This has happened once before, this time however I was actually able to capture the error. Seems there is something happening randomly around 3 AM that is crashing MySQL so badly it can't recover (Doesn't impact data just means you can't view the site). I've got the error and I'm research it to see if there is a readily available fix.

So I am working on it, site is now back up.

Also! If you guys happened to catch anything happening while I am probably asleep (EST person here) toss me a message on Twitter at either @Ransim or @VirtueVerse. That way I'll see it as the very first thing in the morning.

Update

We got bit in the rear by a MySQL bug, its going to require me to restore the databases for both Union and Virtue. No worries though no data was lost, the sites are still intact! The issue lies not in the data itself but in a file that supports the data.

Unfortunately I can't just replace that file. I needed to stop the web servers to keep the load on the server low while I make backups and do what needs to happen to fix this issue.

I'm very sorry for the extended down time! You guys will have to go without your VV fix until later tonight or tomorrow.

Alright! Home stretch!

MySQL is back up, and running properly, and the sites should be unlocked for editing in about an hour, I'm running some tests right now.

I'm sorry for the extended downtime, but I wanted to take my time and make sure this was done properly the first time to avoid larger issues down the line.

Lessons learned? Whoever designed InnoDB transaction processing needs to die in a fire.

Absolutely no data was lost, and I need everyone to be vigilante and report any errors to me that you experience. The first 48 hours are going to be critical in catching anything that might be amiss.

Thank you so much for all that you do for VV. The site's been a lot better than the previous one and I can do a lot more here.

Good new site i have one question i reimagined cien fuego recently but cannot for the life of me change the cienfuegos.jpg blue box on right side
any chance anyone can help or just erase it and teach me to make a new blue box?

Blue box?

You mean the HeroBox? The one that should have an image and your character details?

If you want to modify it change the content in the code below. If you want to remove it then remove the code below completely:

Virtueverse Maintenance

We'll be performing Maintenance on VirtueVerse this weekend. Maintenance will be performed to upgrade a few server services and will last for several hours. The site will be locked or unavailable for the duration of the maintenance. Start and end of the maintenance period will be announced on the VirtueVerse twitter account.

Target time for the maintenance will be later evening hours on Friday or Saturday.

Feature Articles

A new round of feature articles should be posted sometime this week.

Maintenance unfortunately did not happen this weekend and has been postponed to tonight. So please expect some downtime this evening while I perform the needed site upgrades.

(Pre-PAX insanity ruled my weekend sorry!)

And its been postponed again, I can't make changes tonight because of some changes the host is making. -_- really want to do this before I go to PAX but the fates are working against me.

In hopes of being somewhat productive I've created an in game global channel for the site. Users are welcome to join, the channel is OOC for discussion about VirtueVerse and RP.

The channel is public and open to all, please keep it civil.

Looking for some more people to participate in a conversation about how the global server merge might impact VirtueVerse and UnionVerse wikis.

This is not a discussion about merging content or about IC impacts of the global server merge. Its instead a conversation about some technical issues or desired items that the server merge might make necessary.

Such as a shared user database, easy cross wiki linking (which already exists but has not been announced) and content sharing for things like images.

Sorry if this has been addressed, I haven't updated my VV page in forever. I was going to make some changes to it today and when I tried to log in, I couldn't. It gave me an option to make a new account, but said I needed to have cookies enabled to be able to log in.

I'm fairly certain I have cookies enabled on this computer, so I'm not sure what the problem is. If anyone else has had this issue, please let me know how you resolved it. I'm on Windows XP on this computer if that means anything.

First I will say if you haven't edited your pages since October of last year your account may not exist anymore, this is most likely why you couldn't log in. The whole site was migrated to a new server last year as is mentioned in the OP of this thread, accounts were not migrated only content pages. Feel free to recreate your account with the same username. Your user page and content should still be fine. I'd also read over the OP as it goes into some of the new features on the site.

Secondly the message "You must have cookies enabled to log in to Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe." appears for everyone. Its just a friendly reminder not an actual error warning. So long as you can log in once you've created your account and you see your username in the top right you're good to go.

Hey Ransim, is it possible to delete pages at all or am I just being blind and missing the option to do so?

...and I've just realised how suspicious this looks coming from an entirely new forum account, haha.

Full deletions can only be done by sysops. So you'll just want to add:

[[Category: Deletion Request]]

To the page/images/category etc you want to have deleted.

And no worries we try to check ownership versus the request on the site itself.

Excellent, thanks - I'll tweak the pages as needed. Due to a rather convoluted set of events I lost my primary COX account, and figured I may as well go with a clean break on this.
