Allow us to buy R and VR thread components with NOTW

The WST is a great idea, and I would love to see it continue with the same fervor that came with the Strike Pack. So I suggest that we be allowed to convert Notices of the Well into rare and very rare components of the higher thread tiers.

I would suggest the following conversion rate:

Rare thread component = 3 (three) Notices of the Well
Very rare thread component = 1 (one) Favor of the Well; 3 (three) Notices of the Well

Additionally, I would allow a player to purchase a common or uncommon thread component for one Notice of the Well. We're at a point where the trials have had a period of exclusivity and opening up the options seems more than appropriate.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Making the Notices/Favours do SOMETHING past Alpha is a good idea. (No, shards do not count with their atrocious conversion rate)

/Signed, even if I think a Favour and 3 notices is a tad too much

but i think favor should have a 1/1 conversion rate with VR

A touch overpriced. I'd say the following sounds "about right":

Rare thread component = 1 (one) Notice of the Well + 16 (sixteen) shards
Very rare thread component = 1 (one) Favor of the Well + 16 (sixteen) shards

This way there would still be a penalty, but not such an excessive one that no one would use it.

Having a Notice break down 1:1 to an uncommon thread component would be acceptable.

I like it!

But I'd say a bit cheaper on it...wasn't it 4 notices = 1 Favor?

I like the OP's overall point, but I think Snow's prices are much better. I approve.

favor of the well is 2 notices + 32 shards

Please note, and Snow Globe knows this to be true, that the developers tend to come in SIGNIFICANTLY higher than I set the bar at. I recognize that three Notices seems steep, but I would actually expect the devs to set it higher. The comparator deterministic factor is Empyrean merits, and I'm guessing the devs would want them to have at least a 3 to 1 advantage in time over NoTW.

Yes, and if they did make it 3 Notices per Thread Rare, no one would ever use it, so it is pointless to set it that high. Setting the 3:1 Notice to Rare ratio would be significantly more costly than the Notice->Favor conversion. It would be so costly that I doubt that anyone would use it.

Edit:
A rare thread component is 4 days of trials. A Notice is 1 per 7 days. To use EvilGeko's figures it would take 21 days for a single rare thread component.

A very rare thread component is 15 days of trials. A Favor of the Well takes 2 weeks + 32 shards (about 2.5 weeks). To use EvilGeko's figures, that is 5.5 weeks for a single very rare thread component.

Id have to go with the desktop ornaments pricing. You can only get the notice once a week.

Where the devs come in on this, recently seems to have come from lunatics bowling with magic 8 balls.

I would. After you have your very rare alphas, Notices have no use at all.

Three weeks yes, but realistically only three TFs. Versus 8 trials. There's no need for us to fight, because I don't really have any quarrel with your figures, I just think there's no way the devs would set it that low.

Put it this way, just because the Devs trend that way doesn't mean it's right

Again no need to argue about whether it's right or not. The key is for the devs to allow us to convert Notices. IF they even do it, they'll set the bar where they see fit.

I don't know, I'm still planning on creating all 32 alpha tree powers on one character. Then again, I'm sure that people will think doing that is crazy.

<shrug> I'm not wanting to quarrel with you, but I didn't want the developers to think that kind of price gouging was acceptable.

I'm half tempted to start a long pointless argument with you just so the thread doesn't fall to the bottom!

Oh, you wanted a long and pointless argument? I might be able to provide one.

The idea stinks because the developers use a dart board to determine prices and while they initially set prices higher during testing they reduce the price to make it appear they are listening to feedback.

Is that a good start?

Heh I just noticed that my rate, if people just used Notices instead of earning shards, actually is more expensive than EvilGeko's numbers. Each Notice breaks down to 4 shards.

Geko's 3 notices for a Rare Thread vs my 1 Notice + 16 shards (4 notices broken down). If people just used Notices (and not stray shards) for my version of the Very Rare, it would take 14 Notices (2 notices for the base crafting and 8 notices for the 32 shards to craft the Favor, then an additional 4 for the extra 16 shards).

Also, my rate means that the rare components can be created absolutely deterministically and depending on the TFs at issue, in less than two hours. Yours requires that people be lucky and get 16 shards. Which for a "mostly" soloist could be awhile unless they're lucky on the TF where they get the Notice.

See Snow Globe is a closet hardcore out to harm the little guy!

Actually both versions can be done in a deterministic manner. Just that my version takes a bit longer if you solely use the deterministic means. However shards do drop even while exempt now, so it should provide a bit of a buffer from a pure deterministic route.

Regardless of the quibbling over the details I like the fundamental idea of converting some number of NotW and FotW to Rare and Very Rare thread components. It would motivate people to keep doing them long after their Alpha slotting is done.

If we can't just get rid of shards and notices altogether and go to one salvage system in Incarnates, then /sign.
