Female leads for "The Dark Knight Rises"

Looks like Nolan is planning to start casting for two female leads in his new Bat-film. One will, of course, be a new romantic interest for Bruce Wayne, while the other seems to be a/the new antagonist.

Given some of the rumored choices from that article, I'd say kill two birds with one stone and give us either Catwoman or Talia! Or both!!

Other than that, I think I'd be happy if we finally got a film version of Silver St. Cloud for Bruce's new arm-candy...

My guess would be its actually the same role, and they're just throwing people off. Most/all will read for both parts, which gives them what they need to decide. I'm expecting and hoping for Catwoman, and with the differences between Selina and Catwoman, at least in public, the actress would have to be able to play both roles.

Considering the buildup they've done around Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins in Begins, I'd actually much rather see Talia... Plus, Burton actually did well on Catwoman, I thought, and whoever gets the role has to live with being weighed against Michelle Pfeiffer wearing a suit she was vacuum-sealed into.

I don't know about the current iteration of The Catwoman, but from an historical perspective, I'd like to see them go back to her roots where she was a Mistress of Disguise and the ringleader of a criminal band. Perhaps they could do something like Lee Meriwether's 'Miss Kitka' from the 1966 'Batman' movie (but significantly less campy).

Honestly, I thought that, while Michelle Pfeiffer did a wonderful job of over-the-top characterization as 'Catwoman', that was *not* the real Selina. That was a campy caricature. What they needed was Sean Young in a seriously-written role!

As for Silver St. Cloud ...! Yes! Yes! Yes! Especially if they explore whatever secret(s) she kept from Bruce in that series from the 1970's.

It would be great to see Talia played as she should be. Would they also cast someone to play her father? Or would she be soloing?

As long as it isn't Silver St. Cloud as she was written by Kevin Smith

Oh? She's already been brought back? WOW! I guess I really *am* out of the loop. I remember the character from the late 1970's.

That was some pretty awesome writing and art. I think that it was Marshall Rogers and Steve Englehart back then.

Don't want to spoil anything, but Kevin Smith brought her back and wrote her with such stunning dialogue as this (when asked about why she calls Bruce "DeeDee"):

Well, daddy needs to be gotten to a Lazarus Pit first considering the way he went out in Begins. Which would already be your basic Talia plot if she were to make an appearance. The resurrection of Ra's al Ghul should probably be something only happening towards the end of that plot, which could fill an entire movie, but considering the state of things at the end of Dark Knight they might want to concentrate on other elements.

Nolan seems to want to steer away from any supernatural aspects of the Bat-mythos, so I doubt we'd see something like the Lazarus Pit. Probably won't see anyone with any actual superpowers, either.

...... Indeed.

I thought he also said he wouldn't be using Catwoman either. Or am I mis-remembering things?

And no supernatural stuff means no Poison Ivy. A woman controlling plants would be awfully silly in a movie.

Oh wait, Uma Thurman already proved that it was.

EDIT: Oh, and another possibility is Harlequin. Maybe she's trying to spring the Joker?

I really want this movie to be loaded with costumed villains with a main villain or two. Also, I think they could do without the love interest. But they could kill two birds with one stone by having Catwoman.

Batman doesn't do love interest >_<

Talia and the return of Ra's would be awesome, me and one of my flatmates were talking about it a while back.
T'be honest, I think Nolan will still pull it off whoevers in it. Unless it does the way the first set of Spiderman movies went, in that two times the charm and three is the breaker. Which'd suck...

I still think Poison Ivy could work as a minor villain in the Nolanverse. Just drop the whole plant-controlling thing and make her a chemist turned environmental terrorist/seduction-murderer targeting men who, in her mind, have done some sort of harm to Mother Nature.

Still, I don't think she'd be the right pick for main villain in the conclusion to Nolan's Bat-trilogy. Catwoman would be good as an example of someone skirting the law in Gotham without the hardline moral code that Batman has. And of couse Talia would be awesome to cap off the thread of Ra's and the League of Shadows from "Batman Begins."

I'd like to see them keep the plant control and make a real mystery out of it. Murders involving plants and plant-based poisons are occuring in Gotham and Batman has to figure out who's behind it.

Hmmm, this Pamela Isley seems to be a potential candidate, but she has alibis. Some of the murders seem impossible. Batman has to widen his thinking to figure it out. Maybe find out more about Isley. Well she used to work at this one company, but left suddenly. Right around the time some accident occured in one of their testing labs. What was she working on? Plant research? Hmmmm, interesting.

Poison Ivy doesn't even need to be overt. We could simply see Pamela Isley working on some project and have a voiceover of a harsher voice which would represent the Ivy persona. Kind of like the way that things were done in the 'Rose & Thorn' features in older comic books.

I concur, though, that Nolan's more serious approach to the Batman movies should be unadulterated.

I vote put in Cassandra Cain as Batgirl and have her going around killing people (expanding the idea they put in the Dark Knight) putting Batman in deeper trouble with the law.

For her background have her be trained/mentored by Talia al Ghoul who's taken over the League of Shadows after Ra's death and is continuing his plan to topple Gotham City. Having Cassandra be Batgirl accomplishes her vengeance for daddy and to keep the police busy chasing around the Bat-peeps, while her and the Scarecrow work up some kinda plan that involves FEAR toxins and the water system again or whatever.

For Bruce/Batman it gives him a chance to rehabilitate someone, give the plot a way to clear him of the Dark Knight crimes and add another member to the Bat-family without going the standard Robin formula first.

Well the League of Assassins angle does allow them to bring in Lady Shiva, which could be awesome, but it seems doubtful given the shown candidates.

I still think they could keep the 'serious' Nolan feel without simply crippling options.
Arkham Asylum anyone? The versions of characters shown in there are pretty damn good, IMO.

But at the end of the day Poison Ivy controls plants mentally - that just not in Nolan's mindset for a reality-based Batman trilogy.

And Arkham Asylum (or City) would be the absolutely perfect vehicle for a weekly live-action Batman 1-hour TV show in my opinion.

That's one of my ONLY problems with Nolan's Batman. I can appreciate trying to keep Batman grounded in reality, but to do so to the exclusion of parts of his mythos smacks too much of the old view of comic book movies.

"Well, we're not gonna use THAT part of the comic. That's just too silly to work in a movie."

I guess this means they're not gonna have Miley Cyrus as Bat Girl.
