Claws/Dark Armor - Another set of eyes would be nice
I remember reading BillZ talk about shockwave and how it was different for brutes than for scrappers. On his scrappers, Shockwave turned to knockdown when facing +4 enemies, but it was still knockback for his brute.
|
Its funny because I used the KB to my advantage leveling up my Claws/Invuln (way back when) but then I dropped it in favor of ball lightning and e-fences at l50

Yeah, after reading this thread I decided to start leveling up a KM/Dark Brute. Like I needed another freakin' project. Thanks Dechs. /em angryface

I've seen Claws builds that skipped this power; I cannot imagine why.
|
I put my single target chain as my priority, followed by my PBAoE chain, and between the two of them I don't have enough slots to actually take Shockwave and slot it like it deserves.
If i can figure out a way to keep all the things I want and still slot Shockwave it will be going right back in my build. The way my Claws scrapper is built, something had to go, and Shockwave is what got the axe. I know very well how good of a power it is and I wish I had room for it.

Not enough slots to go around.

I'm guessing you throw in a TAoE attack from the ancillary like Ball Lightning or Dark Obliteration. Do you find the redraw detrimental?
I've found I move a lot while playing claws, particularly upwards. Jumping prior to a shockwave seems to make everything get knocked down. More than that, though, I find I'm always moving to line the right targets up for Eviscerate and to angle my shockwave to hit the whole spawn into a corner or against a wall. Shockwave is phenomenal for those enemy groups that like to stand still and shoot.

Well, where you chose to avoid knockback, I choose to avoid redraw. I already get enough with the occasional Dark Regeneration.
|
You know, I love the synergy between KM and Dark Armor. There are stuns and -damage and knockdown for mitigation
|
The new Fury makes it much more useable as a survivability tool, but I still prefer to simply have built-in mitigation or less mob neutralizing tools like KD, which gives more of a "breathing room" type of mitigation in comparison to stuns or fears.
That's I went for Darkest Night, skipping oth OG & CoF on my DM/DA/Soul brute.
DC means being able to run DN with no issue.
Ah, I could see that. I avoided that problem by not having ancillary powers that require slots.
I'm guessing you throw in a TAoE attack from the ancillary like Ball Lightning or Dark Obliteration. Do you find the redraw detrimental? |
Even then claws has "redraw lite" in comparison to BA or WM.
For something like adding two TAoEs worth of extra damage, the redraw penalty is minor IMO.
You're still most likely doing more AoE damage overall after you factor the redraw (due to the number of targets), and it also gives you yet another tool for a Brute - being able to attack, and therefore aggro, 16 opponents at an 80ft range in a 15ft radius is very useful for my style of play.
Update: So this brute went through Praetoria at the standard difficulty. When I hit level 20 and came redside, I changed it up to -1/x3. Better for fury, but not overwhelming. No problems.
Fast forward to level 37. Shockwave and a few sets makes a huge difference. Endurance management is still a bear, I generally don't run all my toggles. At that point I jumped the difficulty again to +0/x5 and this brute has been a blast.
I hit level 40 last night, and here's where the slotting sits for now. Thanks again for the help, everyone.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?
Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?
The power icons? Those are Corva's. You'll have to search the General Discussion board for his thread.

Dechs, you were right, this combo is awesome. I decided to reroll my 1st toon, a claws/regen scrapper. Since regen is currently my least favorite secondary, I figured I'd give DA a shot. Man, this is a face rippin good time.

This was the least impact change I could come up with to
A) Get taunt into the build.
B) Keep a travel power.
Losing a travel power means losing the Winter's Gift anyway, so I swapped it for a -KB IO.
Then dropped the -KB IO from Dark Embrace, and used the slot for the Numi Proc.
You lost some recovery from dropping Physical Perfection unfortunately.

I'm already at a slight net end loss when I rotate AoEs in the chain, so Physical Perfection can't go. I also highly value the regeneration in this build because I've put so much into +max HP.
The next thought was dropping Super Jump because I actually don't use it all that often. The problem here is that I need Super Jump to have Acrobatics, and I'm not willing to drop Acrobatics until Dark Armor gets some KB protection of its own. One KB IO does not stop Wardens, Fake Nemesis, and quite a few other things from knocking me on my hind end.
I've been forced to drop Oppressive Gloom, which I'm actually OK with. I don't often use it, and unlike my Tank counterpart, this character has some control in its attacks. Op Gloom wasn't giving me any set bonuses either, so I've not lost anything important. I did move things around though, so Taunt is available even in low levels.
Here's how it ended up:

English isn't my birth language, so don't blame me if I do some mistakes. thank you !
I wandered into this thread wondering: what's the best claws/da brute money can buy? I wanted to be able to tank, dps, aoe, and solo AVs, if possible.
This was my first stab. I'd like to work some more achilles into it, but it has more net recovery, more recharge, and with some boosters (hello, I21) could soft cap when combining the defense + the cloak debuff. I really want OG, too. /greedy.

Round 2.
Within a purple of capping, nearly capped S/L without a purple if they get hit by Cloak of Fear. Fairly beefy recharge (almost permahasten if you wanted spiritual). If it turns out to be too expensive endurance-wise, the slots in OG can be sacrificed for endred elsewhere.
Now has an achilles proc, etc. Anyhow, I think I may actually start going with this. (Note: intend to abuse enh boosters here, quite likely, to eke out a few % here and there)

Here is a mostly accurate copy of my 15 Brute. All enhancements are 15++ except for one IO 15. Accidentally added a slot to Hover and not sure how to remove it in program. Seeking advice on where to add enhancement slots, I mainly solo if it matters.

@cake - I'd try to get another slot into each claw attack, and then I'd plan to add to dark regen which you get at 16. It's super powerful but painfully expensive end-wise.
Cake, always add endurance reduction to your attacks before you add damage increases on a brute.
The ability to keep attacking and build fury far outweighs the amount of damage you gain from the damage enhancement.
Where to now?

Planning on adding slots to resists powers, is there a cap on resists I should aim for?
Silas and Dechs Kaison are teaming up in this thread? The results will be amazing.
