Stargate Universe S02E03
I love this show! it kills me how they end them though... i was dwelling for about 10 minutes that i couldn't find out what happens to Telford... They need to get young out of there and get Eli with Rush.

is it wrong that i wondered if telford was considering whether the aliens had eaten recently and might be carnivorous?
did find it a bit odd that scott and greer made everybody well aware of the gate storage/construction area as sort of explained by rush, then were promptly blown off. maybe next episode.
Kittens give Morbo gas.
I am betting that the aliens work on the ship and are peaceful. I am betting that they turned the tables on the power transfer because the seeder ship is their charge not destiny.
And since we know that gates exist on the seeder ship, im betting its not to long before destiny stops, and the aliens help telford get back to destiny via a gate that is on the ship waiting to be seeded to a planet.
My first thought was it's an Asgardian from before they started their major genetic engineering research. During the commercial I was expecting Rush to start "talking" to it either directly in ancient, or by typing ancient into a computer and having it read it.
Instead he ignores it and they give it a fruit bar. It (the scene) could have been better.
Gol-
I love the thought that they're pre-clone Asgardians. Those pods could have been stasis or even healing chambers.
They made it quite a while without Telford... I honestly think this disappearance will stick. The most we'll hear of him is the next time they use the communication stones... and find out Telford mysteriously came through Earths Stargate with reinforcements to help stop the Alliances attack.
My wild *** theories...
The magical mystery aliens who created the planet and saved TJ's baby are the ascended crew of the Destiny. Even though they no longer have bodies they're still interested in the ship and keeping an eye on it. Separate from both the ascended of the Milky Way and the Orii, they don't have a strict hands off policy. Rush's hallucination is actually one of them interacting with him to try to understand what he's doing.
The new aliens are refugees from a war with the first aliens. The first aliens were trying to use Destiny to find the new aliens after they "hitched a ride" on the seed ship. The seed ship experienced a system failure because of the new guys have done something to it. They'll now learn English from Telford, fix the ship, and catch up to the Destiny. Possibly using a stargate to board her. If not actually proto-Asgard, they will fulfill a similar role as the Asgard in SGU, serving as mentors and advisors.

Honestly the most disapointing thing about this last episode was that they had created the perfect golden opprotunity to "fix" the show and passed it by.
This could have allowed them to off load the wasted meat of the passengers that dont need to be there, and bring on people actually skilled to do the jobs they need. As well as to get rid of the dead weight from the lucians, since it looks like only 1-2 of them are really going to have a plot point of being there at all anyway.
It would have allowed them to get more supplies and machines so were not always counting bullets I mean seriously at the end of this episode they could have had destiny really ready to have been the research experiment it was ment to be and brought on new casts, ditched the idiots like Chloe and the Mulan chick. Sent home the girl friends like TJ that are just going to be whinny characters now. Gotten real doctors on board, real soldier, real scientist to unlock destiny. And could have had the crew find out that Rush had control of the ship and had unlocked the bridge.
This could have been the jump point to really have made the show something that could continue forward and been more intresting.

They could have sent people home but they couldn't have put a proper crew on board. As I was reminded when I said it just took a ZPM to dial Destiny, it actually took a lot more energy than that and there seems to be a shortage of places where that much energy is readily available.

Get the right people on the Destiny and it turns into nothing more than another version of SG: Atlantis.
The concept of the show isn't flawed, it's the writing that sucks.
Here is a still image of the alien if anyone is interested.
Gateworld posted it along with an article pointing out that SGU saw a 14% rebound in viewership after a low start on the new night. The season started with 1.175 million followed by 1.07 million while Canada had relatively normal ratings so far. This episode came in at 1.222 million compared to the previous weeks.
On a side note... the special effects they used for these aliens are *much* better than what they used for the aliens that captured Rush and The Regenerator™.
This. And even if they did swap out the crews it would have defeated the basic concept of the show. That being what happens when the wrong people are in the wrong place at the wrong time and how they deal with circumstances beyond their control.

