How are people handling the off-market PVP sales?

I see a lot of people buying and selling PVP recipes on this forum. I'm curious how this is handled. Are you only selling to people on the same server so that you can use the trade window? If not, is one party being very trusting that the other party will send the recipe or money? Or perhaps a third party you both trust acts as an escrow?

I guess you generally transfer 2billion or the PvP IO to a character on the server where the other person is, then you trade the 2billion for the PvP IO and then whatever else was promised to be paid. At worst, you'll get 2 billion for the 3% Def IO (200mil more than the highest possible from market), and if you're trading with an honest person you can get more than 3billion.

So no overseas business is being done? Europeans and Americans aren't really buying and selling off-market PVPs with each other, I guess?

As far as I know there is no way to do an off-market trade between a EU and a US player.

Can't they mail each other?

I'm 99.9% certain you can't. Because the US and EU operate off of different servers, you could have two accounts with the same global chat handle.

Oh I see. I thought you could since we share a chat server. That's too bad. I was entertaining the idea of saving up purple merits for a couple months and selling off a PVP recipe, but I'm in Europe and it seems the buyers are mainly in the US. Scrap that idea then.

Thanks a bunch for your help, Sorrow.

I'm pretty sure that the only server that's shared between the Euro and US servers is the market server. I could be wrong though.

Don't know the situation for EU/US, but when I sold my Glad Armor +3%,
the buyer gleemailed me 3 installments (which I claimed with various toons
right away).

Once I did that, I gleemailed the shiny to him/her and confirmed they got it.

Is trust involved? - yes, definitely.

That said, the transaction(s) went without a hitch and we had a happy
buyer and seller.

Okay, I gave it a go. I tried sending an energy weapon and 10 inf to @StarGeek, since that seemed to be the only person in this thread who was American and advertised their global. It bounced right back to me. Anyone else is welcome to give it a try if they like.

The safest way to do so that I can think of is as follows:

This scenario assumes a selling price of 3 billion, but could work with larger amounts

Meet on the same server (use gleemail to get the money/items to mules on that server if necessary).

The seller brings the PvP IO being offered for sale, as well as 9 or fewer other enhancements worth 2 billion (not too difficult with purple prices the way they are right now)

Use the trade window and make the following trades:

1. Seller gives buyer 1 billion inf worth of recipes/enhancements, buyer gives seller 1 billion inf (actually 999,999,999, but who cares about that 1)
2. Seller gives buyer 1 billion inf worth of recpies/enhancements again, buyer gives seller 1 billion inf again.
3. Seller gives buyer PvP IO, buyer gives seller 1 billion inf and all the recipes/enhancements that were previously given to him by seller.

You could also simply have the buyer pay the seller with 1 billion inf and 2 billion inf worth of other recipes/enhancements if both parties agree to that.

Either way, no trust is involved here, since at each stage of the trading, both parties are trading goods of equal value, so they can't rip each other off.

Interesting, but that requires both parties to be on the same server. Since most interested parties wouldn't be on my server I have to use global email to move the item. I'll send the item off after getting the first billion via email and then just trust that the person will give me the rest, and that's worked so far (but I've been careful when choosing who I sell to). I figure if I get ripped off, I at least still have a billion inf I wouldn't have had before.

STEP 0. Buyer makes an alt on the seller's server.

1. see above

2. see above

3. see above

4. Buyer uses global e-mail to move their new item from buyer's new alt to buyer's toon that wants it. Buyer is responsible for not making typo in their own global e-mail address.

Is adding steps 0 and 4 more hassle? Of course, but if someone's got three billion INF laying around they've probably made an alt or two before. It's not like making a new toon is as complicated as neurosurgery.
Is adding steps 0 and 4 worth it to people who are worried about getting ripped off? Yeah, more than likely.

I've never had to go through the hassle. People send me money.. I send the IO. Haven't had any problems so far.

Same here, before I could even ask my buyer how he wanted to do the exchange I had 2 emails with 1 bil in each so I just sent along my via email and confirmed he got it. To be fair though I do have a "name to protect" so with some of the more vocal forum people I think your less likely to be riped off.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. But I'm not a forum star, so I don't see why anyone would trust me since I haven't built up a reputation to protect.
