Need help with a costume Young boy look

The above thread in the Screenshots & Fan Creations section of the boards is used for costume help, if you repost your request there you'll get help from some of the most creative costume designers in the game. If they can't come up with anything, no one can. ^_^
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
If I was at home I could send you pics of some costumes I have saved, but they aren't on this computer.
I think the secret is to use either the baggy top or a jacket or vest - something that hides the muscular definition of the tights options. The smooth tights option isn't bad, but even that is more muscular than a normal 10 y.o. kid would be.
I have one costume saved at home called Sheriff Tommy that I was going to use for a dual pistols character. I think it captures the look of a kid dressed as a cowboy pretty well, but I never used it because I just couldn't see myself playing a 10 y.o. kid. A woman? Yes. A werewolf cop? Sure. An indestructible, demonically posessed robot? No problem. Just not a 10 y.o. kid.
(Sometimes, I wish there could be a Dev thumbs up button for quality posts, because you pretty much nailed it.) -- Ghost Falcon
I hear ya mousedroid, I never did myself to be honest. But I thought it would be just something to try.
Thanks for the link Organica loading it in the next tab as I reply back..

Tips:
Children's heads are much larger in proportion to their bodies than teens or adults. Max the head size sliders (the top ones) out (I forget if the following overrides that or not). Then go to "Shape" under head and choose..."Youthful", IIRC. This will adjust all your head sliders to a more childlike configuration. Adjust for personal preference from there. It doesn't QUITE get you child proportions, but that's as close as it can get. Use one of the child faces, of course.
Body sliders all at minimum, except waist at maximum. If you have a jacket, you may have to adjust waist down. I have no idea why waist at max gives jackets umbrella like bulges.
Smooth tights have been mentioned as a work-around, but yes, covering up "muscular" areas works better. Most of my "children" wear the tights, but I just accept that it's game limited, myself, and hand-wave how bulgy they are.

Okay, I can never get screen caps so I'll just break it all down and tell you what I did at the tailor to make a young boy look.
Size scales.
Male body type
Everything at minimum, except waist at default middle.
Head: Standard
Shape: Youthful
Face: Any of the five Youthful, tho I liked Youthful 1, but pick what you like
Hair: Gusto is my pref, as it's fairly youthful looking. For color, I went with a light blond.
Ears/Detail 1&2 I left at default/None
Upper Body
Chest: Bare Chest Smooth
Chest Sub: Tee. Color it black so the male nipples don't show through.
Shoulders: None
Chest Detail: Pick a chest emblem that looks like it would be a design you could pick up from a store. I like the Dragon, but pick whatever you like, the color it accordingly
Gloves: Bare/Smooth. Sub Gloves: Bare Sub Gloves 2: None
Belt: Standard. Sub Belt: Simple Leather.
Lower Body:Tucked in
Pants: Either Cargo, or Pants, and color blue to make them look like Jean shorts.
Now with boots you have a couple options.
1: Boots: Flat >Bare feet >None
2: Boots: Sneakers(I personally don't like the knee high socks you get with this option, but it's your choice.)
3: Boots: Kung Fu(Again, not to my liking, because they look like slippers, rather then sneakers that a kid would be wearing.)
Here's a saved file of the costume, so you can load it up in game and take a look, if that's easier for you. http://www.humblegenius.com/~forcing...idlook.costume
Maniac_Raid goes here: Chest: Bare Chest Smooth Chest Sub: Tee. Color it black so the male nipples don't show through. |
I ended up going to Tights Smooth with a contrasting T-shirt overlay and it looked a LOT better. Plus it's very "in fashion" for kids to be layering a t-shirt over a long sleeved shirt.
But, as always, it all comes down to what you want it to look like.

This may be a sticking point one may have to choose to one's preference. When I made my Virtual Lad, that's exactly what I used (in red, not black) and several of my SG-mates "jumped down my throat" (in a friendly way, of course) that he was still too muscular.

