I made a trial account for this game, and I like it, so I decided to buy the game. None of my local stores carry it anymore it seems. I don't really have a problem with that though, because I thought I could just buy it online. However, when I try to buy the game from the NCsoft store I get the following message:

"We are not currently accepting charges for your game account from the credit card number you entered. Please contact support@ncsoft.com if you feel that this is in error."

I've e-mailed support about it, just waiting for a response. I'm curious though, has anyone else ever had a problem like this? I'm worried now that even if I find it at a local store, I won't be able to start a subscription. I hate dealing with game time cards.

oh that's not good for long term subscription...

if you somehow got on a banned credit card list, you might be better off buying from a retail store or amazon.com

One of the reasons store inventory will be low right now, is that there is a new box coming out in August. This will have the new expansion (Going Rogue) plus the basic game.

Yes, the card has been used before. However, the old info expired. (It's a visa debit card) I used the card on my brothers City of Heroes account a long time ago, as well as my short lived Tabula Rasa account. I actually started to suspect it might be because it has been used before, but with an old expiration date. (my first debit card expired in 2009, this one is good until 2012)

I've thought about buying it online from amazon. Only problem is, if memory serves me correct, you have to add your CC or a game time card to the account to get the free month. I really don't want to drop $50 on the game today. =/ ($20 for the game, $30 for the game time card)

If it's the same number, then that's likely the case (I thought you were supposed to get a new number when you got a new card issued?).

Yeah, same number. I know credit cards give you a new number, but I think debit cards are different. Well, at least mine was. And on a side note: I just tried to log into my brothers old account that the card was on at one point. It says that master account is permanently blocked. Which is weird considering the account was in good standings when we canceled it 2.5 years ago. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and order the game and game time from amazon. Just thinking out loud here.. Possibly someone got into the account and used it for nefarious deeds? *shrug* That's the best I can come up with; I don't think us players can assist you much further, good luck with support.

Possibly somebody hacked the account. However there is also something else to consider. Is there any chance at all that you told your bank that the NCsoft charge to your account was invalid? People have done this in the past. They look at a recurring charge on their account and don't recognize it. They call the bank tell them that it's an invalid charge.

If you do that then from that point on that credit card and all accounts tied to it will be permanently blocked. It doesn't matter if you call and explain to NCsoft that it was all a mistake. That card and account are permabanned.

But either way there is an easy fix for getting a new account and subscription. Go to your bank and tell them you want a second debit card for that account. Every bank I've ever had an account with has happily given me a second card. I do this because I keep one card with me for purchases while I'm out and about and I keep the second card in my computer desk so it's always available for online purchases.

That is the error line you get if a card has been flagged as stolen/fraudulent and has been blocked by NCSoft.

Why you've been blocked is something that only customer service can say (not sure if they will or not, as the only blocked out card I had was actually stolen and I initiated the block after fraudulent charges started showing up on my card).

I think, unfortunately, that once it's blocked; it's basically blocked forever.

I'd get ahold of CS (calling them is probably better than a game of e-mail tag for something like this) and confirm things, then I'd go have your bank issue you a new card number.

Maybe if you report the credit/debit card lost or stolen. If the card just expires, you should get a new card with the same account number and a new expiration date. They may update the CVV number or whatever it's called, but not the account number. I had a credit card with the same number for close to 20 years before I finally cancelled the account.

While you do have to enter a CC number to start the account it's not uncommon for a card to be ok for the monthly payment, but not for the NCSoft store.

I used to be in banking, and can give you one good piece of advice. Call your bank, and tell them you need a new debit card with a new number. Explain that, for reasons unknown, a company you do business with won't accept the updated expiration date. That should work.

BUT, if they try to say that they can't issue a new number, they are lying. They can, and they will if you insist. Just ask, and it usually isn't an issue. (90% of the time, banks understand and just process your request without any grief or challenges...only about 10% of the banks I have dealt with have issues about card number changes).

I've never had my bank stop a recurring payment, so I know that's not it. I did finally find a local store with City of Heroes and bought it there, but it still won't accept my card for my subscription. I'm just going to buy a game time card in a few days and be done with it. I've had 3 NCsoft games on this card in the past: City of Heroes, Lineage 2, and Tabula Rasa. Support got back to me with some useless info and escalated my ticket, we will see how that goes. I'm not going to call them because they don't offer a 1-800 number. I refuse to pay long distance for something like this, lol. I'll post an update after support gets back to me. Maybe I'll have useful info for anyone else that has this problem in the future.

Remember to log in to your Master Account and check on your Support Ticket, providing any relevant info and updating your support ticket. I often see others starting new tickets which only puts you back at square one.

Don't get discouraged, it takes time to sort these things out, and the first response is almost always a canned response, escalation means they've forwarded your issue on to the appropriate department.

For the few account issues I've had to have sorted out turn-around times for me have been anywhere from 2-5 days to resolve, but they have always been resolved.

It could be that it's somehow holding on to the expired card info, and needs to be manually cleared on NCsofts side. (Just guessing here.) I do hope that this gets resolved soon for you.

Also, if you go more than two days without a reply from support, update your ticket to let them know you're still kickin' around in line. They automatically close tickets that are more than 72 hours without an update (it's an artifact of their automated system, NOT the GMs themselves).

This. I think if my current card is still in my possession (I have a horrendous rate of losing them in the most peculiar places until I get a new one issued) so I am forced to relearn the numbers... XD

Paypal was giving me the same error when I tried to buy the game from the NCsoft store. I assumed it would give me the same error for my subscription. Turns out, it won't. My account is now active and not trial. ^_^ I'm still waiting on support though. I want to know why they won't let me just use my damn card. Thank you all again for the help.

Finally got it fixed. My card had been blocked because it was on multiple master accounts. They removed the block and I'm now back in business.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Are you sure on this? I've had 3 master accounts (and all CoH) on a single card before, with no issues.. That's buying everything from booster packs to slots for them as well.. Though they didn't like it if I did several transactions in a day.
