Primeval

So I'm watching the BBC show Primeval on Netflix and I'm wondering: does it get better or worse?

For every episode that's good, every other show is just retarded. I just watched episode 5 and it really makes me want to kick everyone involved squarely in the royal jewels. The pteranodon menacing people for no other reason than as a plot device to make you think it's the killer of golfers. People running from the pteranodon straight down a golf club's fairway instead of running sideways into the trees. Shooting both high-velocity bullets and giant tranquilizer darts over the city, disregarding where they might come down. A tranquilizer dart that hits the pteranodon and *instantly* brings it down. One guy tasting dinosaur crap to see if it's eaten people, which, let me just say, WTF?!

Episode 1: not bad, good enough to intrigue me
Ep. 2: dumb but okay, very much a B- monster movie
Ep. 3: really good
Ep. 4: one sub-plot quite good, other sub-plot really idiotic
Ep. 5: as above, flat-out execrable

If it continues on like this, I'm not interested in wasting my time. I don't care how hot the chicks are. Does it get any better, or is the equivalent of Mansquito?

It's ITV, not BBC. Adjust expectations accordingly.

I was just about to post that as I just finished episode 6 and saw the ITV card. 6 was much better than 5, with a nice twist. Although I don't get the "we're in the future" stuff they kept rambling on about. Why does the future have creatures which match the prehistoric monsters? Are the anomalies hooking up with more than just 2007? All right, I admit that I'm intrigued enough to go on to Season 2.

I thought season 1 was pretty good, I enjoyed it enough to keep watching into season 2. Season 2, for me, started kind of going down hill. Plots kind of got dumber, and though I appreciated the big twist(no spoilers) it didn't seem to be handled too well.

Season 3 made me hate the show and cheer when I heard it was cancelled. Characters were dumber than ever, they frequently went against their established character traits just for the sake of moving the lame plot of the week forward, and the big underlying plot that was interesting in S1 and sort of interesting in S2 just fell flat on its face.

So I heard Primeval has been un-cancelled. I'm not likely to watch it again.

For me it's just one of those "guilty pleasure" shows that you know are mostly dumb but keep watching to se just how dumb they are. Primeval had some good twists that never really paid off and in the later seasons they really drop the ball when it comes to playing out longer term storylines. But I'm a sucker for time travel/rift stories and the creature FX are pretty decent. There are worse ways to kill 45 minutes watching TV.

Dinosaur survival tips I've learned from Primeval:

To escape a pteranodon: duck.
To escape a velociraptor: stand still.
To escape a small carnivorous pterosaur: duck.
To escape a mosasaur in shallow water: stand still.
To escape a future man-bat: stand still (main cast only; otherwise it can hear your heartbeat) or duck and wait for larger dino to eat it (this happens a lot).
To escape a mosasaur in deep water: float still and wait for a larger dino to eat it (see, there it is again).
To escape a dodo: no escape.

It gets strange at the end of season 1. Then they start eating the stars leaving the geek and the hot blond with the pixie cut (she's the only reason I watched season two) and Rex. I caught part of one episode of season 4 on BBC America and it still looks like they are trudging along with additional new cast members including another cute girl Jess and Dr. Bashir from DS9 playing the heavy.

Ya, I watched it for a while and the blonde was my favorite bit. A lovely dollop quite a bit of alright, there. Never quite got caught up when it went over to BBCA after being on SciFi. Interesting premise, especially when they....*SPOILER*

changed the present. (Sorry, couldn't find the right color for the text.)

I never watched passed the first episode. Everything I've seen since shows it to be pretty bad imo.

It's .... not horrible. But it certainly isn't great. I think of it as a guilty pleasure since you get to see dinosuars in the modern age. <G> I mean watching a T-Rex wading down the motorway is just fun. Not sane or good but fun.
