What if there was a magic control?Like the "card trick" emote but the cards explode on your foes?Or a hat the swallows enemies?Or a demon bunny as a pet that pops out of a huge hat?And who wouldnt want a rope that ties up freakshow?Or to turn a lost into a frog? The Magic Control powerset would be awesome!!Definitely gotta have a move I thought of calling "electric touch" kinda like the gravity power "propel" just has electricity coursing through it,and explodes on contact!!With the two main weapons that are a wand and cards. Both customizable!!Magic Control powerset would definitely be the best control powers ever!!

Magic is an origin, not a powerset.

The good thing about MOST of the powersets (with a few exceptions) is that you can make them conform to any origin you want. An origin specific powerset is a bad idea through and through. Your fire blaster could be using magic to conjure those flames, or flamethrowing gauntlets they made in a lab. Again, there are exceptions, but I think pretty much any powerset can be bent or stretched to cover more than one AT.

Although it'll never happen, I kinda like the mad conjurer image the OP's suggestion brings to mind. Bit too limited though so yeah, work with what you've got. There's enough customisation in game to do something similar. Use Wormhole for a top hat that swallows things.

I'm reminded of a former moderator of the EU boards who had an illusion controller in top hat and tailcoat who had a series of keybinds to lines such as:

"And for my next trick...!"

"I'll need a volunteer from the audience..."

"Pick a card, any card!"

Still makes me laugh.

He's not talking about Magic in that sense. He's apparently talking about Stage Magic. Like David Copperfield, Harry Anderson, Criss Angel and such.

And it could be done under multiple origins, if Bots (MM), Assault Rifle and Devices can be.

The problem with it is that it's far too specific.

You're a magician: you achieve this through a clever mutation which allows you to do some clever tricks, but you're a magician. It's very hard to get very many character concepts out of that and it would need a lot of work for something which would be FTM for 5 seconds.

Don't modern magicians go by the name 'Illusionists' now?

And it's only really narrow a concept if you make it out to be. 'Slight of Hand' is only a skill...just like 'Marksmanship' is a skill to use a gun/archery. Whatever the effects of the powers would really determine how narrow a concept we're working with...

That said, I think the proposed set sounds like a Mastermind primary...maybe called 'Stage Props' or 'Street Performers' or some other name that would sound infinitely better and capture the theme perfectly...
