Winter Lord and Imperial Station

So I logged into one of my little praetorian toons and within like 2 seconds I was dead.

I'd left her at Nightstar last time I'd played her having levelled and logged. Logged in and Winter Lord is looming large above me and bam there I was, strawberry jam on the pavement.

So a quick trip to the hospital and a mission with a friend and we ding at the end of it. We cannot level at Nightstar because... Winter Lord is still there. We're level 10 and he's a GM and he and all his cronies are conning a very purply purple colour - as you'd expect.

So a quick discussion: We'll run past and get into the station and level at Nova. Except that there are actually about 5 or 6 purple conning snowbeasty things inside Imperial station. I got about three steps in before I was flat out again.

This raises an interesting point: In Paragon and the Isles, all the transportation points are guarded by drones - PPD or Arachnos drones prevent anything slapping the unsuspecting character as they are trying to move from zone to zone - and I must confess I'd never noticed the absence of guards at the stations but suddenly the whole zone was effectively locked out to a player who didn't want to take on the Winter Lord or fight through the tunnels.

At level 10 taking on the Winter Lord isn't really feasible (we tried and giggled at the result) so shouldn't there be drones or some kind of "anti-spawn" radius around the stations?

Well, drones and the likes weren't very fitting with the praetorian world. So they made the tether system, which works fine.

I do think it's rather daft to put a present spawn location right next to the onyl trainer in the area.

I would say the Winter Lord isn't a good fit there either.

At a time like this, I would just make a run for one of the bridges to the other areas and warn people in the zone about the minions inside the building. The placement of the present seemed like a grief point to me with all the people that like to open them and then run off leaving the mobs. Not much we can do about it this year, but we can bug the devs to have it moved for next years event.

Although I agree the Winter Lord problem should be fixed, you can just head straight across the river to Nova without bothering with the station. You'll zone as you get most of the way across the river. If you already knew that, well, just a reminder for those who didn't.

What's the tether system? I'm not familiar - but yeah it could just be an unfortunate place for Winter Lord to spawn. Worse, if you caught the train from Nova as a lowbie, you're screwed if they are inside the station. You won't know they are there til they get you and then it's hospital. That really shouldn't be allowed to happen.

haha that totally slipped my mind - so silly me - it definitely lessens the impact but in zones where you may not have a travel power and/or ninja run, legging it from one to the other as a lowbie can still be a challenge, especially to an inexperienced player.

I'd hardly call it screwed, since you leave Nova before you can get debt.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

only if you were coming from Nova as a lowbie moving on in the arcs. Not if you were say like 10+ and had been in Nova for... anything. How about you'd been exemping down to help your friends and were now returning?

It's not a massive problem that's game breaking but it does rather go against what we've come to expect and trust. I'm all for a bit of risk but please only in circumstances where I've come to expect it; NOT when I log in at the trainer.

When I tried to play earlier Winter Lord and his several dozen minions were camped out in front of Chief Interrogator Washington, whom I had to go talk to in person in order to complete the story arc I was running. While I managed to sneak around the pillars and get close enough, inching up a little at a time, to open the first dialogue box, that would be about the time I'd get hit with 4 dozen ice blasts and wake up in the hospital.

Needless to say, my only option was logging out and playing another character. I'd say they really need to rethink how they're doing these events in Praetoria.

@Doctor Gemini

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

I saw that on Protector this morning. I was wondering if that was going to cause problems for people. The devs should move that spawn point.

There's quite a few shortfalls in present placement. I saw the one next to Nightstar and thought that's just asking for trouble. Not everyone wants to be Resistence to have the extra trainer location underground.

Another near IVy that meant I got faceplanted trying to talk to her and one tonight opposite Studio 55. Level 50 spawns with Winter Lord G.M. in the middle.

If there are 2 of you you can always shoot and scoot. One of you shoots him from an obstructed place preferably then runs like a little girl. Normally he should chase you with his minions. Although if they are stuck indoors it is time to play another character or run up to Nightstar, die and talk to her from the great beyond (she can do that, actually she barely notices the difference these days).

Why does everyone want to make it easier on new players? I say Spawn the Winter Lord in Outbreak or inside the Hospital, make the game a little more challenging. LOL

I ran into an ambush like that once that spawned inside the Hospital then couldn't get out to chase the guy they wanted (of course they were purple) and starting killing passers by. Bad time to die.

You can't please everyone, so lets concentrate on me.

lol because new players wouldnt even understand that it was a giant monster and think of it as a normal boss perhaps and rage quit at the difficulty
