It seems that atlas park on freedom is down atm. Every try to login a char in that zone ends with a "Lost Connection to DBserver" error. All other chars on freedom work without a problem....

That's when I started having random infinite ping that even affected the server-bound npcs, so it's the server and not my end.
It's also when the server status page froze so it now says last updated on 9/07/2010.
I'm thinking they messed something up seriously back then that broke the server status update link as well.

You should be nice to the DB server. The DB server can eat your characters on a whim. Do not taunt happy fun DB server.
Was on Virtue doing a villain morality mission and it was acting screwy... mob movement and behavior, chat string errors, objectives self completing or moving... huge lag spikes, but I finally slogged through it. Exited the mission and dropped an Oro portal and *poof*. Tried to log back in, got to Virtue, said that character was still logging out... 5 minutes later :P After that, no access at all.
