Field Crafter

I'm working on the Field Crafter accolade (to eliminate that run from the auction house to the nearest University/Base and back). After doing a bit of reading, I concluded that I would lose horrendous amounts of inf pursuing it, but that it would be worth it in the long haul.

I find that is not the case.

Don't get me wrong; yes it will be worth it. What is surprising me is that while crafting and selling almost only generic IOs (minus those that I use, of course), I am making a ridiculous profit overall. Now, to me a ridiculous profit is a couple million inf for a stack of Gen-IOs after considering the buy-in/crafting/listing/selling costs. I usually start with no recipes on hand and none of the needed salvage, but I am still pulling in a significant haul over a buying/selling cycle, so much so that I've only got about halfway through one tier (I started with the 25-30 ones for the +Salvage) and I've already doubled my starting holdings.

This can't be normal. Can it? I assume mostly this is due to the plummet in the prices of salvage after GR hit (and boy did I stock up on Luck Charms and others, planning to flip them after the price rebounded--but ended up using some of them for crafting) but even so, people are paying huge mark-ups for the stuff I'm selling, even though I'm listing much, much lower than the going rate (in most cases). I guess that's the magic of the double-blind market.

Anyway, can I expect this to continue throughout all (or even most of) the tiers, or did I happen upon the one profitable tier at the outset?

If it continues, then by the time I've acquired the Portable Workbench I'll have enough inf to start some serious marketeering. Oooh, the joy.

Edited to add: This is on a level 26 character, starting with only the 5M inf he brought with him from redside.

I have made almost 200M Inf by routinely selling Generic IOs since picking up GR. If I were to actually expand a bit more I could probably double that so no real surpise.

Depends how patient you wanna be with your selling of the IOs you crafted. If you put them at the high end they will sell and make you profit, but typically that takes some time.

If you are like me when going for field crafter and either dump it on the market for 1 inf, delete it, or spam give them to people at the market then you will lose a good chunk of Inf(I also get everything at buy i Nao prices).

Yes it can be quite profitable if you're not in a rush. The people who get the whole accolade in a weekend are the ones paying through the nose. How profitable it is varies with the ebb and surge of demand, but aside from certain categories you just have to delete, most of them sell at a profit.

Generic IO's are more profitable than people think. They're also far less profitable than the more 'advanced' marketeering.

However, there was still enough profit in level 50 Generics for me to make 4 billion inf off them over about a year.

I recently got Field crafter on another alt, and I reckon I came out about even overall. I was in a bit of a hurry though and wasn't afraid to delete or put into SG base storage recipes that didn't look like they were going to sell any time soon.

If you've got patience though, they can provide a nice reasonably constant supply of inf.

I think it helps that I do two things: I put in mild lowball bids (often 80% of the going rate, less if i know there's a price surge on) before I log out; and when it comes to the badges where I can craft different types (like the travel-related ones) I check to see how they sell and pick the ones that perform best. For instance, I'm currently working on the travel IOs, and I found they mostly just sit there, maybe selling one or two a week for certain levels. Of them, Run Speed was the least inactive, so that's what i picked.

I don't mind deleting some that are oversaturated already, but by doing the above I can reduce the loss. The debuff IOs are the worst, so far.

I made my first billion on Fabricator. You've discovered how easy it is. Now you, too, can casually purple a warshade.

I only have two toons that have it (1 hero and 1 villain), but both of
them made a profit while getting them.

So, yeah, with a little sense, care, and patience, I'd say it is normal
to profit while earning that accolade.

Basically, plan ahead for the badge you're working towards, lowball those
bids, wait awhile for them to fill, and sell the (non-junk) shinies you craft
(I just deleted the junk ones - immob, taunt, jump etc - mind you, verify
that they are junk first, of course - things change)

It won't be fast that way, but it should be pretty lucrative (at least, it
was when I did it way back when - I've no reason to doubt it works still)

I just started this on an a toon and pretty much you can make money if you are patient and have a few 11 level plus mules to sell the things. Heck, I even sold some Fear enhancements
