Orbital Lance Temp Power

sign me up!
was awesome when they tried to level my tank
i summarily smashed it to bits but still.
WANT THIS POWER!
I keep thinking this should be the nuke of the theoretical Pulse Rifle (Mastermind variant) powerset that gets tossed around from time to time.

For the sheer awesomeness, yes.
For the number of times some dimwit would use it in roleplay, please no.

Alpha has a list of very good reasons why he uses Reason once in a blue moon

Hey!
Alpha has a list of very good reasons why he uses Reason once in a blue moon |
One has to remember the thing about RP: if you've thought of it, another roleplayer or the whole setting has probably realistically thought of it once before.

A Praetorian Warburg weapon. Maybe introduced as a component of the high-level of PRaetoria we'll eventually see.
It might also make the game a bit easier for some of the stupendously hard EB fights in Praetoria, especially once they get difficulty-changers.
Wait, where do you encounter this enemy and this power?
I want this on my Bots/Traps MM though! He has a freaking Orbital Railcannon that needs using! (Other than Warburg nukes which stand in for now)
|
But again - I want this as a regular nuke for a regular Blast set, because if we DO make a Pulse Rifle Blast set, there's no better nuke for it

Ah, I need to replay those then. If they're having me get shot at by space stations rather than looking for three glowies on a big outdoor map, should certainly be worth redoing.
So very Signed.
It could be the power in the Tech 2 Super Booster, if we are indeed getting a second Origin cycle.
NPCs: A Single Method to Greatly Expand Bases
It's a boss of the Imperial Defense Force. You meet them in the level 40-45 and 45-50 arcs in PI where you fight Praetorians. I'm drawing a blank on the full names of the contacts, but Tina and Maria. I think the arc names in Ouroborus are "The Instant Army" and "A Hero's Epic".

My poor, poor Shivan...
Were it not for the problem of giving Masterminds powerful attacks, I would agree. I can certainly see why you'd want it as a temp power, and I... Guess I could see it as obtainable via a semi-rare activity.
But again - I want this as a regular nuke for a regular Blast set, because if we DO make a Pulse Rifle Blast set, there's no better nuke for it |
Also, sad face; Orbital Lance does not scale generously on tankers

Well...there is. FinalFantasy Tactics Advance Famfrit style 'Uber energy beam' blast, direct from the gun. If you think Dual Pistols bulelt curving is daft, just how little sense does firing a laser up to come down make? Shoot a GIANT smegging laser at them in the face.
|
The bigass laser is a cool idea, but I tend to have a problem with these unless they're very well done. The bigger you make a laser beam, the more scattered it looks, especially if it comes out of a small rifle. I could see a big-ish laser beam being used as as kind of Piercing Rounds knockoff, but a laser from space making a huge explosion, Ion Cannon style would just make my day

I more meant an actual orbital laser coming down from space, with you just using a targeting laser like what they had in Tribes 2. If Robotics Masterminds can seem to have a space ship to airdrop Drones and tunnels everywhere to deliver Protector Bots, why can't all Pulse Rifle Blasters have an orbiting death ray?

Hmn....Hand-held laser is plausible...Ion Cannon looks more badass.
Sam wins this one, methinks.

Well that Certain Other MMO had both types of Orbital bombardment.
Without the specific advantage it acted like the Ion Cannon, a massive blast of damage. However WITH the advantage it turned it into a...well..the advantage was called Anvil of Dawn (guess which game that's from).
It was probably THE most awesome power in the entire game, I regularly used it in PvP purely for the fact it did terrify people and you'd see them running from this huge column of laser death.

So I was fighting a War Walker and it decided to try to nuke me from orbit, the only way to be sure. Hilarity ensued, but in the end I could only think of one thing: "I want that power!"
It's Extreme Damage, yes, but it also has a charge time and the targeted area is very noticeable. It's powerful, but depending on recharge and end cost, it shouldn't be broken. Make it a rare recipe drop, maybe you need to complete a mission for it, or it could even be part of the Incarnate system. I'm not picky. All I want is the ability to smite my foes with friggin' lasers from space. Is that too much to ask?
That and it'll be the most overkill way of lighting an Oil Slick ever.