As for still looking too muscular, could be. It might look more defined in the higher graphics settings, but as always YMMV.
Looks passable, but yeah, that boy's been doing a lot of forearm exercises.
On screenies from the log in or the costume editor or anywhere not "in the game", you still hit "print screen", but then you have to open a graphics editor like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, GIMP or (last resorts) Paint or the word processor from Microsoft and paste it in.
EDIT: Oh, and some visual aids...

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
Thanks! He's a fun character. He's only 12, a Sonic/Ice blaster and is MA only. I'm taking him to 50 there (the REGULAR way, no PL or farming). His mom won't let him fight REAL criminals! That's dangerous! If someone shoots at him as he runs to WW, he has to run away, and isn't allowed to set foot in any of the old hazard zones.
Plus, she makes him drag along this rickety old Clockwork babysitter called H.A.R.O.L.D. (Human Adolescent Restriction Of Liberties Device). I made a self-imposed restriction that spawning H.A.R.O.L.D. (the non-combat Veteran Reward Clockwork pet, of course) has to be the first thing VL does after any zoning.
"Donnie Gallagher was THRILLED when Dr. Aeon opened Architect Entertainment! So every day after school he dons the special virtual reality equipment he just got for his 12th birthday and pretends to live the life of a super-hero!"
Too much? It's possibly not a good idea getting me talking about my characters. I tend to run off at the keyboard. I'm such a "proud papa".

That's OK. I have a wolf boy who was featured regularly in a supermarket tabloid and on TV believe it or not series. He's a jaded teen looking to get back the stardom he had when he was younger. Sonic/Electric Defender, static charge from his fir is collected and discharged through his gauntlets. Problem is he's currently at the level where bosses simply kick his backside since his primary doesn't help him directly all that much. The updated Defender intrinsic helps a bit.

I have been trying to make a a concept build.
Demon Summoning with only the last big pet and Traps. Basically normal looking boy that is smart and has a pet demon which helps him out. I am looking to make one costume where he is a geeky innocent looking boy and then changes into another more sinister looking boy with a demon by his side. Sadly I cannot get a young boy look down in the character creator to my liking. I think the issue might be the cloths option. It was easy to do the school girl look with female, which begrudgingly I might turn to if I can't get the young boy look down. Anyone willing to share some ideas or pics they might have done in this vein. I read through several of the character builder player guides, but nothing falls into this category beyond the simple school girl look. Thanks in advance |

Hey thanks Decorum, Maniac_Raid and the rest of course.
I created the toon but as a young man atm just to get him rolling.. Trying to think of a name as well. Johnny Rotten, Sinister Sid.. I have about 20 free tailor sessions and will end up paying for the name change.. Just wish they had more to work with costume wise.

I would steer away from using names that could get you generic'ed (Johnny Rotten is a real person, subject to generic if you get reported).

I don't know if I'd describe John Lydon as a "real person". He's pretty much been a cartoon his whole life.

Many normal names are hard to come by now these days anyways.

I've been playing around with a look. Sadly I think we need more options. My original look was similar to what was instructed here. I think the problem is the face. When you can mask the face a bit, you get the impression of a boy in a super hero costume. Where as my look was just a regular kid. I went with a sweater vest and a bow tie with young face 5 and youthful look.
I even tried a kid with boxing pants and a T shirt no muscles and sneakers as if he was in gym cloths.
I do have a Hero costume with a younger look. But again after inspecting him and wondering whats the difference. I really think its the face and stance.
Further something about the size does not seem right. I created a few test toons and stood them next to other npcs. Using the contacts in the Villain start area ( the jail ) and he looked less of a kid but instead looking like a shrunk small person, not a midget, but a mini person. A young mini person.
The size settings seem to be off compared to what I expected 4 feet to be. 4 feet is up to the waist of the first contact in villain jail. That guy has to be over 8 feet tall if it where correct. But it seems everyone is 8 feet tall including the nurse in that jail.
going keep trying a bit more. Hopefully the new expansion will add some new looks that might help out or what not. Or might have to go female

Most of the NPCs actually show as pretty huge compared to the player character scale. No idea why they decided to go that way. Decorum is 6' 5" and he's often shorter than NPCs (even the civilians just walking the street).
