So far we've had an order from New Zealand and one from Singapore--I imagine the UK will work.

Those are great!
I'm curious (and somewhat late to ask this, I know), but what does Z's actual form look like? So far I've just seen you possess other NPC's.

For example:

This isn't detailed enough to make a good doll!

Haha, I google searched Zwill and got that Rularuu picture on page 9.

Darn. I should have taken a screenshot when we saw you in Pocket D over the July 4th weekend.
He was wearing red, white and blue.

Just an update on the glowing eyes project: When it's all done, the doll with the circuit chip doodad in it will have glowing eyes for around 10-15 seconds after being squeezed. This is very, very awesome.

And here you have some surgery being performed by our very own Dr. Aeon:

Haha. Um. So yeah, if anyone is interested in a glowing eye doll, please send me a PM. These are custom jobs, so if you, say, want the eyes to glow only so long as you're squeezing it, for example, that is entirely doable. Just hit me up with any questions.

The detail she puts into this little guys is outstanding... and now with actual glowing eyes?!
Beyond amazing!

*applauds*

Quick question, is there a compartment in the back of the doll with glowing eyes where the battery can be swapped out?

I'm still in the protype stage of this but yes there is a place for you to swap batteries (9v) out. its a pocket that goes in the doll and can be velcro shut with a flap . When you open the flap you will only see the battery and fabric and not the guts (stuffings) of the doll I'll have pics at some point of this but i'm having problems finding the time to work on my own personal doll

I'm curious if it's price point that made this round of plush dolls popular with the art forum crowd. A few of us have ventured into this realm before but nothing came of it like this.

For me, it's mood. Layla creates these superbeings as if they're part of Layla (blue naked chick with pink hair) world. Layla also has a knack for figuring out how to caricature a hero within the constraints of the yarn doll. The eyes are always telling. Whether they're buttons, or cloth, they aren't going to be duplicative of human eyes, yet they're the most telling element of the face. Often the only element. Layla has a knack for getting this right. In the case of my Airhead, she chose white buttons but painted the insides grey. I have no idea where this comes from, I haven't seen it done before or since, but it makes more sense than anything else I can think of. Layla has a knack for personality in a minimalist solution.

That's just my point of view, as a very happy customer

I can't really put it better than airhead. She's just got a unique way of making these guys, they come out looking...well, awesome, really. This last one was a doll version of one of my uglier costumes on a main character. I don't know how/why, but suddenly I love the costume.

And no, it's not just because of the glowing eyes!

I just find it odd, since the level of detail in these new dolls is starting to be anything but minimal. They're adorable, but they're no longer rag dolls, really. I'm just curious if it's accessibility, speed, price, or something else that's made this explode. I frankly love OC dolls as there's nothing like having your characters become real in a sense.

I won't post where I got these from, simply to keep this thread belonging to Layla. But I am extremely curious now if it's the button eyes that's the key, because it's the only thing that's particularly different now. I figure from an expression perspective, the button eyes actually reduce the emotive ability of the artist. Perhaps that's a good thing?

Hmmm...I know what you're saying....I guess I don't know. It's hard to put into words, if you know what I mean. Perhaps it's the variety of materials she uses, along with the innocent quality of them? The colors?

They remind me of classic rag dolls, but...they have a personal effect on me, since they represent my characters. I dunno, like I said, it's hard to describe. Edit to add: I don't think it's just the button eyes that make it different, though.

Anyway, that aside, I look forward to seeing her develop her technique even more. She experiments with each new doll, and she's come so far in only a couple months.
