Discussion: Going Rogue ViDoc #2 - Between Good & Evil
EvilRyu will be disappointed: I agree here, its time for them to finally put some heavy advertisment into this game to make it catch more players. We need a trailer during the movie previews or before the movie previews. Commercials on tv would do wonders for this game. |
Remember, WoW has so much money they can afford to piss it away like that.

Silver Gale comes up with some CRAZY ideas!: I know, right? They should make a box that has the game and expansion in it, making it easy for prospective new players to see the cool new stuff. Then they could do some sort of promotion together with a major games retailer where people who preorder the game/expansion box through that retailer get something cool, maybe even small ingame bonuses. They should at least make a video series that talks about all the cool stuff they have coming up, and post it on some highly-frequented social network website. |
**snickers** Nicely done.

Does Jay Doherty finally have a character now? His Super Lumberjack is pictured alongside BABs, WW, Posi, and Ghost Falcon! XD

These things Paragon Studios is doing to "advertise" now will NOT bring in any significant players.
I wonder if they have touched on all the areas that will be in GR. I didn't really see any new mission styles/innovations (although there were some comments about tip missions etc). Are these morality missions just going to be like the current arcs we have now? The Midnighter's Club arc has become a nuisance and a hassle. I hope the alignment changes don't get to that state.
All in all there seems to be a lot of cool little stuff to do but if the play style is just like what we have now and it all has a familiar feel...I think the long time players will tire of this very quickly. |
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
I'm just amused that the Midnighter Arc has become "a nuisance and a hassle". Some people must have a lot lower threshold of boredom than I do. I still find it easy and kind of fun.

Good points in your sarcasm except, where are these things being seen? I can't find a demo poster or display anywhere. Now just so you don't think I am some country bumkin, I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. Big city, lots of stores, NO CoX advertisement anywhere. I happen to look at a lot of gaming magazines and websites . . . almost nothing on the websites and less in the magazines for CoX.

Thats one more.................. For the good guys!
Well, the GameStop promotion might actually be able to draw some new players in if GameStop did something with it besides just having it exist.
C'mon, there's not room for a simple poster or something?

Chief Wiggum: Did you flash your lights?
Eddie: Yes.
Chief Wiggum: Well, I'm fresh out of ideas.
That's assuming GameStop executes the preorder program successfully at all.
How bout a mini-rant? Three out of four preorders I've made for MMO titles in GameStop end the same way: they'll sell your preorder to someone else as soon as the doors open if you're not on the other side of them at 9am. It's the one thing they purportedly cite as one of the 'advantages' of buying a preorder that each of the clerks love to harp on: Launch day, you can pick up the title whenever you feel like it. (The only one that succeeded was my Aion Collector's Ed., which is still available in most stores... I've quit playing, but I think the Soundtrack CD was worth the money... the music alone for that game is awesome.)
When you learn the game you've preordered was sold 'on accident', the fix involves them rolling their eyes at you as they call five or six other stores until you get the hint that none of them have it (also assuming that the associate who sold it to you knew that the store was getting them at all... when the manager who's not there that day knows that they're actually preselling the game at another location), or telling you that they'll hold a copy for sure when the next shipment comes in... three weeks later. Either fix usually has the same result for them: you ask for a refund and leave.
And that assumes that you've been polite at all in the exchange. If you show any sort of attitude or disgust, some snark-filled manager takes over who feels some evangelistical preference towards console gaming and proceeds to tell you that there's nothing that anyone can do. Then they try to wheel and deal you into spending your preorder cash on another product then proceed to educate you to forget MMO's and spend your cash on the product that everyone else is buying up like T-Shirts at a backyard wrestling match, like a new FPS release, or the latest Wii or Harmonix oddity.
But if you manage to crack their veneer of manic-depression and persist through all of their levels of employment, and I managed to pull this off myself once... you might just witness a manager's face glow bright red, rip up your preorder receipt and go Gandalf on you, banning you from their store in a cinematic fashion that makes Julie Taymor's 'combat' scenes in Across The Universe seem more rational and subtle.
I don't know why companies still prefer to make deals with GameStop with such inconsistent execution, I feel they would save money on marketing if they keep deals in-house when possible (NCSoft Store Online), especially if GameStop has no idea the preorder is happening (I checked my local store just for laughs. They have no idea about Going Rogue where I live, other than Sarah Palin jokes, then the manager remembered my face from before as I left and had Security stop and escort me out of the mall... just sad).
Otherwise, I'd much rather preorder at Best Buy. Don't get me wrong, they're no better at holding on to copies than GameStop is, but they don't pretend to care more than they actually do: you're refunded usually within minutes, sans contempt or apology.
Finally got off work and got to watch this.
Nice. I think if I was "new", this would get me at least a little interested. Who is the blue guy with the faux-hawk? He seems to get a lot of play in these vids. Is he a dev?
And, really Matt? Vij-i-LAHN-tay????

I have no idea if your trying to be sarcastic in your quote about the timing or not, but I am going to assume you are and thank you for the back-up.

While I think these ViDoc's are great for new players and so are things like the gamestop promotion the doubt I'm having isn't arising from those marketing materials it is arising from the question of how any potential new players are being exposed to these marketing materials.
For the most part it really seems like if you don't already know about CoX then nothing that is happening is going to change that. And if you already know about CoX and have passed on it for the last 6 years, is GR really going to change anything for you?
I think it will do very well in bringing some old subs back, but I'm awful worried about retention. The focus being on 1-20 means that people (even slow people) will move through it in like 7 days. Fast people will be through it that day. There is also the issue that 1-20 is oft considered a chore or PITA by many of the players because your powers are so underdeveloped and endurance is a major constrictor. Is 1-20 content going to hold those people until the next issue where the incarnate system is actually released? I know it will hold many of us. A lot of people playing this game right now will be here until it closes its doors.
Existing players that are already involved in the game get the nifty Fable-esque morality system and that's great for taking toons to the existing old content that we've had access to for years, but just not on some particular toons. However, I doubt that will have much impact on the subs that have left the game. That's not really new, or different for them, just more of the same, but with a different toon, which with our existing AT's you could already do with numerous different combinations. Is doing it all again with a brute really going to turn the tide? maybe. hopefully.
I don't mean to sound overly negative, but these are questions I've been asking myself as more and more info is released. I'm not doubting the ability of GR to pull in new players as I think it could do fine. I'm doubting the execution of a plan to put GR in a position to succeed in that goal, but thankfully there is still some time left to improve.
Noble Savage looks awesome

Really, could it be made any more asymmetrically and show off what we can't do in the CC?

Could be battling an NPC in an outdoor instance mission.
Speeding Through New DA Repeatables || Spreadsheet o' Enhancements || Zombie Skins: better skins for these forums || Guide to Guides
Could be some kind of Clock boss we haven't seen that Mr. Blue's fighting there.

I really wish positron would stop saying vigilanTAY. It bothers me.
Main Entry: vig·i·lan·te
Pronunciation: \ˌvi-jə-ˈlan-tē\
Pronounciation differs everywhere though, regardless of what's official. The way Posi says it just sounds obscure to me, probably because I'm english. I tend to pronounce it Vij-ih-lahnt-ee. Saying that, I do pronounce 'Lord Recluse' as 'Lord Wreck-lose', even though I pronounce the word Recluse as normal. I also said 'Kime-roar-ah' until I heard War Witch say 'Simmer-or-ah' on a recording of some panel thing.
