10k

Those of you who know me know that I have been steadily trying to lose weight for the last 18 months. I have lost 93 pounds in that time and am closing in on my goal of 100 pounds (from 256 - 156).

This Saturday I ran my first 10K (6.2 miles). I set a goal of 65 minutes, and beat it with 62:59, so I was pretty happy.

On November 7th I will run my first 1/2 Marathon (13.1 miles), with a time goal in mind of 2:30:00.

And from doing my first 5k in a dismal 50 minutes, you rock! But, now I do a 5k every friday and keep shaving the time down each week. (40lbs down in 4 months but slowing)

Next Sunday (11/7) is the 1/2 Marathon, so in preparation I found one more semi-local distance run on Halloween day. In Salem, MA. of all places.

It was AWESOME, 1300 runners (most in costumes), running 6.66 miles (The race was called the devil's chase) on Halloween day in the city where they celebrate Halloween the hardest!

I ran it in 64 minutes (official times are still to be posted), and am now officially in my 'taper' for the big run next Sunday.

I did it, I finished! It was tough, and the pain kicked in around mile 11, but I finished and beat my goal of 2:30 with an official time of 2:21:08.

Next is down into the basement for the winter (stupid N.E. weather is too icy to run outside and risk injury). I'm going to work on getting faster, I'd like to be able to get to 9:00 miles sustained over a 10k and then work the distance back up.

It would be great to run a couple 1/2 marathons next year and try to get sub 2:00.
