Xbox 360 Controller Issues Remain
Officially CoH doesn't support gamepads, so any support you do have now is a bonus. There are utilities to get the right stick to work (something like Xpadder: http://www.xpadder.com/ or Joy2Key: http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key...%20Version.htm)
If you run a search for gamepad on the forums here you'll uncover some threads that might help
I was pretty sure that when they added support during beta that it was "official." The ingame controller options already have a default gamepad setting.
*edit*
looks like only Logitech devices are officially supported.

i'd love for a change of policy on that, as lots of people have 360 controllers.

Ahh, my apologies. I missed that little note in the patches.
Still, might want to check out one of the referenced programs to see if that'll help with the right analog stick.

There's a very good reason Microsoft canned the plans for Xbox 360 to share multiplayer components with Windows Client games: http://www.rahulsood.com/2010/07/con...gainst-pc.html
The usage of a 360 controller was also a factor in Microsoft canning Champions Online. Beyond quality control issues and constant binary updates, reports stated that CO 360 testers never could get the game to "feel" right, even though Cryptic largely limited how CO was interacted with to be usable against a game controller.
In order for a game controller to be effective the developers would have to rework the entire user-interface and chat system, as well as the entire power system. It's just not worth the effort.
Since it's not worth the developers effort to rework the user-interface system to account for the limitations of a game-pad, it's extremely unlikely that the developers will go out of their way to address "compatibility" problems.
thanks, i'm trying Xpadder but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. it should work, but for some reason i can't get it to do anything
*edit* got it, i needed to run it as administrator.
sweet! thanks frost! 10 bux was a better deal than 26 and the hassle of switching controllers all the time!
wooo! gamepad-y goodness! =)
thanks for your opinion, je, but i've been rocking the gamepad since 04 and i'm not only awesome, but no one notices or cares. =)
it's great if you've got a good system down to make it work.
peace!
lots of people might have USB or Blue-tooth game-pad controllers... but come on... using a game-pad controller to play CoH will likely get you laughed at if your team were to find out, and a request to please switch to a keyboard and mouse so you can keep up.

What color are the clouds where you live??? Every single person I know in game (that I have asked so far anyways) uses a game pad.....as do I. I cannot imagine using a keyboard and mouse! Ever! Fine for Wow and all it's knock offs, where the pace is slow....but CoH?? I would quit if they got rid of controller support!

I'd hate having to use a gamepad... which'd still require me to use a keyboard to be able to use team chat/global chat/tells, and a mouse for interacting with stores, the market, and crafting.
I've used both a keyboard+mouse and controller for most of my life, and while many games I've played with keyboard and mouse would work fine with a controller, there's many, many that'd just be horrible. Any controller based game (not counting the Wii's motion based stuff) could be ported to using a keyboard+mouse fairly well, without major modifications to the gameplay required, but the reverse often can't be the case, especially for entire styles of games (anything click heavy... analog sticks suck when emulating mice).
Different strokes for different folks, and all that... but I definitely wouldn't want to be stuck with a controller with CoX.

I'm with je_saist here. Everyone I know use a keyboard and a mouse. Maybe a game board controller like the ones from Saitek PZ31A, Logitech G13 or Belkin N52 (left hand keyboard with thumb controller).

I bet this is a generational or weened on a console Vs PC gaming thing. Those of us playing PC games since the time of CGA and Hercules B+W graphics are keyboard/mouse while those whose very first computer gaming experience was an XBox or PlayStation prefer a game controller.

Nicodemus, I too use a game pad and have since I started playing CoH. I had a few recommedations since I've been using the same game pad since. I use only Saitek controllers as they are the only ones with two additional buttons on the normal (x,y,a,b or square, circle, X, triangle) buttons are. On top of which, I have been able to rock out both Analog sticks and still use the directional pad for additional actions. I went by the Saitek website and apparently they don't sell usb pc controllers any longer (only flight sticks); you can still find them on Amazon. I posted them here for you to take a view.
Also; if they were to drop pad support, I'd have to stop playing; only because I have a severe case of carpal tunnel and the pad helps extremely.
This is the one I use with no problems thus far since I started playing in '07

The next one I'm considering

Hope it helps
Evil prevails when good men fail to act.
One of the best hearding tanks I've ever met here in Co* used a gamepad/numpad combo.
Taught me everything I know about being a herding tank...which I, of course, apply on a keyboard instead.
Hi there,
As is known, the second analog stick on the Xbox 360 controller doesn't work for CoH.
Is there any chance of this getting fixed sometime soon? I'm sorta tired of having one controller for CoH and one controller for everything else I play.
My CoH controller just broke too, so now I'm looking at buying a new one and I wish I could just use my 360 controller. It'd make my life a lot easier.
A dev response would be lovely if possible so I can plan accordingly.
Thanks!
