Let people try on booster pack clothes at the tailor/character creation screen

I think they'd sell more booster packs if let people try on the new clothes they can get. The data is already on people's computers, so there wouldn't have to be a download or anything, and if people can see how good their character looks in some clothing then they'd be more likely to pay for it. Basically I think the same reason that stores IRL have dressing rooms applies to CoH.

Sometimes you need to try options to know if its worth it.
Also, they should update Icon tailor mannequins with each costume set of the packs.
Cyborg, Mad scientis, Witch, Ninja warrior...and so on.
Visual marketing, its called.

Not sure if that's a great idea. They did something similar by putting animal-themed NPCs in Pocket D when the booster came out, but I don't think we should increase the graphical load in an area where people will be swapping between costumes/auras/capes/etc. with regularity.

The current mannequin costumes are older than straight walking.
I want a static mannequin, but with newer costume sets, to promote different booster packs.
I think is a great idea.
I never get why some players want to be stuck in the past. The game needs to keep updating things to have a fresh feeling.
If I were in the art team...

The point is that most of the booster pack costumes have a higher graphical cost than generic pieces, especially the ones that include cape elements. When the choice is between keeping something old or adding potential lag to Icon, I'll stick with the status quo, yes. I'm not sure why that pegs me as being "stuck in the past" though.

Game needs to keep updating visually.
Lag and performace are things the devs need to take care of.

Furthermore, would a few extra pseudo-characters on the screen really contribute to the lag that much?

You no if you really want to try the one of the booster pack outfit out, go on the create a AE NPC Screen at The AE Building and also get Booster Pack at AE unlock with Tickets. There for you can up load one of you main costume to AE and edit it and mess around with the AE Costumes version of the booster Pack. Everytime a new Booster Pack comes out it show up on the AE Custom Creation screen.

I'm afraid it'd be a two-way street as well though.

Sure, some would be more likely to purchase a booster when they see the pieces for themselves.

However, the reverse would also be true. I for one regretted buying the Mutant Pack only to discover my video card didn't want to make the pieces 'glow' which is the only reason I bought said booster. If I'd had the option of seeing that before hand I wouldn't have given them that cash...

However, it's really a moot point as Green pointed out!

yes.. i think it is a great idea to update the look of ICON.

Would it be possible to rotate the mannequins look using the advertisement system?

BUT:

What would happen when someone clicks the next button to accept the costume? Would they just get a message informing them that "1 or more costume pieces need to be purchased?" Would it tell them which pieces and what packs they came from? Would there be any way for new players who don't know which pieces are pack items to know before hand that they can't use them?

I see a lot of uninformed players getting annoyed when they keep trying to make costumes the game won't allow. Placing costume packs on the store dummies sounds better to me. They could just place a sign next to each one explaining what pack they come with.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

Again, particularly if cape elements were involved, yes. A post from Back Alley Brawler a while back spelled out that capes are the most graphically expensive costume piece and therefore bog the game down even worse when multiple capes are rendered in an area, which are quite likely to be present in Icon. This is also why player characters are not allowed to wear more than one cape element at a time. I believe reflective costume pieces are more expensive than normal as well, but still less than capes.

Adding such pieces to mannequins that nobody pays attention to in the first place for the sake of advertising or prettying things up at the expense of performance is foolish.

Put non bought costume pieces in a completely separate and obvious tab. Name it something like 'Preview, must purchase X Booster to use'. Would some people still get confused? Probably. But I think the number would be low enough that you could just ignore them.
