Ok, so how do I stop my game from exploding when I open the contact window?

Posted

I'm getting pretty tired of having my game lock up for about a minute or three and have to have VPU Recover come and save me whenever I open my contact window.

What driver version (ATI) do I have to roll back to (currently back to 10.9) or settings I have to disable to make CoH stop crapping itself?

I'm using 10.8 after having that problem with 10.11 and 11.1. 10.8 works for me. I didn't try 10.9.

if you running ultra mode, turn off the water effects and see if the problem goes away

2.33 Ghz quad core, 4 GB ram (down to 3 and a bit due to 32 bit OS), and a 1 GB Radeon HD 5330 video card. I don't imagine that my PC is considered relatively fast, but it WAS running Ultra Mode just fine and crashless until recently.

Do you have riva tuner or any other OC utilities? Any recently installed items? COH doesnt play well with everything.

I am betting it is an incompatibility with a recently added utility of some type.

This should really be listed on the known issues page and fixed.

I'd try by shutting off TBPanel.exe first to see if that resolves it, and if not, shut off XPadder and then PrintScreen to see if one of those is conflicting.

I suspect it may be TBPanel since it is a tool to allow you to control the graphics card settings. We've had similar problems with tools for nVidia cards like the Riva Tuner mentioned by _Zep_ and similar programs like EVGA Precision.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

And, while you're messing around on the computer, free up some space on your primary drive. At 13% free space, you're getting to the point where it will start impacting system performance.

Xpadder and PrintScreen were installed before I started having crash issues.

TBPanel was installed after to give me manual control over my GPU fan, as if I don't adjust it manually the card heats up by about 15-20 C when I'm running CoH.

An OC utility is a program like TBPanel that allows you to adjust and/or monitor the fan speeds, clock speeds, etc. on your video card. I suspect that this program is the source of the problem due to problems with similar utilities for nVidia cards. The OC stands for Over Clocking.

How can you tell if that's the problem? Disable it completely or uninstall it. If the problems stop, you will have found the source of the problem. If not, you will have eliminated it as being the source of the problem and can re-enable or re-install it and continue troubleshooting from there.

You have only 64GB of free space on the 500GB hard drive where CoH is running.
Whenever you experience this incredible slow down do you also hear the hard drive grinding away full tilt (or if your system is noisy to the point where you barely hear the HDD when gaming does the disk drive activity light on your tower blink like crazy)?

If you just installed something right before the problem started happening then I would agree that you should test for it first as that is most likely the culprit, if not I expect your system is low on space and is having to "juggle" to try and keep up with demand.

Either way it wouldn't be a bad idea to burn off a bunch of your... video stuffz to DVD (shoot for at least 25% free space), then run CCleaner to get rid of any internet cruft (make sure you know all your online passwords beforehand) that's built up and then do a full defragment of your hard drives and see if that doesn't solve it for you. Cheers.
