"Virtue Forever United" vs. "Virtue United"?

So the other day VU was off on a slight tangent again, I chimed in once and then got a blind invite into "Virtue Forever United".
*confused*

Other than it's MOTD of being for "vetern" players and for TF's, Teams, etc., why do we have this channel in addition to VU? This morning it was at 25 members to VU's 40, so there actually are people there.

Which one is for offtopic banter? (I like to BS over the globals while I solo)
What was the purpose of the additional one? Was it because someone had a tiff with the VU mods? (I did see someone there who had posted an angry rant about a VU mod, but he wasn't of any rank on VFU, so it wasn't his creation.)
VU full and a new channel created? That's what VU2009, VU2010 were about.

Yeah, I'm sure I missed out on some drama. Want to get the lowdown.

I was sitting AFK, and I got the same invite... Turned it down in confusion, but I would love to know what it is.

I got the channel invite as well. I accepted. Virtue United never impressed me, and it seem like more of a waste of space. These days though it seems like the cool thing to do is have your own channel.

I will keep Virtue Forever United on my tab for now to see if it is worthwhile.

Sort of off-topic... does anyone know anyone on the "Virtueverse" GC? I heard that was the one to be on, but I've never met anyone actually on it.

Even more off-topic than Robot's question... What ARE the main GC's for Virtue these days? For TF's, Groupings, etc.

The two main ones I use are:

Virtue TF 2010 <- something close to that
Virtue LFG Alpha

Hey, someone find out if the Virtue Forever channel is being run by that ax-crazy murder-threatening internet tough guy.

I joined it as I figure it's another global channel to advertise teams on. VU seems the most active with chatter, and it's usually pretty good (I seem to miss all the drama) chatter at that.

He was banned, so unless he has another account....

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Gee I can't wait till that switches again. What next? Virute: This is really the LFT channel you are looking for?

Yeah, I know what you mean. As one of the two current mods of Virtue LFG Alpha, I can't say I was very pleased when I found out about the formation of yet another channel with an identical purpose.

Especially since there was no real reason for it other then OCD issues with a name having an extra word, oh and it splits up the people that would make use of them very nicely as well.

I saw a name that was quite similar to his, but it had a 'minus' between the two words, and it didn't have any marker denoting him as a moderator/operator. Possibly just a coincidence.

Banned from the game, or just banned from the forums.

There are a lot of people dissatisfied with VU for one reason or another. Looks like someone decided to do something about it.

Well, we might move again if the original Virtue LFG ever becomes available again but I don't have any other plans for moving again. I decided to start another LFT channel because "Virtue LFG Alpha" was a little too long in the name. This might seem like a petty thing, but as I've learned from my failed attempt to promote the Architect Channel as an impromptu teaming channel, a short and clear name is essential, something even more important if a channel's name is expected to stick around {unlike the original situation where channels kept moving due to "bloating"}.

Also, the actual Virtue LFG Alpha is still around and in use, so it hasn't actually moved - instead, it might be more accurate to think of VLFG as an alternative, or a competitor, rather than a migration destination.

PS: I don't think I could call VLFG "mine" - other than recruiting players into it, I'm not really doing enough in it to claim ownership in any sense other than being a mod.

Competition and alternatives aren't positives when the goal is to unite people in teams.

I agree with Emberly on this. The purpose of these channels regardless of their channel names was to provide a resource for the players to link up and group together.

I applaud Qunich for setting up the original channel, but I do not see any benefit in making yet another channel under the pretense of naming being a "little too long". Plenty of people found Virtue LFG Alpha without problem of the name being a "little too long".

It's extremely counterproductive, but it happens for a reason.

Joe Gamer isn't happy with the way Moderator X is managing General Chat. Maybe he got banned for something he considers trivial, maybe he's being shouted down for his opinions, maybe he sees favoritism. Whatever the reason, Joe is upset. The important thing to remember is that as far as Joe Gamer's happiness with General Chat is concerned, it does not matter whether or not Moderator X is a good or bad moderator. It only matters if Joe THINKS he's a bad moderator.

So Joe finds a few friends that also dislike Moderator X and his group, and they create the channel Server Chat. Now, you have two "anything and everything" channels, and what's worse is that sooner or later, someone is going to disagree with Joe Gamer's mod style and make another channel.

Whether Joe is a whiny little snot or a legitimate victim depends on the person and your interpretation. In most cases, if he's a jerk himself, his channel will fail. If enough people think he has a legitimate reason for being upset with Moderator X, his channel will succeed. In most of these cases who is the "good guy" and who is the "bad guy" is ENTIRELY up to interpretation.

I have been thinking about this in general alot of late. This is the reason why teaming channels should be limited to discussions about teaming. I have noticed this problem in the Vitrue TF 2010 channel more and more and it gets to the point that there so much non TF chat that the purpose of the channel is negated. There are plenty of channels dedicated to conversations and that is where the conversations will be held. Otherwise the favoritism issues arise especially when two different moderators are inconsisent in their approaches to moderate the same channel.

I would like to announce the creation of the following channels:

'Virtue's KiTTY Lovers';
'VKL' alternative channel for those who prefer a shorter name;
'Virtue's Real KiTTY Lovers' for those who don't get along with people from the original channel;
'VRKL' for those who prefer a shorter name;
'VR-KL' to emphasize that the R stands for Real and should not be read as V-RK-L;
'V-RK-L' for those who actually like the idea the above channel is combatting;
'VR KL' and 'V RK L' for those who prefer spaces over hyphens from the two above respectively;
'VKRL', 'VRLK', 'VLRK', 'VLKR' to guide poor souls who may end up here by misspelling the channel name. We're recruiting volunteers to watch some of these channels as we're running out of channel slots.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Well, you might have a point. Either way, I've set the MOTD asking whether we should merge the channel into Virtue LFG Alpha, so we'll see what happens.
