According to Production Weekly, Marvel Studios is now planning to start production on the film adaptation of “Runaways” on March 2011. The movie will be filmed in Los Angeles and is being produced under the fake production title of “Small Faces”, reports SlashFilm.

Based on the award-winning comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan, Runaways tells the story of a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are actually supervillains called The Pride. The teens run away from their homes, band together and begin a journey to discover their parents’ origins and their own inherited powers, while trying to make up for the evil done by their parents.

No cast members have been announced yet, but a casting call has been released last month, so we should be hearing something soon. Drew Pearce, known for the UK superhero TV series No Heroics, is reported to be writing the film adaptation, while Peter Sollet will be directing.

This sounds interesting. I haven't read the comic book series, but I have heard some good things about it. Will be looking forward to this as well.

This.

Just as long as they have Chase be his volume 1 self, and not the way he was just before it was cancelled.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

You really should pick up the first hardcover volume. It's a great buy.

Vaughan's run on the series is one of my all time favorites but I could see this being a terrible film...if Hollywood gears this film towards a teenage audience, which obviously, due to the subject matter they will, and they assume (mostly correctly) that the American teenage moviegoer is utterly retarded, then yeah, this will be pretty bad.

No way to tell really till the film is released but I'm not getting my hopes up. In fact, I'll be setting my expectations ridiculously low. Which is a shame, because I love the characters. Although at least if they make a bad film they probably won't have my favorite Runaway Victor in it so they won't be able to ruin him.

I'll be interested if it sticks to the atmosphere of the first arc or two and makes sure to show how awesome Gert is.

Aw, who am I kidding. They'll probably just focus on the stupid goth chick.

Hmm. I'd need to see some casting.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

I was hoping this would be a TV series on Showtime or HBO. This is not a happy fun loving story.

Gert needs to be strong and done well, true, but the thing that worries me more than Niko (the goth chick) taking the lead is that they might play MOLLY wrong. She was the breakout character for me in the comics.

Yes, but I don't have an unhealthy fixation on Alex.

Wait, I mean.... um....

I think the biggest hurdle for this film is finding quality actors that are the right ages for the parts.

I love the runaways, but would prefer a young avengers movie, but thats kind of hard to do without the avengers getting done first!

The first few arcs were amazing, pretty much the Vaughn stuff. By the end it was a mess and I was glad it got taken out back and put out of its misery. At least I hope its been taken out back and put out of its misery...

Since the first movie would be an origin story anyway, it shouldn't be horrible, depending on casting.

I just hated the ending.

(spoilers)

Okay, so supersmart kid got everyone right where he wants them, played everyone like chumps, got every angle accounted for, nobody saw it coming, etc etc etc...

Then, plan over.

Um, wait, what?

Not the first time a supersmart guy got beat by suddenly becoming dumb for no reason, but it a was a pretty big letdown after such a good twist.

The Runaways had some of my favorite new characters in a marvel series in along time. The early stories were fantastic then it lost its way a bit but there is still so much potential there for a writer with the right touch. I really wish they would cut some of the bajillion Spiderman/Wolverine/Deadpool series and give stuff like Runaways and Doc Voodoo a chance to grow with some decent support and writers.

Movie wise, if they don't try and bubble gum it up for the kiddies, and keep the characters true to form, it could be an excellent movie. Given hollywood's track record I don't have much hope.
