the statesman used for the last mish of maria jenkins arc has always been labeled as an archvillain as long as i can remember

the bane spiders being arbiters is definitly a bug though lol

As it's been explained to me, it stems from the fact that the Arch-Villain equivalent, "Hero", didn't exist until City of Villains came out, and the "Rescue Statesman" mission is hella older than that. States was the only ally NPC meant to be that powerful, so he just got stuck with that classification, and it was never fixed later when the alternative became available.

I've also heard it used as evidence that we're actually rescuing Tyrant in disguise, though. Which'd kinda be awesome.

That would be pretty impressive, since Tyrant is in the exact same room as Statesman in the original mission.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

In the revamped Maria Jenkins arc, you meet a Statesman automaton that Tyrant has constructed in an attmept to trick Lady Gray into shutting down the war walls - there's scope for all kinda of wacky hijinks with something like that

It'd also be interesting to know if Tyrant had the automaton built for him, or if he got it from someomne else, who might have built Freedom Phalanx automatons before

Tyrant got Neuron to build him a clone to fool us!

Alternatively, Nemesis plot.
