Godzilla Comic from IDW - Greatest Variants Ever?

IDW is publishing Godzilla - Kingdom of Monsters next month. To help get this off the ground, IDW offered any retailer that ordered 500 copies of the book the opportunity to have their comic shop smashed by Godzilla on the cover.

500 copies is a lot...but the chance to have your comic store on a comic cover is pretty frikkin awesome.

I like the idea - IDW got 75 retailers to participate in the program, which means that there are over 37,000 copies of the book going to these 75 retailers. And that is probably 36,000 more copies of the book ordered then if there were no promotion. Pretty clever....

Follow the link to see all of the variant covers. Glad to see Newbury Comics joined in this promotion!

These look so cool. For a second there I thought I saw my ex's place but at a closer look the name was slightly different. I would have bought it if it was his in a heart beat. Just might pick this up anyway, always liked Godzilla. His place is known as Alternate Reality on 111th St. east of Kedzie Ave. southside of Chicago.

I don't think I've bought an IDW book yet that I haven't liked. I might wait for this to show up on their iPad app, but eventually gonna check it out for sure.

"And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can mostly say they lived happily ever after. But for them it was the beginning of the real story. All there life in this world and all there adventures in Narnia had only be the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of The Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before" - C.S Lewis, The Last Battle.

Yeah, our LCS in Chico, CA jumped in the 2nd print run, too. Talked with the owner today and he said it's some of the best advertising he's done yet. Got him a lot of free pub on the local news. Should be a hot seller at next week's Free Comic Book day, too

Too bad Marvel lost the rights to Godzilla comics. Now they have a Monster Island, with no Godzilla.

Neat promo, but quite a gamble, or expense ego boost, for stores to take. I'm willing to bet most of the stores that ordered these are chains. I know the one I visit here in town had some on the shelves, but the store on the cover was one of their other 3-4 shops in another town. It's probably a little easier to swallow if you can spread those 500 comics out over several stores.

I know the one I go to in Cleveland is a Single location. but it's regarded as one of the best in the area.
