A question about drops
Here's something that's been bugging me - how is drop distribution handled?
Does each mob have a chance to drop an item per person involved in killing it? If an item is dropped for a person who isn't able to take it {full storage, for example}, is it passed on to another person? Do the answers to the questions above apply equally to all types of drops - inspirations, salvage, tips, etc.? |
Not sure about the second question. I am pretty sure it would treat it just like if you were full and solo and just dissapear and no one would get it.

2) If your inventory is full that drop(and you will never know btw) is dust in the wind. Meaning that when your inventory is full you don't receive notification of drops to that character.
3) Yes, it is across all types of drops.

Inspirations - I think so, but I'm not sure.
Tips - I have no clue. I don't even consider them 'drops'.
Note that there are some intentional exceptions. For example, if you defeat an AV, EVERYONE gets an SO of their own origin.
Paragon City Search And Rescue
The Mentor Project
Also, i think inspirations are per-person per mob, at least I seem to recall ambrosia working that way.
Note : In case it's not clear, unless it's coded to not have a specific kind of drop, each drop a mob is capable of is checked separately.
So you could (and people have) kill one mob and get :
An inspiration
A piece of Invention Salvage
An Invention Recipe
An Enhancement
A Costume Recipe
A Tip
All at once.

A couple of other things that weren't asked, but since people might read the thread for answers I thought I'd add:
1. You have a better chance of getting a recipe drop from a boss (to the best of my knowledge).
2. Recipe drops from enemies will generally be at the level of the enemy. This is why a level 1 character can get a purpple recipe drop, if they're on a team fighting level 47 or higher enemies.
3. Recipe drops on completion of mission are at the character's actual level. So if I'm playing a level 50 character through the Freakalympics Ouro arc, I'm exemplared to level 29 and I'll probably get a mix of level 29 recipes and some level 50 recipes during the course of the arc.

One thing that people often get wrong is that level plays no part in this, beyond the fact that greys won't drop anything. A -1 minion has the same chance of dropping something as a +5 minion.

It's roughly 3/5/8 - the actual percentages are on the either the recipes or dros page at paragonwiki.com.

If you're fighting Rikti, there's a chance for Vanguard Merits.
And if you're fighting Trick or Treat spawns or Snow Beasts, there's a chance for Costume Salvage or Candy Canes.
@Roderick
Are they? I heard someone say they got merged into costumes.
*shrug* It was a quick list anyway

And there are always exceptions to the rules.
You never get drops from grey conning foes... except for Tips (and XP if you want to count that as a drop, but only down to -3).
Drops are per foe... except for EoEs; and in I18 Beta, for a while, Shards; and Merits from GMs.

I don't know about the tip, but someone did once post screenshot of a "quinfecta" drop.

Tips are blatantly their own drop pool - even dropping from no-xp grays? Yeah, it could drop with all the other stuff.
