Confusion About Selling

I'm a little confused about selling items. If I sell an item for 1 inf, and there are two people bidding 2k and 3k for the item, do I sell it for 2k or 3k? I can't figure it out from the guides.

In that instance you sell it for 3k.

Highest bidder always wins. Lowest seller always wins.

As Dersk mentioned, the market matches the Highest Bidder to the Lowest Seller.
As long as that match produces a bid higher than the selling price, a transaction
occurs, so in your example, the 3K bid gets the goodies.

In cases where there are "ties" for the buyer, there's a pseudo-random
process for deciding who gets the buy - for instance, if there had been 3
players all bidding 3K, which one gets it?

In that case there is a random (but consistent) order to award the sale.

I'd presume the same is true from the listing standpoint (ie. 3 guys listing for 1 inf)
but the basic rule of thumb is Highest Bid matches against Lowest List with
a pseudo-random process to decide ties.

That's the reason i list 99% of my stuff for 222. It sells fast, and im off to get more goodies. I really wish i had to patience to craft them though, i'd make soooo much more. lol. Wife crafted hers and made about 200mil where i would have made like 20mil just for the recipes. I called her ebil and she laffed. lol.

List it for 221 it will sell faster. Lots of people are so lazy they type one number over and over. so you see bids for 1111111 instead of 1 million. If you bid 1111112 you'll buy and they lose. if you sell for 1111110 you'll sell and they will lose.

So list yours for 221.

Which is mildly annoying.

When I bid for multiple stacks of ten, they fill a little off of one stack and little off of another instead of clearing out each bid one by one. So I have to go back in and clear out all bids that are now for less than 10 items and then re-list with a full bid for 10 items.

What I do is i try and guess what the psychological break points are. I mean, I do some bid creeping on expensive items, but I am not going to creep in 1inf increments when the going price is around 100mil.

So what I do when I list is decide what the 'going price' is and then list for one bid creep increment (whatever I decide that is) less than the going price + plus 99.

For example, if I think the going price for an item is 100mil, I might list it for 90,000,099 if I think that the bid creep increment is 10mil. That way I get it in under as many other sellers as I can, but still FEEL likely to get the full 100mil from a buyer rather than having to settle for 90mil.

you can bid/list for 5908, 5909, etc. to avoid that problem.

That's bleeding brilliant, and I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it. Going to add that to my list of tips unless you object.

I considered doing this in the past, but eventually decided against it based on my own behavior as a competitor bidder. If I intend to bid on stacks of something and I see that there is already someone doing the same based on the multiple identical bids in the history, then I will set my bids to be the same price. Bidding more will just piss off the other guy and may lead to a bidding war which makes it more expensive for everyone, me in particular. Since I know that identical bids will have the wins distributed more or less randomly, I can be confident that I will get a share without being obvious that I'm cutting into the other guy's turf. That being said, if I had set up staggered bids, I'll be short changing myself if the other guy's bids never runs out at that particular price, ie if he refreshes his bids each day.
