Marvel to resurrect CrossGen properties next year

agreed, the last thing i want to see is them pushed into the Marvel Universe where they're going to end as little more than tertiary characters for some toolbag like Bendis to end up killing to prove his next big story arc is 'edgy'. the sad part is i should be happy someone is going to try and do something with the properties, but given that it's Joey Q, not so much. I see them trying to do CrossGen and all that flashes through my mind are MArvel's New Universe imprint, and then later that abomination that was the Marvel Ultraverse.

If you've seen the interviews with Quesada et al about the Crossgen properties. It's going to be a separate imprint. I think Marvel wants to do more non Super Hero stuff, like DC does with Vertigo, and this will allow them to do that. The only thing that scares me is the reworking of the properties they keep talking about.

Favorite title was Negation followed by Sojourn and Sigil.

Well hopefully they will finish the Negation Wars.... Negation was my favorite of all of these. Hopefully this is not a B.O.H.O.C.A. moment.

The CrossGen characters would be better under a separate imprint, instead of having Quesada shoehorn them into the Marvel Universe.

But having them back in an altered form is better than not having them at all; hopefully they wont change the personalities of the characters too much.
Not surprised, I am expecting Boom! to fall under Marvel Imprint at some point.

What is said is Marvel bought Malibu which had all these great characters (and some bad ones). Marvel closed Malibu and the characters are in limbo but CrossGen characters get a rebirth?

Disney I know spent a lot of money buying CrossGen, but bring back the Malibu characters too this is another set of heroes that would be great to see.

Imagine how Prime must feel now that Chelsea Clinton just got married!

Scion was my personal favorite of the original series, but Negation was easily one of their best by the end. I wonder if this will be a reboot (with or without the metaplot) or a continuation?

Gotta say, though, I'm not too sure about the redesigned "sigil" logo...

I liked Ruse, despite my low opinion of Mark Waid, particularly due to the line, "Really, sir, the bellows alone..."

I can't see how anything new involving CrossGen can end well for fans of the various original series, who are inevitably going to be touchy purists, or Marvel, which is almost certain to upset those fans even if whatever it does with the properties is good (which is itself pretty unlikely).

On the other hand, the metaphorical train wreck may be fun to watch from afar.

This news made me extremely happy. My brother bought the entire run of Sojourn for me and prior to today it was the only comic that had any interest for me. The strong female lead was a breath of fresh air and I hated how it ended. I would love to see her come back and maybe even integrated into the Marvel Universe in a crossover event down the road.

I knew I bought some of a Crossgen title in trades, but for the life of me I couldn't think of which one it was just now. >.< So I checked wiki and it was Sojourn, the one with the archer woman who was fighting Azalin and his orcs. Heh, memorable, the title wasn't. I think I'll pass on this, especially if it's an imprint.

Seems the Crossgen characters were created under more straightforward contracts to cover who owned the characters. Malibu/Ultraverse gave more rights to the creators, which Marvel has little desire to deal with (as in getting the rights away from those creators to avoid royalties and the like) to get the characters back in publication.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

I know still makes me sad. Why buy something if you are not using it?

*shrug*

The could team up Prime with Marvelman, and have 2 science based homages to Captain Marvel that were created by other companies and now owned by Marvel.

I thought this was common knowledge. At the time, Malibu had pioneered, cross-hatch digital colouring. Which is part of why Image got them to be their publisher. With the addition of the higher grade paper Image wound up using, the digital colours took comics to a whole new level of plain good looks. Terrible plots aside, I don't think I've ever been so visually shocked than when I was looking at the first issue of Spawn (the others didn't quite make the same amount of impact; WildCATs had most panels too crowded, Savage Dragon and Shadowhawk used a subdued palette for the backgrounds... but Spawn stood out as a visible quantum leap in production values).

When the speculator bubble burst and Malibu fell on harder times, Marvel bought them up to get at their colouring processes, essentially. They didn't really care for Malibu's Intellectual Properties.
