Gaming pet peeves
So yeah I know this thread has potential for drama being people always have to take crap too seriously. Anyways I am going to take a long shot and try it anyways. Please keep names or specific events out of the thread.
My pet peeve is buffers who don't know how to combat buff and spam silly gather binds in team chat. |
My pet peeve is teaming with a buffer toon in a pvp zone and instead of buffing their team mate, the buffer is going Rogue on a blaster and is like "ZOMG IMMA SCOURGE U SON!!!!ONEOENO" and the teammate gets rektd.
When people call me by my RL name despite me not having introduced myself to them as such.
Minor, but rawr. Mostly because it can't be rectified without being a ****** about it.

You know I am sitting here wondering if you are talking about meh, lol. Scourge is pretty sexy. :-) That almost sounds more like something scribe would do or say though, if he ever played a buffer.

Come now, that's Copper.
People who offer to help then use game lingo to the point I have no idea what they just said or didn't say or skip about 5 basic steps.

In my first week or so on the game, I started noticing all the "Set Bonuses" appearing in toon bios. I had no idea what it was, so I asked politely on the Broadcast channel if someone could explain it to me. What I received back was along the line of this:
"They are IO sets you can get at WWs or the BM for a lot of INF, or farming PI AV mish's, try to get LoTG IOs, they are great! You can also get them doing TFs/SFs, such as LGTF, ITF, LRSF, and others!"
**insert a lot of confused blinking at my screen on that one**
Sadly, when I asked for people to clarify, as that seemed like an entirely foreign language to me, all I got was a bunch of laughing and cries of "L2P n00b!" (Which, again, caused a lot of blinking as that made no sense to me...though, I was pretty sure was an insult).
Luckily, someone (who became my first global friend, and head of my first SG) sent me a very polite tell and explained it all to me using terms I understood. He turned out to be, bar none, the most polite player I have ever met on this game. No question was too "n00bish" for him to answer for me, and he was always very polite and patient with me as I learned the ropes.
But...other pet peeves....
1) As mentioned above, people who are rude to new players: Come on, folks! We were all new to this game, and gaming in general, at one point or another. Can't you cut new players a break, and take the time to help them out? Is it so difficult to show them the courtesy that you, yourself, probably expected when you first started?
2) "l33t" Players: Yes, yes. We know that you have every purple IO set you can get your hands on. Yes, we know you have been playing that toon for so long that you have every possible badge. Yes, we know that you have been playing City of Heroes "since beta" (as if, somehow, that means I care for their unsolicited opinions). But, seriously, why do you think for a moment that anyone cares?
3) "Look at all my pets!" MMs: Wow! You have all of your pets! Good for you. Do you want a cookie? No, you don't? Then tell me, please, why on earth you think it necessary to have them out at all times...in the tailor, in the Pocket D, standing around in Atlas Park (a new issue now), and generally being completely useless and in people's way? If you are running from mission to mission, or are just stopping by a trainer/arbiter for a quick "level up," fine. But, if you are just hanging around populated areas, don't be rude and leave your unnecessary pets out and about.
4) The people who get upset because you don't like what they like: This really is piggy-backing off #3 above. The last time I mentioned, in a chat channel, that I don't like MMs who leave their pets out unnecessarily, you would have thought I had just threatened their collective mothers' lives! The hatred, flaming, and cries for me to "get over it" were everywhere. I thought we were all allowed to have our own pet peeves, and have the right to mention what we do or don't like. Do people honestly think that yelling at the player who doesn't like MM pets, or thinks Kheldians are a bad AT, or thinks ice shields are hideous is going to change their minds?
Okay..thank you for letting me vent...*steps off soapbox, and sits back down in the corner*

Oh gods, THIS! It drove me to the point of insanity when I first joined the game, and still drives me nuts now (though, to a smaller degree as I have learned the lingo).

We're old fogies, we've not had new players for some time now
I'd like to think that if someone told me I was basically speaking Greek to them I'd take the time to break it down for them though, heh.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

Maybe meowing would help.

Awesome, bro. You're being finnicky about the crap sentence I wrote at 4am and now you're being passive aggressive.

Edit: must comment on the fact that while passive aggression is a pet peeve of mine, were I to make a post saying so in this thread I'd be being passive aggressive myself.
How delightfully meta that would be. God, gives me tingles just thinking about it.
The Melee Teaming Guide for Melee Mans
Players who refuse to use almost all of their effective powers when on a team in the name of "RP'ing".
The latest jag-offs in this trend are the "whip only" masterminds. Even when on large teams where their pets would be a huge contribution...they run around with one weak **** whip power and pretend like they're helping. This one wank last night wouldnt even use his frickin secondary powers either...SERIOUSLY get a clue.
Ive seen this sad situation 5 times now since GR hit. When its hurting the team its BS.
A secondary pet peeve would be a team leader who enables that kind of behavior. On a team last night upon questioning such an offender, the offender says "F off". I even asked nicely. Next mission the team is progressing VERY slowly and getting beat down on a number of encounters so I say to the MM that he should use his pets at least when teaming and the team is faltering. Leader gets all pissy and supports the purposely gimping MM.
If you're the leader and your team is sucking ****, taking a beat down on the encounters, and theres a guy running around using essentially brawl only - when he could fire up some nicely powered pets to help out - I suggest you dump the sad little gimper / leech and get someone on the team who can actually contribute.
'Nuff said.
Over the hills and through the woods.
Here's one.

Another gaming pet peeve (which may causing some teeth-gritting by others):
Drive-by Buffers!
Okay, yes, I know you are the super-l33t force-field defender, but I don't want your force-field on me when I am standing around under Atlas RPing with my Super Group.
Yes, I know that Speed Boost is a great power. I don't need it, nor want it, when I am trying to sell recipes at Wentworth's.
Oh, and I also know that your Ice Shield is rather handy. But, I don't give a rat's a** about it when I am trying to get myself ready to compete in a costume contest.
And, finally, just because I am street sweeping does not mean I want, need, or even desire your random Adrenalin Boost!
Unless I am on your team, and we are in a mission (or getting ready FOR a mission), leave your buffs off of me!

Wait people RP on Champion?
But not this one. If people are just standing around sure no reason to buff them. Bu if they are fighting I don't see why they wouldn't welcome a buff.

- when I'm playing a brute, teammates who use repel or knockback that scatter the enemies thus putting them out of range of my area effect attacks. What should've taken 2 attacks on a 10 enemy mob would take 6 attacks because they're not together anymore. Even if I re-taunt them, they scatter again.
- toons lvl 45 and below who want to join a speed ITF. Might as well run with a team of 6 than a team of 8 with 2 lowbies who die as soon as the shadow cyst explodes or at Rom since they don't have enough defense.
- teammates crying for SB and then complaining that they died since they didnt get SB. I don't mind buffing, just don't blame me if the build fails without SB.
- coalie members who ask me to PL in AE at diff +3 and then don't heal or buff me while I'm doing all the work.
- when the lead brute isn't built to survive the shadow cysts in a speed ITF. After he dies, the enemies go after me, the squishy kin, when I do fulcrum shift. After the 5th cyst, I would just buff, go invisible and watch him die. Then TP everyone to safe spot and give wakies. When I ran out of wakies, I couldn't stand to team with him anymore.
