Primal firing first is interesting, and something I have speculated about in the past. My guess is it's probably related to Maelstrom's origin. There aren't any specific dates given, so it's hard to say if everything that happened there was before or after Praetoria attacking Primal and kidnapping Statesman (the first time)... but it is possible it happened before.

From Maelstrom's long bio on the Going Rogue site:

Quote:
Ultimatum had access to one of the only dimensional portals outside of Portal Corporation. They used it to fund their research and acquire new technologies for their operatives. This time they used it to access Praetorian Earth, the home of Tyrant and his evil Freedom Phalanx analogues. They were seeking technologies belonging to Anti-Matter and Neuron for their own gain. Unfortunately their operatives had been captured.

It was only a matter of time before their operatives gave up information to Tyrant about where they came from, and this information could spark an inter-dimensional war. Maelstrom and Melee were sent to Praetorian Earth to rescue the hostages or at the very least make sure the hostages didn't talk.
If I remember correctly, Maelstrom's core thing was originally stolen from Praetoria (forget which arc states this, or if I'm even remembering it correctly), so Ultimatum have had agents in Praetoria stealing tech for a while, at least. It could even have been the thing that made Praetoria aware of Primal Earth in the first place.

So... if I'm right about it, it wasn't Nemesis that fired the first shot this time, it was the US military (or a top secret organization in it, anyway).
Why are top secret organizations never the good guys?

Because their top secrety organizations? If you have to hide something, your probably not doing something good.

I can't check out the video, nor do i have time, but a transcript can be read a lot easier then a video can be played, any chance of an actual transcript being made?

Primals fired first
I'm not motivated enough to watch the video, but if they're retconning this it's pretty disappointing. The original arcs made it clear the Praetorians had bases on Primal before Primal even knew Praetoria existed.

Not entirely true. It made it clear that Praetoria knew of Primal Earth before Portal Corps knew of Praetoria, but that doesn't mean that a different area of govenment (say, the kind folks Maelstorm was working for) didn't know about Praetoria before we (the hero, and Portal Corps) knew about Praetoria

Not buying it.

Eh, I'm pretty sure as far as the devs are concerned, you don't have to buy it. Think of the Rikti situation though, see, we knew about them before they became all psyho and we even were going to progress into a treaty (or atlest trade agreement) with them, but then Nemesis fired first, and started the whole rikti war (both 1 and 2 actually, that *******) So it very easily could have been Primal Earth that fired first, as a means to defend ourselves from another dimensional attack..

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the whole thing is Maelstrom's fault. Hmmm, let's see....

1: NPC who shows up everywhere even though nobody cares about him? Check.

2: Organization that has been around for ages but we've never heard as much as a whisper of before? Check.

3: Plotline that makes sense as is (Praetoria fired first) and doesn't need to be retconned? Check.

4: A retcon that would be a hamhanded cludge at best and doesn't in any way build on pre-established game lore? Check.

Yep, Maelstrom started it.

Well its about time WE started something

I'll be happy to "flashback" to Praetoria and start the whole war off . . . . . . saying that, thats maybe possible . . . . . .. .

That would be pretty fun.

Especially if a villain can do it so that you can use the war to grab some incarnate goodies

I dunno. trying to separate the "real" information from the vague hints would be difficult at best.

I did find Protean's comment on the Primal's firing first to be interesting, since it was not clear from the video whether or not it was canon fact or it was Cole Propaganda. The commentary surrounding the line that the primal's fired first may have indicated that Protean was giving the Cole version of what happened.

I kind of which I had gotten involved because one of the questions that was covered, I don't think was covered to my liking... that being fighting in the game's past. One of the features I've been looking forward to since Ouroborus was the ability to play along on missions that covered events only told through plaques and location badges... E.G. seeing the fights of Atlas; trying to prevent the attack on the secret base in Terra Volta; or even taking part in the destruction of Hero Corps.
