IS ARIASAIR THE NEW OCEANIC AIRLINES?

So far, so confused

So "They"?

Gotta be aliens, people from the future, or people from an alternate dimension...from Fringe!

I think Aliens is too obvious... I'm going with People From The Future And/Or Other Dimension.

I like that the 97 prisoners had their own research lab. That place is like Gitmo for mad scientists except they have a work-release program or something.

I see potential problems with each possibility:

Aliens - too obvious and done often
Future Folk - would tie into "The Event" as they probably know about and hope to avoid(?) it. However, may be too similar to FlashForward from last season in terms of plotlines if the show starts revolve around "Can we change the future? We must change the future! We can't change the future!"
Alt Dimension Dudes - Would probably be like Fringe, but on a more massive scale...but still it would be like Fringe (which is a great show, but if The Event is "copying" that, that spells bad news in terms of garnering its own audience)

Saw it. Liked it. Of course I'm now left with a dozen questions. Looking forward to more.

Hehe, I know the aliens possibility is cliche and done already... but deep down, I'm surprisingly wishing it is aliens. ^_^;

Oh and another possibility, maybe "they" could be superpowered beings? Meta-humans being held as prisoners?

I'm going with Punxsutawney Phil.

If that means Bill Murray shows up as a villain, I'm all for it!

I'm also guessing time travelers.

Girlfriend and her family were kidnapped to force the father to fly the plane and target the prez.

Some reason it reminds me of a James P Hogan novel The Proteus Operation. Oh fudge, he died this June. I loved a lot of his early novels.

Next question is whether or not opening up a warp over Miami has anything to do with the Bermuda Triangle, Miami being one of the corners of the triangle.

Hated this show for two reasons.

One, every character looked the same. They're all early thirty-somethings with great skin and hair. Even the president and all his advisors. They couldn't cast a single believably middle-aged person? It's like West Wing 90210.

But second and worse, they cut the narrative back and forth in time every two minutes. If I glanced away from the TV and back again, I didn't know if the story was in the past or the present. It's a horrible directing choice and the scriptwriter should be slapped.

I suspect that the narrative bouncing back and forth will become a signature of the series, and for that reason the secret will be all about time travel. I won't be watching it again to find out, though.

I'm thinking alternate dimension people, although the jumping back and forth with the narrative would be a nice hint towards time travelers.

I've always like John Ritters son as an actor, good to see his legacy still going.

My initial thoughts, "You took 97 of ours, now we'll take 97 of yours."- kind of stand off.

I like it, has potential.

Burmuda Triangle connection + Area 51-like detention/research facility + human looking prisoners = first (accidental) and now second (much more public) contact with the Lost City of Atlantis civilization?

This is a decent fourth possibility, but of course NBC just came off "Heroes" and there's that No Ordinary Family coming out. I doubt the writers want to go back to that well already.

That's a good theory and may explain why they are being held in a snowy mountain prison. (If they are somehow "special" and if it has to do with the ocean)

I'm hoping the narrative jumping won't be quite so all over the place in future episodes, but so far I'm not really on board with the show in general. It shares the overall problem that many conspiracy movies/shows make, too much reliance on the "technology is magic" facade and "anything can be hacked". Not being able to stop the plane, hacking a cruise ship's computer and removing all evidence... Just snapped my disbelief suspenders a bit too hard.

I'll catch the next ep, though. I need something to bridge the hour between Chuck and Castle.

Who says it was hacked? If you're a shadowy organization with unlimited funds, you bribe everyone involved and they purge the database normally. After all, they already had to hire two actors to play the couple who "really" had the room.

As far as the fighters, well, maybe whoever teleported the plane also prevented the fighters from shooting it down.

And The Event is in Heroes' old time slot!

Honestly? I thought it was crap. I'll be surprised if it goes beyond one season.

Could you elaborate on why you thought it was "crap"?

The problem with hacking cruise line computers or bribing everyone involved is that I can't buy into the fact that no employee would admit interacting with the boyfriend and it couldn't be resolved via security cameras. The human interaction and sudden isolation just kills it. I have this issue with most TV shows and movies that try to play the massive conspiracy angle. Even "The Game", as much as I liked the movie, really tweaked me in that respect. The only plausible explanations for this particular show that I'd be satisfied with would be that The Event also altered time so that he really didn't have a room or if it does get resolved in the next episode by showing the steward, security guard and guy in the room being part of a limited number of people who were in on it.

Again, that's some really fine-controlled work there. Unless someone deliberately sabotaged the fighter jets before they took off but after a general inspection.

YMMV as to how much or little this may bother you, but, for me, giant conspiracy plots in general are hard for me to get into. I pick the little holes to death.

The prison location makes sense if you are dealing with a bunch of people from a group capable of opening portals to somewhere/when. It appears that the only way in or out is by air, the environment and terrain is hostile making escape less likely or an incursion more controllable. Want to bet there's a low yield nuke or a MOAB self destruct system in place?

Going have to rewatch it now that I have a grok on the time line. All the time hopping and POV changes of the same events was annoying.

Is it possible our "hero" bamfed the plane?

OK, lets say there are two groups. One who want the detainees held and are willing to kill anybody to keep it that way and one who is looking to get them released.

It's possible that the 2nd group indirectly or directly caused the air traffic system and fighter to malfunction as a result of preparing to fetch the plane.

The plane was meant to scare or kill the President so that he cannot publicize/release the prisoners. They were probably the ones who prevented the fighters from taking down the plane (if the plane is destroyed, President Underwood would probably still go forward)

The plane being transported away is probably the second group who wants it public knowledge.
