84 Month Vet Reward
Is JUly 2015 here yet?
Enjoy your day please.
If you believe it's become MY crusade to see the Vet system of this game reformed into something that doesn't solidify a "have / have not" culture then I guess I'll be guilty as charged on that one. Vaguely accusing me of this (given my general posting history) is somewhat laughable, but if it makes you feel better to label me that way then knock yourself out with that. |
When I saw this badge, I thought what next ? A vet award that makes you do extra damage in pvp ? I can't say what the devs were thinking or if they were thinking much at all when they put this in, but if they were thinking, it looks like they were thinking no point in trying to get new players to play.
P.S. In the past Nethergoat has argued that it was perfectly all right that people in closed beta have access to information that would reshape the market and be able to use it to the detriment of others. There are always people in MMOs that want the deck stacked more and more in their favor.
I think that this is a fantastic and overly good reward for those who like to really use the market, and useless to those who do not. The former are probably going to make a lot more inf, and the latter are going to be throwing up a lot more temporal analyzers mid-mission to glut the market.
I could see this as a base addition too.
Most of the vet rewards are meh, but c'mon, give the developers a break! How many new ideas can they come up with? I've found that over the years about once a year something comes up that is very useful (Sands of Mu, Nemesis Staff, etc.) and I'll never level a new character without spending my first few minutes selecting my vet reward attacks!
Ooh, a sarcasm detector. Oh, that's a *real* useful invention. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...t-sarcasm.html

That is silly stupid powerful
The game will be 9.5 years old when I get this, assuming it's still here.
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Haha, I didn't know that. Yes...will have to give this a try also.

Here's the thing...
Mission Engineer is one of the easiet Accolade powers to earn in the game. It allows you to access the AE interface from anywhere, and could technically be earned at level 1.
I think it would be safe to assume that more people in this game use the markets than use the AE interface, so yes, I think it is silly to make the market interface a power that one has to play for seven years to obtain, when the AE interface is so stupid-easy to earn.
I like "goals" as much as anyone, but what is the goal involved with this reward from the standpoint of someone who just started playing today? Maybe they won't realize how much they could use this power until a few months from now, but then what do you tell them? "Buck up kid, all you gotta do is hope this game - which has already outlived most other MMOs - sticks around for another seven years, and you're golden!"
Remember all the press CoH got for making it to the amazing milestone of a 5th anniversary in 2009? Do you honestly think the game is still going to be around in 2018? I hope so, but am I confident? Not really.
Field Crafter is one of the most time consuming Accolade powers in this game, but it is an actual "goal" you can hope to achieve if you just started playing today. Why couldn't "Field Marketer" have been made available similarly? Maybe require people to vendor 150 or 200, or some other number, each of recipies, enhancements, salvage, and inspirations to unlock it. It would also have the favorable side-effects of increasing stock in the auction houses and destroying Inf.

My City Was Gone
I thought the idea was that the new players were supposed to be motivated to stay long enough to get those rewards. If they're planning on leaving before then, the idea of the rewards as incentive isn't working on them anyway...and why should the Devs please people who are planning to leave? People who lose interest quickly will lose interest quickly no matter what, in my experience.

Kind of like progress quest with a monthly subscription fee ?
In addition to the badge, for 7 years in City of Heroes you will be able to remote access the Auction Houses with the slash command /auctionhouse and gain an additional Character Slot.
May seems very far away to me right now.