For instance, Eli isnt really supose to be there, but i wouldnt want to see him leave. TJ though i think has run her course. We already know her and Young have a past and the whole losing the baby thing, frankly i think getting her off the show would have been a good idea.
We sit back and talk about things like the amount of resourced needed to support that many people, how the ammo will hold out, etc, how often they are going to have to fall back on the "Stones" as a means to get someone on destiny that isnt. The problem with the show now isnt IMO that they have the wrong people anymore, or how they deal. They dont make them deal. True interaction and relationships are only going to be able to be shown between so many people. The rest are just baggage. It will become tiresome after awhile to always have to have doctors coming on board via the stones, or xenobilologists etc. So this plot in this episode gave them the ability to not only cut down on some of that, but to give an opening that could have limited use to be able to fix things as they arise.
For instance lets imagine that SyFy leaves this show running for a while like SG1 and actor decide they wish to leave the show. Sure you can kill them off, leave them behind on a ship full of midget aliens to be resolved later. But first how many times can you do that. And second as they get a more solid footing of the purpose of each cast members character what do you do to replace them? Having this type of device open to them helps to possibly solve issues down the road without having to make your audience groan that yet again and again they have to bend rules and find ways around the series own self imposed limitations. Im saying they could have fixed a few issues now, and left themselves an out to use later if needed.
Im not saying that you make every single aspect of the mission fixed. What i am saying is that they could have removed alot of the sidelined aspects to the show that we have already gotten tired of or they just feel the need to waste time on fixing.

And exactly what personnel issues could they have fixed? Stargate Command can't send replacements or supplies to them. Or do you think the SGC is going to conveniently find a constant supply of uninhabited planets in the Milky Way that have a naquadria core that they can blow up each time they want to establish a wormhole to the Destiny.
Oh hey! Maybe the SGC can ask Galactic President Zaphod Beeblebrox if his buddies at Magrathea can build them a planet with a naquadria core.
So even if they get rid of the dead weight they'll still be forced to constantly rely on the stones, and instead of watching TJ and Chloe stumble thru poorly written stories we'll get to watch some of the other minor characters take their place and stumble thru the poorly written scripts. Maybe it'll be that guy and the cute redhead from the Lucien Alliance. He can take TJ's place and she can sleep with Lt. Loser.

I personally dont care for the whole idea of the stones, i would rather they have a crew that was compitent to begin with. I also dont want to see episodes all the time dealing with needing to find food or water, or eventually having no weapon resources etc. I like seeing conflicts like Young and Rush but i think Camilla's and chloe have run their course and i would like to see them get off the ship. I guess what i feel is like if they solve all the really "gilligan's island" kinda issues with the show then they can concentrate on writing a great show with real stories beyond how they fail to "get off the island" this week.
If anyone is interested, the promo shots for the next episode have been released and io9 has them in this gallery. Syfy also has a sneak peak of the episode showing Chloe working on a console in some sort of trance then Eli and Scott talking about her odd behavior.. We all know Chloe has been healing at a rapid rate and it looks like it starts affecting her mentally in the next episode.

The Camille/Chloe/TJ thing can be solved with an airlock. They even have excuses for it. TJ's depressed and isn't talking about what happened to her baby. Chloe is mutating, and Camille is depressed that she'll never see her significant other again. Tho personally I'd love to see Camille use the stones and come back to find that the person she swapped with hopped in the sack with Sgt Greer. Even better is she returned to find herself in bed with Greer during the finish of the dirty deed.
Regarding Telford, Lou Diamond Phillips couldn't officially say anything about his fate but he did have this to say.
Guys, you know I can't tweet spoilers about Telford's fate & his future w the aliens!...BTW the weather here in Vancouver has been great! |
Then again, we already pretty much knew that Telford would be back at some point. That just means he makes his appearance sometime in the second half at the latest.
Once again we have someone getting left behind but this time on a stargate seeder ship with some new aliens that don't speak English. I wonder how long it will be till they get Telford back onto Destiny. Oh, and there was another musical montage to finish off the episode. Next week we will get more info on why Chloe is suddenly regenerating at an extremely high rate.
