3D Reimagined CoH Toons.

Heya folks.

I've been using a program called Blender for a few months now, which allows 3D modeling and all that good stuff..

Lately I've been reimagining some of my CoH toons, and rebuilding them in Blender. So I figured this would be a good place to show case them XD

My first one is based off of my Dark/Dark Defender, Suffress... The finished product is quite different from anything we can make in CoH, but the idea still stemmed from my CoH Toon.

My latest one, which I just finished, is based off a custom setup which I often use (I notoriously recycle my costumes XD). She's a little closer to what you'd find in CoH, but I felt silly constraining myself to only what you'd find in the game.

Thanks you for taking a look, and let me know what you think!

Cheers.

Very cool. Always fun to see different styles and even more of a treat to see new mediums being used.

I like what you added to Suffress from what can be noted as her COH costume. The spines on the back of her legs tie well into the ones along her collar, whereas I always feel they are a little alone on a normal character. Lowering the wings from between the shoulderblades to the lower back above the hips does a lot to change the way the character poses and how she comes across to me. If the wings were high you get a much grander sense of self, like a certain arrogance in that the wings are a greater functioning cape. With the wings lower like they are on her you get a much more intense sense of seduction and coy playfulness, like they're part of a dress or extra inviting arms. I almost want to complain that the background might be a little bright and active, but then so is the character with her little "come hither if you dare" finger curl and open mouth. Overal very nice take on a classic theme

Eternia is stunning. There's a lot of pieces here, like you said, that you can immediate identify in COH, but some have a rather simple but unique twist to them. I like the combination of the Reaper and Assassin face coverings that you did, and the design on it is very eye catching. The stealth armor looks like real kevlar, which fits perfectly for this ninja. I especially love how you managed to integrate the metal and spikes of her shoulders and belt into this otherwise sleek design without taking too much from this character. It adds another dimension of danger to her that immediately identifies her in my mind as either a well-paid assassin or a very serious anti-hero type character.

Very exciting work, and I look forward to seeing anything and everything else you care to share with us The designs and details for this pair make me feel rather awkward about my own rather serious and bland Black Luminous...

Wow, I've never before gotten such an in-depth analysis, thank you for taking the time to do that, it means a lot to me^^

I completely agree with you, and wish we had wings attached to the lower torso region in Coh.. Although I am grateful we got wings at all so I'm not complaining.

I like female demons with lower wings, and male with wings higher up, for the very reason you've stated.

No problem at all. I try to do what I can to give artists a good sense of what I see in their work. I have no skill myself so it's always nice to let people know just how appreciative we all are as fans

I'm looking foward to seeing more and rather curious if you plan on taking on anyone elses characters as well. I like the little details that you add that aren't available in game, and while sometimes that can move dangerously far away from the original design it's pretty clear that you are well grounded in the existing character design and simply build upon it. Makes me wonder what little things you'd add or change to another persons character, like the infamous Neko up there or possible some other well known often commissioned character (Thor's Assassin springs to mind, and pretty much anyone else from the Virtue-verse) or maybe even my own humble character >.>

I'd love to see you take on Rider 00 sometime XD but I can't afford to repay you in anyway until I get my scanner working if you wouldn't mind doing an art trade...of course, I must warn you I'm only good with Chibs.

Thank you for the interest, however, at this time, I am only really interested in doing females.. I'm also quite iffy on which requests I take, but maybe some day XD

It's quite steep.. Blows programs like Photoshop out of the water in the learning curve department. However, since it is totally free, I encourage anyone to check it out. You have nothing to lose! Also, one should also know their way around GIMP or Photoshop, if you want any decent textures.

Hey those are cool! Sorry I'm a 3d noob...do you have the figure as a base mesh and just add costume parts to it?

I got Blender and spent the afternoon learning the very very basics. These links helped me get up and going pretty quick, although I'm still clueless about most of its functions.

Do you know of other good Blender resources? I was so delighted when I saw the sculpt mode. I've wanted to try Zbrush for a long time but couldn't justify investing hundreds of dollars. I hope Blender can be a poor man's Zbrush.

Ok, sorry for hijacking your thread. Keep it up!

Ya pretty much what I do, I have a base body mesh that I use across most my characters, then I dress them up differently, and re proportion them when needed.

Blender's Sculpt tool is fairly good, it's no where near the quality of Zbrush, but it gets the job done, especially in 2.5.

Some other good resources;

and Youtube is a great source of video tutorials.

-Edit-

Been working on Sapphic Neko, since I already got the permission and she looked fun to do XD

Here's how she's coming along;

(While the image is censored, I'd still call it NSFW)

The detail on Neko is pretty stunning! Right down to her name engraved on the collar. I like the playfulness of the tail, but mostly the eyes catch me. They're much wider than you'd expect, almost anime-like, but they don't feel out of proportion on the character at all. They fit very well into that kind of semi-innocent tease that seems pretty essential to her character. The color is also starlting in the best of ways. Can't wait to see the finished work

Ahh, Blender! Only, it doesn't look Blender-y any more, those pictures are really well finished. I used to use Blender ten years ago, it is a cool program. I loved the way you can bump-map textures onto planes, like I suspect you've done with your very cool Kevlar. I should go see how Blender looks today too.

Ya I get that a lot from people who've used Blender in the past, most of the assume I'm using 3DSmax or something, and are astonished when I claim I did it in Blender.. It really is making leaps and bounds, and when Version 2.5 is in its final stages it will be even better.

And I did indeed use bump-maps (or in this case, Normal maps) for the kevlar pattern

This is exactly why people like drawing Neko I think...

Very very cool rendering Primantis! It's actually rather cool to see her in such a classic outfit with very little frills. Like I said before, it adds to that whole "kinda cutesy innocent" motif despite how very obvious it is that she's a demoness and probably deceptive and cruel This is one of the few images in a while that I've downloaded to see all the little details you've added in. My personal favorite is the stud in her belly button

Keep putting them up and we'll keep loving them

Thank you my friend, glad to hear that you like how she came out^^ I will say that she was quite fun to model, which is why I got her done so fast XD
