The Coming Storm *IS* Rularuu.
Oh yes.
Although dimension eating is bad, its kinda final. Chomp, chomp, POOF! Youre dead. End of story.
The Coming Storm I think is far, far worse. A scourge that devours and uses anything it comes across, taking what it wants and burning the rest. How do I know this? I dont. But look at what it supposedly did to the Kheldians (even if the jurys still out on whether Twilights Son sold them to slavery): It took an entire race and used them as batteries to power its starships. That just reeks of something far more evil than just I eat you!
As for Nemesis mistake? Well those of us whove done the RWZ arcs already know about his greatest betrayal. By having us fight that war, humanity has been left weakened so when the Storm does arrive, we will be unable to fight back. I reckon one of the reasons that were cosying up to the Rikti right now is because theyve faced the Battalion and survived so well need their help in the coming battles. (Not quite ruling out a Rikti EAT just yet but not convinced either.)
I havent quite figured out Ramiels arc yet and how it ties into all of this. I have a feeling that the alternate dimension spin is just a cover story for cross server teaming perhaps and doesnt relate as much to the Coming Storm. But then, if Im completely honest, I found the arc very weak in terms of storytelling, a minor step forward padded with enough fluff for anyone to cram their characters stories into it. But thats my personal assessment.
However, has anyone thought yet that the mysterious letter writer might be the Well itself?

Wow. So much for suspension of disbelief and flavor text.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:

Isn't it Ruladak in the mission? He's only an Aspect of Rularuu and very well might have been left behind because Rularuu doesn't need him anymore since he wouldn't be locked in the Shadow Shard anymore.

Props on lacking creativity, open-mindedness and imagination.
Bolded for emphasis. So our characters in-game hang out in Ouroboros and speculate on the nature of the Coming Storm just like we do on the forums. It doesn't mean anything.
Pocket D, which is NOT part of the Shadow Shard. That's just god-moding in a poorly executed attempt at creepiness. I've spent hours in the Shard without going mad, I'm not going to start now just because an explore badge says so. So, don't drink it. Tell your friends not to drink it. Just to be on the safe side, don't swim in it either. Tell your friends. Although, again, I have swum in it in the past, with no ill effects. Now, if some of my powers were suddenly greyed out because I'd "forgotten" I had them, or the Rularuu started conning friendly and other player characters started conning hostile, or I was hit with a debuff or a temp power of some kind...then I'd buy that the Shadow Shard is messing with my character. But don't tell me the game is doing something to my character and expect me to buy it when obviously nothing is happening, and nothing will continue to happen no matter how much time I spend standing on the badge. |
Suspend your disbelief for five seconds and enjoy the game lore. Good lord.

"It was here that Earth's explorers first encountered the mysterious entities of the Shadow Shard. Their threat was implicit and the need to keep them contained became a driving force in the establishment of Tempest Sector. As a representative of Paragon City, you have joined the fight to prevent the denizens of the Shadow Shard from extending their range into your home dimension. Some see their discovery of Primal Earth's dimension as inevitable; a "coming storm" which could rival the Rikti Invasion in destructive potential." |

The rest of his dialog, available on the wiki, is well worth reading carefully for anyone interested in CoH lore. One interpretation is that while Mender Silos / Lord Nemesis is a master of the Xanatos Gambit, he's far less good at Xanatos Speed Chess, and the possible interference from multiple alternate universes at seemingly random (unpredictable from within our universe) times forces him to play a much more off-the-cuff game than he's comfortable with. Another weird interpretation is that Mender Silos / Lord Nemesis isn't actually that good a planner after all, just one of the first people to abuse time travel to give himself clues and suggestions. When he's actually forced into a situation involving complex plots at war and competing time travelers that defy predestination, he starts doing far less well. Ouroboros is primarily an attempt to get all major time travelers aligned into either a fairly predictable path, or in direct opposition to that path, to make reality easier to retroactively foresee. |
though if Mender Silos is hundreds or thousands of years old, he must be an incarnate too...

I figured that as he'd worked out a way to transmit his consciousness, he could simply make new bodies for himself and leap between them when they wore out. That would also mean that he could break the Carbon Law.

Reasons that I support the shadow shard as the coming storm:
There should be challenge, but avoid humanoid enemies stronger than the player at max
Since they are yet another extradimensional enemy they can endanger Praetorian earth and involve them
Shard is cool so use it
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
