

City of Heroes taught me that when the world is burning, you don't just stand by and watch, you grab a fire extinguisher and do whatever you can to stop it-even if it's not much at all. Sign the petition to keep City of Heroes alive HERE.

Wow, from the sound of it I think I'm glad I was at work and couldn't participate.

Agreed sounds like it was unfun! One wonders how the freedum invasion will be with everyone trying to get on for the badge.

Yeah, the lag was unfun - I bounced around a bit from zone to zone and found Atlas to be relatively unlaggy - so I stayed there for a bit. Then we got invaded by about 10 Synapse... all with a power suppressor, so it got unfun really fast. Little lag spike, power suppressor, surprise, you're dead. Rinse and repeat a few times til you realize it's not fun anymore.

The devs cant really do anything about the lag, but I have a suggestion for next time: Could you please, please not use the admin line for communication? Would it be possible to create an Event line that broadcasts in whatever zone you're in, instead of going through every single tab? Or make Admin removable from the chat tabs?

When I wasn't lagging, it was a lot of fun. When it was lagging.... not so much But I had a lot of fun when I was able to! Thanks!

I'm just going to log on and park in a mission.

But if 50 people fighting in a zone is going to cause the zone to lag all to hell, this "experiment" in how many people they can shovel onto a single server is a relatively useless data point.

While I agree the lag made fighting the GMs (Who used cheatyface refill health powers, no less) a pain, for me, the bantering with the "Praetorians" was the highlight of the invasion.

For example:

Marauder thinks he's Kanye
Bobcat comes to stalk Neuron
2.0 Runs on Mac
Emperor Cole is apparently a blaster (Which actually explains the issues he had with beating Praetorian Hami)
(And the cake was a lie)
It may or may not have all been a Nemesis Plot
2.0 flys, then finds out what "Furry" means

And my favorite:
Z's true form

Point of interest: There are many zones that have caps significantly higher than 50 players. If my memory serves me correctly, there are only three zones that cap at 50: The Hive, The Abyss, and The RWZ.

Logged in with a hero.
Tackled Steel Canyon invasion for 1/2 hour of lagged combat.
Game crashes.
Pulled up one villain.
Tackled Cap Au Diable invasion for 1/2 hour of lagged combat.
Game crashes.
Pulled up another hero.
Shuttled him to Atlas.
While zoning into Atlas, computer hard crashes.

Good times.

My hat is off to the Community Relations Team and the event coordiantors for doing all they could to conduct the event as best they can.

to the technical capabilities of the server to handle said invasion, lag, and volume.

Sidenote:

If the devs/'powers-that-be' intend to continue this path of Praetorian Invasions, as a suggestion to them, I'd hope they'd reconfigure the Praetorian Invasions to be JUST like a zone-based Rikti attack/Zombie Apocalypse. Just set it up so that whenever 'x' SF/TF is completed in-game (i.e., such as completion of Tin Mage II TF or the such), it triggers a Praetorian Invasion that lasts relatively same length as Ritki/Zombie zone invasions. Toss in some 'defeat x amount' badges for Olympian Guards, IDFs, War Walkers, and maybe an equivocal "I survived the Praetorian Invasion" badge, etc. Throw in a random Praetorian Guard Praetor-type AV/GM to pop up after 5 minutes after the zone invasion starts. when the AV is taken down/out, the event ends. This sure as hellz won't make zone lagfest any better during said invasion, but at least it'll make it more in sync with how the rest of zone invasions are done, and will add a different zone-invasion aspect/option to have fun with. This is, after all, just a suggestion, though. I'm sure some players have had enough of zone invasions. This may be one too many as well. I'd still like to see it changed to this though.

I had fun, and had some disappointments.

I diliberately ran a League to test if that made things worse. Either it doesn't, or everything was so bad, dropping from the League made no difference. No matter, the lag was unreasonable, to me.

While I had some fun doing some Dev chat, the invaders popping up on the Admin channel kind of broke metaphor. Same with some of the silly. I don't know, I mean since shooting things was kind of pointless in the lag and the auto-healing GMs, the chatter was the primary entertainment, but well, I logged in to play CoH, not chat with some folks.

I feel that dimensional invaders should not shout at me on the 4th wall breaking admin line, they boom over some in-game channel. I know, more code to put this in place, but hey, I kinda want the 4th wall - I want to pretend I'm playing a game where my character fights off an invasion; not that I'm place-holding to test the capacity of the server hardware.

Devs on Admin making jokes are fun, sure, but by the end, I wasn't taking on a challenging invasion with my cool character that I have spent hours (possibly days) playing and tweaking to look and play great in this cool game I pay money for every month; I was in a brightly colored chat room.

I'm very glad I did it, I just have disappointments.

I got used to the lag.

I had a pretty good time. I don't RP banter much, but when I do, I mistakenly yell out that Marauder is from the BAF like a jack***.
