Word of Caution

Get to know the SG that sends you an invite out of the blue. Talk to other people, even if they CLAIM to be new...and if possible, find out about the SG leader. I happen to know this from personal experience, there are some SGs that just take this game too seriously.

This is generally good advice, I mean how else do you know if you'll have fun with the people? But remember it's not like it's a blood sacrifice to join and SG, you can quit. Also, in the end, unless you give up a lot of personal information, it's not like you just can't ignore group.

Pretty much. If you join a VG, and it's not fun...just quit. If it's a pick-up SG, treat it just like how you'd quit a crappy pick-up group that ends up with 15 consecutive team wipes cause that "healer" isn't "healing" and the team leader is raging in the background over it!

Actually, there are SGs that will blacklist you if you join and say the wrong thing, even including keeping their members from teaming with you. It's better to know that ahead of time so you can at least still team with the nicer members and not get into that lovely little conflict.

I learned my lesson about accepting unsolicited SG/VG invites; don't do it...

Yah...I'd count that as the infamous drama llama. If members of the VG are dumb enough to avoid me -just- cause the Supreme Leader (*snrk*) said so, I wouldn't wanna have anything to do with those people to begin with.

And if they ever actively try to harass me, or their members for interacting with me...there are tools such as Report and /Ignore. Personally I can't /ignore people though. It's weakness, I know...

I'm not saying blind SG invites are cool. I have been a member of only one SG in my entire CoH years. But quitting a drama llama VG doesn't seem that big of a deal to me.

Those people need to change their meds.

Yeah, so? I've was black listed from a group of folks I thought were my friends and were, at the time, a fairly popular group of toons on Virtue. Bummed me out a bit because, I consider these folks friends (at my age then, 39-40, I should have known better but had just moved to a new town and didn't know anyone) because we had outside game/SG conversations/contact. Had zero effect on my enjoyment of the game, and the blacklist was mostly ignored in terms of teaming and my ability to join another supergroup. Did kill my writing though.

I was the 3rd person they had shunned, and they continued to do so to other members. I suspect the 3 core leaders are still running incredibly interesting RP in some game out there, and alienating people as they go.

Play your game, don't take RP personally, and avoid drama like the plague.

Don't take me wrong, I've seen great SG. For some folk's SG friendships can be very real and very close, even I still talk to some of the folks from the first group, but don't put up with crap.

Blind SG invites get an automatic no. Second, if someone asks, I then ask them, I have been told many times that SGs are active, and they aren't. Usually at this point they don't respond, and I know the answer. SGs in my experience are something I stay away from, period. I have two with my static groups, that's enough for me. Well one other hero as well, but we'll see about that.

I for one try to avoid the aforementioned people who take this game and their RP waaay to seriously. Caring about you character and what happens to them is one thing..hell if you've put alot of time into creating said character..its pretty much to be expected. Thinking that just because your character is in a relationship with mine, that we have some kind of damn OOC bond..well thats just @#%%$@ing nutz.

Its all just RP, made up fun things we do to help take our minds off of the everday droll of RL. Nothing more, nothing less. As far as SGs/VGs go...IMO there reallys isn't a point in joining a group right now, unless you know the person/people in charge of it. Cause from my understanding..when GR comes out quite a few groups are gonna DIE. If I read right n all that...if a hero goes COMPLETELY villian they auto-lose their place in a SG, and vice-versa.

Which would make sense, because a COMPLETE villian cannot go back into Paragon City UNTIL they've done their allignment changing mishs.

That's true, but you'll have villains going the other way who might want a new SG. There is another thing, too. Especially on an RP server, there are characters who simply will not cross over for RP reasons, and maybe one or two who just want to skirt the line and be vigilantes (I haven't really heard if the Vigilantes lose SG affiliation, but if they are the middle ground, I don't see why they would have to.) SGs will change, but I think the only ones that will die are the blatantly villainous ones that were formed before COV.

Vigilantes will be able to join SGs and use Wentworths. They're darker than heroes, but their intentions are still noble.

Rogues will be able to join VGs and use the Black Market. They're nicer than villains, but their intentions are still selfish.

Everybody is going to be using the same market come GR/i18. They're being merged.

The concept of blacklisting from SGs etc. is hilarious.

Me? I just one-star and use them as vengeance bait later on but that won't stop me running with them just because their there, will it?

Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

I wasn't referring to the rogues and whatnot.. I was saying those that COMPLETLEY switch sides will lose their current group membership.

Unless their group has a villain counterpart. Which I see the number of growing after GR.
