A couple questions please.

My entire family just arrived back to the game after a few years' hiatus. All 5 of us are playing and all 5 of us are having this particular issue. I have spent hours reviewing the forum boards looking for particular answers. In short, my 5 year old keeps running forward and drawing threat/aggro. We all would very much like for this to stop.

When using the mouse to run, how do you make your character stop moving forward when you release the mouse buttons? All of us continue to zoom forward after releasing the buttons.

How do you lock your powers in the power tray? I know there is a way to do this, or at least there used to be way back in '04 and '05, or I'm just old and "THINK" there was

Any and all responses will be/are appreciated.

To stop running forward, just click the left mouse button once, or use one of the keyboard movement keys. This will stop the autorun that you get into after holding the mouse buttons down to run for a few seconds.

To lock the powers in the tray: Options->General->Miscellaneous->Lock Powers in Tray->Enabled.

Also, you should be able to unbind the mouse from automatically causing an autorun after a few seconds. I think it's in the Menu -> Options -> Keybinding area. I'm just not sure what it's specifically called.

Probably the best way to avoid the locked-running-forward problem is to not use the 1-2 combo mouse buttons for forward movement. Just use the keys on the keyboard. (Personally, I use the "w" key for forward movement, and then hold the right mouse button down so that I can use mouse movements for turning. I find that I can be more precise that way.)

(I have kids who play, too.)

To remove the autorun from kicking in when pressing both mouse buttons, type in:

/bind mousechord "+forward"

You can press a different forward key, a backward key, or the Autorun key to cancel the autorun.

I prefer using the mouse for movement, especially when I'm just traveling to my next mission and I'm eating a snack with my other hand. lol
The thumb button on my mouse is an alternate jump button to make it even easier single-handed forward movement.

Everybody has their own preferences. Nobody should be forced to use a specific method of controlling their character, and due to our extremely customizable bind system, we don't have to.

A thousand times this.

Alternately, you can set it from the keymapping options menu by simply selecting one of the "Forward" keys you don't use and then clicking both mouse buttons simultaneously. Stay away from the option marked "Forward (Mouse Control)", because that's the one that binds "forward_mouse" and activates the autorun after 2 seconds.

As mentioned, there is a place in the options that allows you to lock the power icons.

Personally, I make it even easier with binds.

To lock the powers:
/bind KEY "option_set DisableDrag 1"
To unlock the powers:
/bind KEY2 "option_set DisableDrag 0"

- OR -
Use a single key to toggle it on and off with each press:
/bind KEY "option_toggle DisableDrag"

That way, you can easily toggle it on and off to move new powers as you are leveling up, or temporary powers you earn as you play, without having to search through the options to find it every time you want to make a quick change.

A great big thank you for all the quick responses. Have a great day and hope to see some of you on Freedom. Although, you may NOT want to group with me as I will have a 5 year old "blaster" in the group.......She likes to "blow"things up!

I will admit that my first thought was "5 years old? May not be the keybinds..."

(Fortunately my wife READS but does not POST. I do a lot of Xtreme Point Blank Blaster tricks, and I survive at least 3/4 of them. She has storieessssss...)

I'm not on as much as I was, but I have a force fielder or two on Freedom- I'm @Boltcutter and if you happen to send me a tell and I'm not busy, I can teach bad habits to all the blasters you know. I make Blasters into Tanks. And then when I leave the team... they stop being tanks 3 minutes later.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
