I worked up this build for defense. I also wanted to get as much out of the set bonuses as I could. What do you guys think?

I worked a build up during winter for this combo. It offers decent recharge and about 38% ranged def. I know I can do better with it, especially if I go S/L def and take Scorpion Shield. I'll see what I can come up with, but here is the old build for a something to ponder.

Um, I'm not entirely sure what defense you were building for since you've only got Maneuvers/CJ or Hover for yourself.

If you want defense I'd recommend you go with Mace Mastery so you can take Scorpion Shield. Slot for s/l defense sets.

Arctic Fog is getting fixed with GR so it'll give s/l defense as intended. With 5-6% from Arctic Fog, 20% from Scorpion Shield, 6% from Weave and 3% from a Steadfast Protection in Tough you're at 34%ish already. Add in CJ and you're at 36%.

The last 9-10% is really easy to get. Slot 1 or 2 sets of Kinetic Combats (Boxing/Brawl). Another option is Obliterations in Blackstar.

Regardless, I'd recommend you do a big retool of the build. It's very possible to softcap your defenses while getting good recharge and recovery. Pricey, but that doesn't seem to be a deterrent

You've way overslotted several of your powers and skipped one of the best reasons to go with Dark Blast, namely Life Drain. The damage isn't amazing but with HOs/IOs you can get really great values for acc/dam/heal/end/rech turning it into a great all round attack.

Your slotting in Sleet and Heat Loss is um, really not good. You want maxed out recharge in those powers, which you're not getting.

I've got a guide for Cold Dom in my sig if you want to take a look. It covers a lot of slotting ideas/suggestions as well as more general Cold stuff.

Hope that helps

recharge on sleet does not really "need" to be maxed out. A little recharge is good but even with no recharge it is up for pretty much every spawn. I have a lvl 47 dark/cold corr and it is very nice. On teams you are kind of support due to the dots. Tentecals provides good control when fightings large groups and night fall as a follower, that is basically what i spam after using sleet as my opener.

I have to ask, why do you have combat jumping and hoover?

Silas pretty much covered the things I was thinking of changing and updating, so yea. :P

Recently built one myself around defense. It gets about 30% to all positional def and almost 50% S/L resist. Though my build leaves out the shield buffs which I can't stand using.

I hope you saw all of the 9, 10 and 15% recharge and accuracy set bonuses. I think you're right about life drain though. I'm gonna go over it again, which is what I always do after posting here to get feedback before I actually slot the toon. I'll also take a look at your guide when I get the chance. Thanks.

Edit: I wanted to fit the fighting pool in but I couldn't find the room. I was counting leadership as defense too. Maybe I could just take manuevers and drop the rest of leadership for the fighting pool?

In some cases, I would agree with you about leaving out the buffs (i.e. my bots/therm mm), but I went /cold because I want to buff people. I play her similar to my sonic and kin toons. I don't mind being a buffbot when it is my strongest point. I just can't see taking /cold and not using the buffs.

Aye, I know there are plenty who enjoy buffing, just giving my disclaimer/warning that my build was sans buffs and goin all debuffs.

Softcapped range def + 46% s/l resist and 50ish global recharge without hasten. You can play aggressive debuffer and buff people too. Plus you have attacks, something sorely lacking in your first build.

Alternate build involves dropping the hold and getting maneuvers, you can shuffle some slots around that way and get more global recharge via lotg 7.5s.

I took another look at the build and considered everyone's advice. This is what I came up with but I notice that I'm over the HP and Regen caps. I was way over on the accuracy cap with the original build. I solved that problem by rearranging some slots which actually gave me more resistance to mez, toxic and psionic. The problem with taking out the overkill on the HP and Regen caps is that I will also lose either some defense or recharge. I would rather not, if I can help it. I'm thinking that the build looks great as is, but I don't know whether I'm wasting slots to get the regen and HP cap (and to keep the defense and recharge) or if it's good like it is. Is it a bad thing to see those red over cap indicators?

Edit: Some better questions are, how far over the cap am I? I have no idea what the cap is for either of those. If I get rid of some of the overage how far will I go below the cap? If I leave it as is am I just a small percentage over? Also, now that I added acrobatics are those kb prot. procs. overkill? Since they are in buffs, does that kb protection go on me or the person I'm buffing? If I replaced one of the LoTG doubles in manuevers with a common defense IO would that actually give me more defense?

Edit: I replaced the def, def/end, and def/rech. LoTGs in maneuvers with Red Fortunes with the same effects. I left the 7.5% rech. proc. I think this is going to be the build that I go with. Also, some were questioning my choice of Epic. The main reason I took it was for power boost.

The build above this post is broken, you took Vengeance but only have Maneuvers. This can't be done, as far as I know you need 2 powers from the Leadership pool before Vengeance opens up.

Due to recent budget cuts and the cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions and the continued decline of the economy, The Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Why? It doesn't boost the strength of your shields, only the buffs from manuevers/veng and ups your heal on life drain. But I don't really think those are justification enough to settle for power boost.

Is this a PvP build or something? you have pitiful damage output for PvE

Thanks scout I missed that but it's fixed now. I took nightfall instead. I gotta look it over some more to see if I should move some more slots around. This brings the question that I had about kb protection back up. Those kb prot. procs I have in ice shield and glacial shield, who gets that kb protection? Me or the guy I'm buffing? If I'm getting it are they necessary with acrobatics already in place? Should I move one or both of those slots over to nightfall? I'm going to slot it with posi's blast.

It also boosts the immobilize in TT, but you bring up a good point. I was thinking that it worked on slow powers and -ToHit as well. After rereading it I'm not sure that it does now...

Greatly boosts the secondary effects of your powers. Your powers effects like Disorients, Holds, Immobilizes, Heals, Defense Buffs, Endurance Drains, Knockbacks and more, are all improved. The effects of Power Boost last a short while, and only the next couple of attacks will be boosted. You must be level 44 and have Soul Drain or Dark Embrace before selecting this power. Recharge: Long

Here's the build with Nightfall and moving those slots. Nemu you mentioned that my damage output was really low but are you taking into account my high recharge and accuracy? I might not do much damage with a single hit but I can attack more often and I won't be missing much either. Also, I was going more for defense and slowing down foes while reducing their ToHit. Also, will powerboost work on those chance of -recharge procs (it says it boosts end drain)?

My damage output comment was aimed at the attack chain you are running. You could run gloom->tentacles but you will have a few seconds gap in between, more especially if you get slowed.

Since AoE is the name of this game and you prefer playing team support I was going to suggest that you fit at least nightfall into the mix but you already did that in your updated build.

My twin brother and I used to run "dual combo" all the time and the very first combo we tried is dual Dark/Cold. Dark's tohit debuff synergizes with Cold's defense and he and I would shield each other.

Dark/Cold shines the most on a team. Both TT can provide very good aoe immb and Nightfall for aoe damage. Single target damage is on the lower side but at least we are very very safe.

I miss our Dark/Cold combo. Too bad we made that before invention was introduced and my twin bro no longer plays games. I think Dark/Cold has very good set potentials.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
