I am at my Wit's end, I am at friends wit's end. Heck I even made couple Comcast folks come to their wit's end.

My Internet is being Weird.

I can Surf to say any site, without issues, until Cityofheroes.com, then it takes good 3 mins to load, if I click my account, to go into my NCSoft Master account, takes 4-5 mins each action, its very slow. No where else is like this. This not all

My City of Heroes, I have 3 characters now, that are stuck in game, Ive made peititions, they are still stuck, as in, when I try log them in, game stop's responding, If I log in any other toon, its fine, less I try & zone, then this issue happens.

NEXT: My Yahoo & Comcast email, will not load, it will say these

Comcast: The connection has timed out

The server at sz0006.ev.mail.comcast.net is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

The same happens when I try to sign into Yahoo. Now I made a Gmail account, tested it, I get into it just fine.

NEXT: Yahoo Search bar, won't work, if I swap it to Google I can search with it. Yahoo times out.

At speedtest.net, it says: Download is at 13.99(yesterday I was getting 22), while my Ping is 55 & upload is 4.76.
This issue persists on Firefox, Internet Explorer & Chrome.

I have checked everything I could think of & what folks told me to check, I had one nice comcast lady spend hour n half with me, going through everything we could, Ive cleared proxys, cookies, turn off & on the firewall(testing each time). I have ran every virus & spyware system recommended by me & friends. 3 different virus protection systems & 3 different spy things(McAffee(came with computer, but got rid of it), Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Defender, Spybot, & Malwarebytes). They have said my computer if A-Ok, nothing wrong.

I have whipped my computer clean, back to nothing & load from Windows 7 Disk. First thign I did once I got internet up, was test, same issue, just got CoH loaded up fully, Same exact characters are still causing the game to stop responding.

Computer is Windows 7 Home 64bit Operating System, atm I got Microsoft Security Essentials for Virus protection. Intell Core i7 CPU, 6 Gigs of Ram, 2.80ghz.

Has anyone heard or experienced this issue themselves?
So need Help

JJ

p.s. my DL speeds are now 32..odd

try resetting your modem I have similar problems sometimes usually seems to do the trick.

couldn't tell, but have you reset your modem and router(if you have arouter)?
that may help you out.

Posted

if you are running a router, have you tried a different router or using a different firmware version?

Modem is directly into the computer(Via USB Line), Ive had comcast reset it 3 times, No Router. Sunday it was fine, no issues, monday when I logged in the morning, this started & continues.

you actually have to manually reset it. which means shut down your comp, unplug the modem for at least 2 mins. replug in the modem, wait 30 secs to a min after it reboots then turn back on your comp.

Hmm? why would comcast reset it for you? there should be a button on the back of the modem to reset it.

A few things (some already said, but they bare repeating)

  • Reset your router
  • Revert your router to firmware defaults
  • Replace your router
  • Run a traceroute to a few different sites cause you trouble and see if you can notice anything in common.

Just so you know, the router/cable modems Comcast provides are horrible quality. And to make matters even worse... if your cable modem is replaced by them, they're sent back to the distribution center to be repackaged and sent back out, with only the minimalist possible checking done. Whatever one you've been given has likely been sent back multiple times, even if it was in packaging when it was first installed.

Edit: WTF? Using USB? If at all possible use freaking Ethernet! USB is NOT INTENDED FOR THAT!

dumb question time:

what happens when you use a REAL network interface and do NOT use USB?

I dunno?

I just have USB line into the computer to the Modem, this how it was set up for me, when I bought my new machine back in Jan, same as before, there no Network card per say, only card hooked to my Motherboard is my Video Card, the USB is that silver box connected to the motherboard.

so your saying your motherboard does not have a port that looks like an over-sized phone jack?

are you using a usb cable or an ethernet cable to hook up your modem to your comp?

at this point i would go to your comcast center and bring the old modem with you and ask for them to replace it letting them know what is going on. make sure you ask for a brand new one. you might still get one that looks brand new but has been used, but it may help to oust the modem as the problem.

PingPlotter is a useful freeware tool to run traceroutes for you.

Then you have ethernet, not USB, connection to your modem. As it should be.

Comcast is like that. If they're having a problem and know it, they will not tell customers when they call up. Back when I was a Comcast customer, I'd have to call up about once a week due to various issues, and several times after going through the usual crap (reset the router, wait 45 seconds or 45 minutes when they felt nasty, dance around in the yard, etc) right before hanging up they'd say "It'll be back up in X minutes"... and then it was up right at that time... meaning the entire time they knew it was a planned outage! A few of the people even admitted so much when I got especially annoyed with multiple calls in a week.

Comcast hates you.

Going out on a limb here. One of the problems we had at Cox Communications is that it was possible to list a modem of one model with a MAC-address from a modem of a different model.

This might not sound like a bad thing until you consider that most DOCSIS systems, such as those used by Cox or Comcast, often receive their firmware updates and modem information from the ISP. So, if you had a Motoral Surfboard 5100, but we told the system you had a Surfboard 4100, or vice versa, you could actually get a corrupted modem firmware that would generate disconnections, lag, and other issues.

It's possible then since Comcast basically flipped a switch and it worked, they had screwed something up on their side of the connection. To confirm what Kitsune says though, it's basically policy for the company to never admit THEY did anything wrong.
