I Survived the Great Name Cull of 2011

In a spin off from the "My Global was eaten and now I'm...." thread.

I just wondered how many like myself (I've been reliably* informed by SG mates as I'm not been in game yet) managed to make it through the server list merge with their original global handle in tact?

This is just for information to get a rough idea of ratios. It seems quite a few of my SG's members have been hit by the change.

I got hit, but only because of my own US account from years back, so I changed it and all is well in Coin land

Saying that, been trying to create a Coin on each of the US servers as placeholders for now, sadly, half of the servers already have a Coin on them!!

My 2nd account survived intact, cunningly named @ohms 2

My first account survived! I'm still shocked. My second account got hit by the cull and is now @Shadowe2.

I survived! I guess they just couldn't get that rename past my.... ego.

Shame by account name got hit, but I can live with that... Just about.

Annoyingly though, my best friend lost BOTH his global names...

Oh, nevermind, sorry, I was a US player. I thought US globals were going to be affected to.

I am the only Antares! I wasn't affected, so I assume there was no EU Antares! Still, if I find out who ingame has my Name on Virtue, I'll pay them to take it!

Not exactly... if there was someone on EU with the global name Antares they'd be the ones who would be affected. The Devs decided NA player names were untouchable and sacrosant so EU players got shafted (again). We're used to it by now though.

Heck even our global channels have been derided in favour of the NA ones even though Defiant is a EU server and someone decided to create a Defiant Events NA side which made one of the oldest global channels on EU to be appended with a EU: Defiant Events EU.

I have a feeling, at it's most basic, the devs wanted to do the merge with as little complex code as possible to minimise potential problems, though it wouldn't have been difficult to code the merge to give preference to someone/thing that had been named as such longest (they may not have stored any data that could be used for such a check, however).

Both my @TiredAngel and @TiredAngel2 globals survived

Although my second account name was changed because it clashed with my own old US trial account which has been inactive for ages

Um, checked this morning and still had my Global, have now just lost my Global WTF, 75 months I've had that name.

Are names still being lost when people are logging on NA side?

Any chance a red name can tell me why I had my Global at 08:00am this morning, and when I logged in a 18:00pm it had changed?

Is there a chance now that I have renamed, that will also change at some point?
