Of course. And I have no problem with assumptions. It's hypocrisy I can't stand. :P

You stated that Star's assumption made their argument invalid and then... almost immediately afterward... embraced an assumption of your own in order to prove your point. That is hypocritical, no? Or am I thinking of a different word?

And what assumption would that be that I embraced?

That fire has universal applications that aren't only found on earth? Sorry that's a fact.

That we have no way of knowing if the concept of religion is universal outside of Earth? Sorry that's also a fact.

That creatures that hunt in packs can communicate with each other and not be intelligent? Again that's another fact.

That the best part of the episode was the ship exploration? That's neither an assumption nor a fact but a matter of opinion.

Please be more specific.

This is close to the subject, but you're skewing it. You assumed the creatures communicated with each other when we didn't see it happen at all. It wasn't even implied.

Did they even say they hunted in packs? The cave creature was alone when it attacked the group and brought back the 2 captives. It protected it's cave alone. It went inside the cave to eat alone. The only time I can remember more than one creature being in the same area was right after the (human) hunting party killed one of the beasts. More popped up, but that doesn't mean they were in a pack. You don't assume 2 hawks are hunting together when they go after the same prey. They could have been competing against each other... We didn't any kind of cooperation or teamwork on the part of the animals, from what I can tell.

I'm not assuming anything. They did imply it because the creatures stalked them as a group, set traps for them, adapted their tactics, and made coordinated attacks when they new the rescue party was focused on something else.

It was protecting the packs lair while the others were out stalking the rescue party.

Yes they did. after the second ambush when it was just Greer and the Lucian guy left they had this discussion.

Greer - Following their trail has gotten way too easy. It's almost as if they're daring us to come after them.
Lucian guy - They're luring us in to finish us off.
Greer - The thing that attacked us back at the camp was bigger than the ones we're tracking now.
Lucian guy - These tracks are smaller these are the babies. We're getting close to their lair. The fact that we're dealing with more than one of these things reduces the chances of finding our people alive.
Greer - Are you saying you're having second thoughts? Cuz you know I can do this on my own.
Lucian guy - Oh no you can't. Hell I don't even think we can do this together, but I'm gonna see this thru. Besides this close to the nest we're past the point of no return.

Not only did they say the creatures work as a pack they said they were part of the same family.

Maybe you missed that scene.

You are assuming that just because the rescue party didn't realize they were being stalked by mulitiple creatures working together that the creatures weren't together until that one scene.

But we know they weren't from the discussion between Greer and the Lucian guy. The parent was guarding the lair while the babies stalked and killed the rescue party. That requires teamwork and communication.

Yes it does. One creature made a bold attack to distract the humans in the rescue party while the other two snuck in and killed two of the humans when their backs were turned. That requires communication, teamwork, and tactics.

Again, we had some good character growth. Especially with Greer and Rush. We even got some with Volker and Park.
So, how many people died on the planet? I think I counted 4, two each of the Lucians and Destiny military. But, I’m not sure. And are we left with only the one Lucian dude now? And TJ did jump to the “they recognize intelligence by fire” thing awfully fast. But at that point in the show, they just had to wrap things up and it was probably the easiest way to do it.
Overall, I enjoyed the episode. I am however, miffed with the whole “moves to a new time next Monday” that I heard at the next week preview. It’s like the network doesn’t even care if it’s viewers want to see what happens. Which is probably true at this point…

I would find it a lot funnier if every planet conducive to letting humans breathe on the surface without a respirator ends up looking like Canada...

Seems like it. I don't remember that part.

No... technically I was assuming they weren't working together because we don't actually see them... working... together. However, since the show actually said they were hunting as a pack... and I missed it... it doesn't really matter anyway.

Well, you knew... I think I was starting up some popcorn during that part...

Eh, I give. I could argue semantics and keep this little discussion going for a while... but I'm getting tired of it. lol. Congratulations, you are clearly the more stubborn of the 2 of us. =)

Actually I was lucky to find a website that was airing the episode this soon so I could double check my memory of that scene. SyFy hasn't gotten around to putting that episode up yet.

As to the discussion I wouldn't exactly call it being stubborn, I was enjoying having a lively discussion that hadn't devolved into name calling and insults that we see so often on the forums. In past discussions about this show some people have taken pointing out the shows flaws as personal attacks.

Ah well. Looking forward to the next conversation about the soon to be cancelled SGU.

This is what they should have been doing all through the tedious sucky 1.5 seasons that preceded the current episodes. They implied some exploration but really they should have shown a bit of the ship each episode and found some useful supplies to tide them over from time to time.

Best part of the episode was Rush messing with Eli and an another scientist without them realizing it. Second best part was Greer and the Creature in the cave.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

This was one of the heated discussions we had in the first season when the Destiny left that previous galaxy for the one they are in now. They had plenty of time to do 1 or 2 episodes exploring the ship and discovering things they could use regardless of how fast the ship travels between galaxies.

Just watched the episode and; yeah...it was an okay episode. Definitely don't think Rush would have done what he did in this one a few episodes ago....but I think it was done well enough.

It seemed like Rush actually got some data from that status pod that he was (or wasn't?) expecting too....

I look forward to it as well.

These last few years I've been increasingly focused on facts and objective thinking. I believe the increasing idiocy in politics has really made me wake up and take notice of my own flaws. Had this been 10 years ago I would have called you a d-bag and ended it there. lol.
