What would a Lash Melee set look like?

Where as a whip is about 1 or 2 yards in length tops usually. Sometimes larger. The reason whip attacks in demon summoning are longer range is... Your actually firing blasts from the whip, or using an extendo-range whip. As such I could see it as an assault set, or melee. maybe a blast set but that's pushing it IMO. Just don't think we'll see a full whip powerset, melee or otherwise.
Not to mention, how do you come up with 9 SEPARATE powers for what a whip does? And no, whipping someone in 9 different spots does not count.

Yeah, there's a limit to how many ways one can swing a whip. I can think of "Light attack", "Heavy attack", "trip", "Entangle" (although this runs into a problem of locking you out of doing anything too), maybe a stun (whip crack in the face)... But that's just the mechanic part. Appearance wise it would pretty much all look alike.

Actually...as for the damage type...I'd lean more towards lethal more than smashing. Smashing damage is more akin to blunt force trauma and you really don't get that much with a whip. You tend to end up with more lacerations, slices, and cuts for whip-related injuries.

Aside from that...i'm with some of the other folkz. I'd personally love to see a whip set released...even if it uses the same mechanic as the DS set attacks (i.e. the whip manifests as you swing)...but i'm not gonna hold my breath on it. They nearly gave themselfs explodey-head syndrome with just the three attacks.

Actually, for a traditional whip I'd think more sonic damage then lethal. The bulk of the damage from a whip comes not from the whip it's self, but the fact the tip is moving at the speed of sound. Getting hit by the tip (barely) is more painful then getting hit by the middle of a bull whip.

I don't konw, I think a crack to the face followed by the tantrum emote on whatever you hit would make a great power

Damage inflicted by a whip has less to do with sound waves and more to do with kinetic energy.

So a whip powerset would in fact be lethal damage.

In all seriousness though..how many attacks could one possibly create based on a whip?

Single lash
Double lash
45' arc cone lash
quick lash to target's throat( stun or hold perhaps?)
taunt
pbaoe lash with knockdown
pbaoe crack whip( stun perhaps similar to Thunderstrike from Storm power set)

The last 2 attacks are tricky. Perhaps the tier 8 is a superior damage knockup? Grab target by leg and fling upward???

Tier 9 could be an extreme damage attack similar to Gravity's power Propel. Grabbing a random object out of thin air and flinging said object at target.

Then again the tier 9 could be the pbaoe knockdown as the tier 9 for dual pistols is a pbaoe.

You know..as much as people have their hearts set on this being a melee set for scraps, stalks, tanks and brutes....I'm thinking a whip set would work better as a ranged set.

After all a whip's full effectiveness is based on full extension of the whip. If it were a ranged set then obviously swap out the taunt for a build up.

Food for thought although we all know this particular set is years away with so much proliferation still needed, not to mention new missions, arcs, incarnate system and so on.

Kinetic Melee is based on the concept of using kinetic energy, and it does Energy/Smashing
(And, since Madam_Enigma said 'sonic damage' rather than any actual damage type in the game, I'll point out that Sonic Attack also does Energy/Smashing.)
