Farming Brute

If you don't have the aura you can use taunt or any attack to generate some aggro.
This answer is accurate:

I'm open to the concept that herding and using Burn could be more effective. I simply have not been able to do it myself nor seen it done by someone else. As I said above, I am greatly interested in seeing Burn used more effectively than my normal strategy on any map that can drop purple recipes.

Quote:
Farming for Purples
Mu: 48.87 Enemies per minute. (359k Inf/Minute) +0/x8 No Bosses, Liberate
Mu: 37.43 Enemies per minute. (348k Inf/Minute) +0/x8 Bosses, Liberate

Farming for Inf/Prestige/XP
Mu: 515k Inf/Minute (27.8 defeats) +3/x8 No Bosses, Liberate
Mu: 443.2k Inf/Minute (18.01 Defeats) +2/x8 Bosses, Liberate
I would be greatly interested in seeing someone use Burn and generate numbers superior to any of those on a map that can drop purples.

*EDIT*
I've had lots of similar discussions like this one in my CoH career. Often someone would say "I did this" and I'd respond "No way". Then he'd say "Yeah way" and I'd say "Prove it". Then he'd prove it with me watching. Then I'd steal his secrets, utilize them myself and incorporate them into my own strategy and eventually claim them as my own.

Smurphy: stealer of knowledge.
Smurphy: never had an original thought.

**Chalk up inspiration binds, attacking while jumping into packs and 2x Hurdle into those categories. Small changes add up into big results.

Using normal maps I don't think you'll be more effective using Burn. Most of the times, on a map like Liberate, the mobs are too spread out so herding will slow you down. That's why I dropped Burn because I didn't even use it while farming.

Like I said before, the only map I can think of where you would benefit more from using Burn and herding is the nemesis platform.

Unless you are on a steam-powered computer, it shouldn't take more than a minute or so between resets (since it doesn't take long to SS/SJ back to the mission door, zone, reset the mission, and re-enter).

Sounds like a Nemesis plot.

Don't even need to herd too much with that map. I threw up a recording of a run with my SS/Fire/Mu, and you can see that Burn has at least some utility here (it's also worth noting that Nemesis like to lock themselves into really long animations, which is nice when they're standing right next to you in a Burn patch).

I'm guessing that it's fire aura, but it looks more like quills because of the color.

It is Blazing Aura, but I'm using an icon correction pack (unfortunately due to that site's new setup you need to register for an account to download it, but registration is free) so the power icon's probably not what you're used to.

Regarding a build, this is what I'm running with my SS/Fires - it's not the best but it's fairly cheap (put it together for around 300, 400 million a few months back).

I've been working on a farming brute, and I think this is pretty decent. I picked up Rise of the Phoenix simply due to how often I die, but as I get better, I'll need it less and less, so when that happens, I'll swap it for Fiery Embrace. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

After reading all the threads and links I just found out I was farming wrong !!

I didn't know or think to turn off bosses.

Otherwise really nice stuff here and great read through all the threads.. Nice to learn a few things..

Hurdle 2-slotted with jump enhancements. Slotted-up Hurdle + CJ really is the best in-combat movement you can get in this game save teaming with a Kin.

So that leaves ball lightning as maybe being a little better than dark obliteration, but with the other two, particularly no knockdown prevention in soul tentacles, doesn't /soul work a little better than /mu for this combo?

I guess if you're not using lightning field and just taking mu lightning and ball lightning that comes out fairly equal to gloom and dark obliteration.

I've never farmed with a SS/Fire, so I don't know. I'm curious, though.
When farming with a melee toon you are (or should be) always in the middle of tons of mobs. Elec fences is much more likely to get a whole spawn locked down in a burn patch than Soul Tentacles' narrow cone. Most farmers take Ball Lightning and Elec fences since they are true AoE powers and you don't have to position yourslef to hit everything.

Comparing just the single target range powers, yes Gloom is better than Mu Lighting in overall damage, but on farmer builds AoE is king.

Lastly, if you have spent enough time and effort putting together your farmer build, you should not have to worry about petty things like mitigation from footstomp.

I'm more accustomed to builds that stack defense or need high recharge for a key power and WP doesn't really match those.
HP, Regen, Recharge. If you take Combat Jumping and Weave you have a total of 4 spots for LoTG +recharge once you get some funds together. Then you still have the potential of 5 purple sets as well. Stun (boxing or jab), Melee, PBAOE, TAOE and ranged.

Now granted you can stack defense to a point on WP, but I have not found a way to do that and still maintain the very high recharge that I like for farming. Therefore I tend to go with more HP and regen.
