Market Merging
This can't end well...
... for some people.
Which people? The French?
Nothing ever works out for them.
So do you all think this will cause prices in the Market to go up or down when they merge?
I don't see prices dropping on any of the good stuff with this merge. All the scenarios I can think of see prices rising.
I thought I felt a million purist RP'ers cry out and were suddenly silen..., wait, no they are still going. Apologies to Shinga.
Don't see it having a huge affect on prices in the long run, but availability should be better. Wiping price histories will probably have a bigger affect.

Yeah. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of screaming and sobbing, and the amount of positive.
I am thrilled that the market merge will finally take place. Hopefully, this means more people will play redside than did before.
How many people are going to start a thread on this?
This makes things much cleaner and simpler for all concerned.
Except for altaholics who can't handle their RP.

Re: prices, the history wipe (and cancellation of any bids and sales) will take care of some of the initial pricing confusion because it's kind of like adding a whole bunch of new items to the market (purples in I11, new sets in I13, PvP IOs in I14), except in this case people will have some idea as to what those items were worth before the price wipe. However, people redside might not put the same value on an enhancement as a blueside player would, so prices will probably reach an equilibrium somewhere in between - i.e. heroes will pay more than they do now, and villains will pay less. However, with only one pool of supply and one pool of demand (as opposed to two of each) the market may well be more stable which means less price fluctuation. (For those of you that dislike flippers or market manipulators, this should make you happy-ish because it means those sorts of things will be slightly harder to do.)
My only concern right now is what I'm going to have to do with my "inf holding" bids on nonexistent items.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."

i think generally all prices will be lower since theres going to be a bigger pool of items. all this forum speculation is definitely fun to read through.
So Wentworths is the Black Market.
I'm pretty sure this happened before in Dues Ex
I've become one with the Cake!
I mostly expect to see people that were complaining the red market sucks to complain the new merged market sucks.
My first instinct was that this ruins my RP.
After careful consideration, though, I think I managed to come up with a plausible explanation that my characters (or at least the avatars of my 4 archetypal proto-logisms (invented word referring to incarnated facets of a recurring power ) that correspond to manifestations of the different stages of the lifecycle that [@Gerswin] created) can live with.
What if the hero universe, the 'city' if you will, is merely an allegory for the bright side of an entity's consciousness, while the villain universe, the 'wilderness' , is an allegory for the dark side. This entity, while very powerful, is very troubled, and each successive 'Issue' released by NCSOFT is symbolic of the stages of psychotherapy that this entity is experiencing, with the ultimate climax being the reconciliation of dark and light, good and evil, yin and yang, as merely different faces of the same coin, at which point the 'game' as we know it will cease to exist. This model suggests that the merging of the markets is just one more step in the master plan.
I clearly need to think this through more thoroughly, perhaps I will meditate on it while leeching the hami raid.

I mean seriously, how hard is it to figure out how a black market can thrive by using a legitimate market as the source for it's goods when that's more or less how it happens in the real world. Heck, it's WORSE than that in the real world: good sold in the US manufactured via de-facto slave labor, for instance. Where's your "RP" then?
And the whole concept that you need an RP justification for purchasing something with no in-game physicality using a meta-game currency that also has no physicality is kinda ridiculous. I mean "I purchased a Respite today"? Come on! It's an "Inspiration", it's a completely meta resource. "I spend Influence"? Do you imagine influence are little slips of paper with a picture of statesman on them or something? Like Phalanx-Bux? The entire economy is already so very meta and fourth-wall breaking, that I can't see how a market merger would make the issue any worse.
I think you're over thinking his over thinking and missed the joke.
Joke? What joke?
