New JLA movie in the works?

It'd be nice to finally see it happen, but as always I'll see it when I believe it, or something like that.

I prefer a more cautionary "It would be nice to see it happen and not suck"

Too many alts to list.

Well as we all know the idea of a "comic book movie not sucking" is definitely going to be a highly subjective thing. Even if they make the most awesome JLA movie humanly possible there will still be a subset of comic book geeks who'll whine about it regardless.

I hope Darkseid is the villain. Possibly even have it where the armies of Darkseid invade Earth like at the end of JLU. Could even lead Superman giving a certain speech to Darkseid then giving him the Superman version of the Falcon Punch like he did in JLU.

True enough, but given the track record of JLA efforts so far I can't say I'm overly optimistic, and I generally cut comic book movies a fair amount of slack (I didn't even mind Dardevil or Wolverine too much).

Yeah I actually try to be as forgiving of live-action comic book movies/shows as I reasonably can be myself.

But any "supergroup" based comic book movie is going to have the added complications of getting multiple actors to "look" right and balancing out their screen time to make all the fans happy. Any attempt at a live-action JLA movie has always had a hard mountain to climb and that clearly explains why they've been trying to figure out how to make it work for decades now.

I wish them all the luck if they finally get this project off the ground. Like you it sadly does seem like the odds are stacked against them on this.

I think it will work if they don't do any background filler. In my belief, the reason why a lot of comic movies are bad is the need to tell the origins story. Just skip to the middle and drop hints as to the origin.Imagine the chaos if they try to do 5-6 origin stories along side and actual plot.

Which is why it will likely work for Avengers.

You're getting the origin stories out of the way with their single pictures, THEN teaming them up! \o/

This. Majority of viewers should by now be familiar with Batman, Superman and even Wonder Woman's origins.

Green Lantern is simple: a dying alien passed him the ring.

Aquaman: came from Atlantis to join the fight.

Martian Manhunter: ok now he may need some origin time.

From a profit point of view, they need to make movies for each of these characters, with budgets based on the popularity of the characters. I don't think a Martian Manhunter movie will be as big as a Wonder Woman movie.

Part of the problem with a Martian Manhunter movie is he doesn't have a set love interest and archvillain, which seem to be mandatory for every superhero movie these days.

It's okay, cuz Martian Manhunter's origin can be revealed in the movie. Afterall, he IS the heart of the team.

I can not think of any time in cinema history where a studio has hatched the plan to create an intertwined series of films the way Marvel is doing it. There have been one-off crossovers and two different series jammed together (Jason v. Freddy, Alien v. Predator), but as far as I can recall intentionally creating a "movie cycle" is unique.

A JLA film is going to have an uphill battle if Christian Bale doesn't participate, because the Marvel plan is so audacious and the individual characters have established audiences behind them. If they're starting off fresh, that's a chore and a half for them.

They need to lock down Brad Bird before Marvel gets a hold of him.

Um hence the Batman reboot taking place after the next film.

the article in the OP even states the following

Quote:
Batman will continue to be a centerpiece property beyond next year’s 'The Dark Knight Rises' and Nolan’s departure from the franchise. "We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman." Asked whether that meant he wanted to reinvent or possibly even reboot the character, Robinov answered assertively: "I do. Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is."
</I>

In short Bale doesn't have to participate. I wonder if we can get a dark grey batman with a navy blue cape and cowl this time

And must do the "swim" dance, call Robin "old chum" and have plenty of Bat-Shark repellent.

You missed my point: I'm saying that Bale DOES have to participate, because as of right now he is inextricably associated with Batman the way Christopher Reeve was associated with Superman. Hence my usage of the phrase "uphill battle".

They can reboot Batman in 10 years, but just as no one would've bought someone else playing Capt. Kirk for Star Trek III, audiences aren't going to buy someone else as Batman the summer after Dark Knight Rises. ESPECIALLY when The Dark Knight featured Batman impostors. There will be posts after the JLA movie saying, "I was watching this Batman impostor wondering when Bale was going to run him over with the Bat-tumbler."

I have never heard or seen someone give Bale that much clout in the role of Batman before. Great movies. But he is hardly iconic, or locked into the role at all. In fact, a lot of people say he is the worst part of the movies.
