Trip Mine? More like Tip Mine, am I right!?

I finally found a way to get tips hero-side that isn't mind-numbingly tedious.

I'm only using that character for Hero Merits right now. Why waste the time doing missions when I can nuke zombies instead?

Hey, Guy'.

Wasn't it more common knowledge that you can hunt things at any level for tips so long as their combat level is 20 or higher? o_o;;

Although I was pleasantly surprised, too, when I found that out from Tidbit. In fact, to paraphrase:

Quote:
[Tell] Tidbit: yay, got my first tip
[Tell] Tidbit Jr.: gratz
[Tell] Tidbit: yeah, much easier hunting greys
[Tell] Tidbit Jr.: ... cheater.
[Tell] Tidbit: Economist.
[Tell] Tidbit Jr.: Touché, father. Touché.

Yeah, my character's 50 and he's toe-bombing Banished Pantheon in Dark Astoria. Trip Mine deals with entire spawns.

Villainside, my method is happily going after Scrapyard's followers...

"Oh look, nice gimongous mob..."
(My mastermind throws Oil Slick, Glue Arrow, then sets the Oil Slick on fire)
"Well that was quick..."

Heroside, I head into Terra Volta, land in the middle of a large mob of Sky Raiders, flatten the mob, and voila, tips!

You hunt greys and rely on a 6-minute, 24-second activation power to do it? Don't you have, like... AoEs? I suppose you could have brought in a level 50 Corruptor, but on the high chance that this is a Blaster, it seems like a rather poor way to hunt stuff, like taking a Regen Scrapper and using Self Destruct and Revive.

Sounds like you have trip mine and time bomb mixed up.

You clearly don't understand fun.

Although I could be wrong, given that your suggestion sounds like a lot of it.

In fact, brb

Yeah, I think I did. I've been doing that pretty much since I got into the game, and I don't know why...

If "fun" involves waiting around like a doofus, then no, I clearly don't understand fun. I'd rather take the boredom of Aim + Build Up + Nova or Aim + Build Up + Fireball + Fire Breath or Aim + Build Up + Frost Breath + Freezing Rain or, hell, Aim + Build Up + anything. Time Bomb is one of the slowest, least impressive ways to kill things thanks to how overbalanced it is, and that's from someone who took, slotted and still uses Time Bomb with great regularity. It's a slower, more complicated, least visually impressive way to achieve what almost any other Blaster can achieve.

I love those Zombie guys. My mid-20s Broadsword/Fire Armour scrapper just eats them alive. Went from 27 to 28 last night in an hour slaughtering them (yay, shiney new Burn)

Then I went and rolled the 50 merits I'd earned from my first Hero Morality mission (along with those I'd earned in Praetoria) and got a Luck of the Gambler +recharge, a Makos Bite Damage/Recharge and a Ghost Widow triple.

And by slaughtering zombies for an hour it turned out the Deific Weapon and Enchanted Impervium I needed for crafting the LOTG and the Makos had been donated by some luckless zombie and I hadn't noticed!

Last night was a good night

Still no idea what to do with the LOTG though. Probably give it to my Widow (every good drop I've earned like the Steadfast unique and the Miracle unique are being channeled to her. Gleemail rocks)

I run one paper or radio and they begin to fall...are peeps having a hard time getting them to drop?

I've never understood or experienced the idea that getting Tips is a long, tedious thing to do. *shrugs*

Whenever I want a Tip I just street-sweep for level 20+ bosses. It's never taken me more than about 5 minutes from the time I start hunting to the time I have my first Tip. Often it only takes one or two bosses tops. I've done this reliably at least 30 times on both red and blue sides.

Better luck to those having trouble with this...

This.

GO. HUNT. KIL. BOSS(es).

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

In general, no. Like in Talos, I can barely move in that zone without have a tip fall from some gray. The one time I had trouble was recently in IP. An STF was forming and I had about 15 min to kill. So I hunted around Stateman's ship. Not a single tip dropped. Run the first STF mission, and filled up on tips. For me, going to avoid IP from now on for tips lol!

My favorite way now for red side my corr. I went to Shark and was about to street sweep when I saw the GM and a long line of mobs behind him. I dropped a coupleof AOEs in the line and a few seconds later, 3 tips filled. Easiest it has been for me so far.

I buy those with my Villain Merits and then steal money from some min/maxer on the market.

The Random Number God and I aren't exactly on speaking terms. My first thought was to go pick off Prisoner bosses in Brickstown, and my chat log later showed that it took 37 of those before I got a tip. So I went to Dark Astoria and started killing zombies, but for all my trouble and, again according to the chat log, 184 random minions later, I didn't think that was my cup of tea either.

I wound up in Moth Cemetery due to the abundance of bosses, and the big, tightly-packed groups are always nice for a well placed Tip Mine. Nowadays, tips take in the order of 30 seconds each.

Meanwhile, in Sharkhead Isle, it's not unusual for me to get tips off of three consecutive enemies:

Prisoners reward one rank less than their display. That's your problem. Prisoner bosses are Lts. for all intents and purposes. Had you been fighting real bosses, I doubt you would have needed to fight so many.

As you show in your image, fighting real bosses is like magic for tips.

Whatever works.

I just feel sorry for the people who apparently waste "serious" time waiting for Tips to drop. By the time I have the first one and go start running it I get the rest of the Tips I need for the day just from what comes inside the subsequent Tip missions.

YMMV.
