Finding Black Swan

I'm doing Maria Jenkins' new arc, and am having trouble with the mission where you battle Black Swan and find clues. I pretty much scoured the rock you zone in on, without finding her. Then I tried flying over to other rocks. I found the Chantry, but couldn't find out how to get in.

Any ideas before I try the mission again? I spent too long in it the first time, and I hope not to spend quite as long in it the next time. Where would I find Ms. Swan?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I had exactly the same situation a couple of days ago and was ripping hair out after about an hour of searching.

Anyway I did eventually find her inside the Storm Palace. The mission objectives were to deal with the Portal, which I did by just clicking on it, and also to defeat Black Swan.

She was quickly dispatched but no end of mission stuff started.

I then saw a further new mission objective had appeared to "Discover what had happened to Statesman!" Not a clue as to what to do I then spent another hour again searching the map looking for him or his body. Nothing.

Utterly at a loss I returned inside the Storm Palace and well angry by this time started to kick around the few odd minions that were still about because they had not aggroed whilst taking down Black Swan. As I defeated the last one the end of mission stuff kicked in and I was done.

At no time was there any hint that what the last mission objective was was actually a "Defeat all inside the Storm Palace" job.

I hope you see this before you go back for a retry and that it helps save a lot of angst and time

Your information is basically correct, although to be clear, that was the Chantry, not the Storm Palace.

For entry into the Chantry, you need to fly/geyser to it and circle around the equator of the structure until you find either tunnel leading in to a glowing point of light. The light will port you into the Chantry.

As Jacktar said, the clues are not obvious. Defeat everything inside.

yeah. I just did this mish, go to the death star, defeated everything inside, then found Black Swan OUTSIDE in the tunnel circling the death star.

Also, the entire map was fogged up like DA or Loony the Mad's tunnel. Incredibly annoying.

Just did that mission last night myself. Turns out after defeating Black Swan all you have to do is defeat one more mob that spawns inside The Chantry after Black Swan goes down, you don't have to clear the entire Chantry. I got lucky and happened to be standing where the new mob spawned, that is the only reason I know this.

But I agree with je saist, it is annoying(or at least it would have been if I didn't get lucky with the spawn placement).

The whole area is an illusion created by Black Swan. The fog is annoying but it's WAI.

Well done.

*has a heart attack*

you... and... I... agreeing? What? Did hell freeze over??

anyways. I know it's Working as Intended... but I'm reminded of something I tried in AE a while back: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=2409165

Basically, my storyline basically involved having to descend into Loony the Mad's tunnel, wipe out the boss at the bottom, then move back up the tunnel and take out various devices that were now unveiled. In actual play I found that the fog mechanic of the map, even if you knew where you were going, was an incredible and painful distraction.

The over-fogging works in Loony's map on the Task Force since it's pretty much a one-way trip down the tunnel, and it's the end of the Task Force.

Outside of those play conditions, the fog is a bit too much. It's also really annoying on Black Swans's new Maria Jenkins map because of the natural shading color. The maps still seem to use the same light sources as a regular Shadow Shard map. Dark Astoria's lighting system isn't as aggressively dark, which makes leaping around Dark Astoria a tad bit easier.

Dark Astoria's lighting is also far more consistent. In the Black Swan map, if I was using superjump or fly I would get brightly oversaturated visuals combined with the deep undersaturated dark fog. Visually, Black Swan's map is a mess.

Hi Guys,

oops did I say Storm Palace, my bad Sorry.

I also agree 100% about the fog and graphics but after having a mini rant about the mish objectives I was being low key on them.

Given that the objectives are so misleading that they can have you searching for a corpse, the fog is really agravating!

Also it is very difficult to judge distances with the fog/graphics as they are, so when I did see the Chantry () I thought it was way too far off to be part of the mish map and carried on searching the plateau.

Hmm, I did this one recently and I had no issues.

Also for future reference this map is used on several missions (Nerva Arc from Naylor, Scirrocco's patron arc, at least one more I'm forgetting) on every single one of the missions, you have to go into the Chantry and kill the boss and entire spawn. Something to keep in mind for the next time they re-use it, because you know they will.

So for me, there was no mystery, As soon as I recognized the map I just found the portal then flew right to the chantry for the win.

and I loved the mist. DA is one of my favorite zones because of the mist and I had a ton of fun on this mission sneaking around in the dark.

Edit, I think it's in Alone in the Darque? Or is it not?

I like the mist too. I just think the missions should have a little more direction.

I still need help (sorry). I've flown around the Chantry multiple times, but can't find a tunnel. There are two places where the forcefield goes up higher. I thought those might be the tunnels, but no luck. There is also a rock that almost touches the Chantry, but I couldn't find any way through that.

Help :-(

I just did some searches but couldn't find anything on the wiki that was helpful image or instruction-wise. So I'll do my best to verbally describe it.

The chantry is a big death-star-like object floating in space. Around the middle is a band of forcefields with vertical columns of metal/stone splitting it.

If you have your back to the map entrance point (use a thumbtack to mark it if you need) and are facing the chantry there will be a short series of "smaller" floating rocks leading up to it like "steps". Smaller is ambiguous, each is large enough to hold two or three enemy spawns, but much smaller than the giant rock the mission starts on and you need to fly or use the geysers to jump between them, they are not connected to each other, but they are physically close.

Two vertical columns are facing these smaller rocks/steps. In between them the forcefield is an illusion, you can go right through it and you will be on a ledge full of enemies. Head immediately to your right (counterclockwise around the band). After about 25% of the circumference there will be a very dark hall off to your left. In the back of this hall is a multi-colored blob of energy floating in the air. It is colored like oil on water and is very pretty. If you click it, you will be transported inside the Chantry to a huge central room.

There are multiple spawns of enemies around the sides, a large central area with the main villain, and plenty of open space for maneuvering. In the words of the Emperor "wipe them out. All of them."

Thanks for your help! I actually stumbled into the "illusion" part of the forcefield, after a few very frustrating circuits of the "death star". I was looking for a tunnel in the rock. Mission completed!
