Which is a better solo quester?

Hiya folks,

I'm trying to decide between an Nrg/Nrg or Sonic/MM for just solo questing, which one would be better for dps and survivability?

Thanks!

I'm not the most knowledgable on blasters but since no one else has responded I'll try to help you out. Someone else will probably come by in a bit and correct me.

I'd probably give the edge to the Sonic/mm in this case since I'm fairly certain that it has better DPS and that it's a fairly single target oriented set. I've heard that people can easily use siren's song on a group, then the ST disorient attack -> Kill disoriented guy, and rinse and repeat without ever having to fight more than one guy at a time.

Course, this would probably be some pretty slow going so if you wanted to ever attack more than one guy at a time you might want the nrg/nrg which is also fairly survivable due to the knock back.

So yea, I'd say sonic/ just because of the AOE sleep...it just might get boring and not be very flashy.

EDIT: and I dunno where you're questing at man. In this city we do missions! :P

Sonic gives you more control, which is good for soloing. KB from energy is nice for soloing though.

I really like my Sonic/Mental/Elec cone blaster for soloing the cimerora walls, they die really quickly now with the +1 from alpha.

Sonic/MM is likely better in both regards.

That said, I've deleted every Sonic Blast character I've played because soloing was simply way too easy for them. The highest one was in the thirties, but there was simply ZERO challenge. My Eng/Eng leads a far more dangerous life, but he's way more fun to solo with. I love fighting tough bosses with him, especially Freak tanks.

Of those 2, the Sonic/MM would be better for solo'ing.

The Nrg/Nrg has great powers for damage, range, KB (which provides some mitigation/survivability), and has great single target damage with Power Burst, Bone Smasher, and Total Focus. It has a really great stunning ability, but they are all single target stuns. It also has very few AoEs which are always handy when soloing. It is fun to play, but I find it works best on a team where other people are drawing some of the aggro off you.

The Sonic/MM provides great mitigation with its AoE sleep, stuns (ST and AoE), fear, and KB (ST and AoE). It also has a buff power with Drain Psyche (I suggest slotting heals for regen rate as this power unslotted will cap your recov rate from just ~3 mobs surrounding you and you really don't need capped recov to carry you through a fight). Sonic has the -res effects that will also help you kill faster.

I completely agree... I too like the challenge and thrill solo'ing my Eng/Eng blaster--same with my Eng/Kin Corr! MUCH fun!

Sonic/MM will have much better survivability on higher difficulty settings due to Siren's Song and Drain Psyche (especially if you turn Bosses off). Single target DPS will go to the En/En by a pretty substantial margin in melee, while AoE DPS will favor Sonic/MM.

Thank you for the responses, Sonic/MM it is then

Just a quick note... Sonic/Energy is probably better than either Sonic/MM or Energy/Energy. Sleep a group, then pummel them one at time with stunning punches and -resist debuffing blasts. You'll probably be able to complete a whole mission without getting hit more than once or twice.

Little late, but for what it's worth, my En/En Blaster is the most survivable Blaster that I've had. He does as well as my other Blasters against EBs, and with everything else, the KB gives him a lot of mitigation.

I should've made this point too. My Eng/Eng is WAY better at dealing with bosses and EBs than my Sonic/Elec was.

It takes more skill with my Eng/Eng to do things that my Sonic/Elec could do quite easily, but my Eng/Eng can deal with things that my Sonic/Elec would have really struggled with.

Can't stand sonic blasters solo........they feel so slow. I'll take an Energy/Elec, personally. Less of the melee damage is put into a slow animating attack.

I'm biased, though. I much prefer Sonic on Defenders than Blasters.

Sonic is nice for a Blapper. Open up with Siren's Song (or Howl + Siren's if you want to risk getting hit more) and then start punching. The ranged shots can seem a bit slow, mainly because some of them are slow (Shout in particular, but the cones aren't that quick either) and Scream is a DoT so it takes a second longer to finish applying damage than other Blaster tier 2s. On the other hand, all that -resist tends to help make up for the speed issues somewhat.

Worth noting: Drain Psyche will not wake them up if you hit them with Siren's Song first.

Sonic/Mental is the sort of Blaster who is at its most awesome solo, and I believe that my Sonic/MM/Elec is able to give my Fire/MM/Mace Blaster a darn good run for its money in terms of damage.

While my Fire/MM Blaster has Rain of Fire, Fireball, Psychic Scream, and Psychic Shockwave at its disposal to deal out huge piles of damage, none of them are the same type of AoE. Fireball is a Targeted AoE, Psychic Shockwave is a Ranged Cone, Rain of Fire is a Ranged Location AoE, and Psychic Shockwave is a PBAoE. This requires a lot of work and movement in order to line up the maximum number of enemies affected.

My Sonic/Mental's main AoE chain consists of Howl, Psychic Scream, and Static Discharge. All three are Ranged Cone attacks, so you barely have to adjust your targeting at all.

Siren's Song works -very- well with Drain Psyche, and Mind Probe adds melee damage when needed. There have been several times in which my Sonic/Mental used Siren's Song, walked into a mob, activated Drain Psyche, and then picked off a Lieutenant or two on the way back out to a safe Cone onslaught range.

Too many alts to list.

Another vote for sonic/mental, it gets every trick that's available to blasters in one character. Defiance and -res work perfectly together, as do sleeps and strong ST damage.

That said, SOLO, I'd pick Ice/MM Ice has higher damage and waay less root time. (ignoring the -res) the slows and the HOLDS allow you to easily pick apart a high level small spawn (I find I get more experience solo facing tough small groups of enemies instead of large groups of weak enemies). Main reason for saying ignore the -res, usually enemies die in too few attacks for you to get significant -res on them.
